The Columbia Restaurant in Sand Key Clearwater has pretty water views of the inter-coastal and…read morefeatures a vintage interior style blending old-world Spanish charm with relaxed coastal energy. You can watch boats cruise by while you eat. The best spots are on the open outdoor deck or at a table next to the large windows. Inside, the dining room is decorated in a Mediterranean style. It features colorful Spanish tiles, lush tropical plants, and authentic artwork. The famous historic 1905 salad originally created in 1905 was made table side by Tossing 4 cups of chopped iceberg lettuce, 1/2 cup julienned ham, 1/2 cup julienned Swiss cheese, 1 ripe chopped tomato, and 1/2 cup green Spanish olives. Top with Romano cheese, Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice, and a tangy garlic dressing. The flavor is great and it's a nice light healthy option. 9/10 The Ropa Vieja was Originally introduced to Cuba by Spanish sailors. The name means "old clothes" because the choice beef is shredded, sautéed and simmered with onions, green peppers and tomatoes. Served with platanos and white rice. 9/10 The Shrimp Salteado came with Jumbo shrimp sautéed in exra-virgin olive oil, sliced Spanish onions, green peppers, fresh garlic, mushrooms, diced potatoes, chorizo and red wine. Served with yellow rice. 9/10 For dessert, the flan is one of the best I have ever tasted. The recipe dates to 1935 when the Columbia opened Tampa's first "Conditioned Air" dining room, the Don Quixote. Our grandmother and great-grand-mother, Carmen Hernandez, helped the Columbia gain national fame with her great recipes, especially her flan. Spanish caramel egg custard, prepared the old-fashioned way, using only the best natural ingredients. 9/10 Our server was friendly and informative and our food came out in a timely manner. If you're in the Sand Key or Clearwater area and craving some authentic Cuban food in a classy atmosphere with a nice view of the water, i highly l recommend visiting the Columbia Restaurant.

I also love that their outdoor deck dining area on the water is dog friendly. I have always been treated with exceptional and friendly service, and the restaurant is so beautiful no matter where you sit. This time I sat in the bar area with an amazing view of the bay, even though it was a rainy day. I love to bring out of town guests here, and have celebrated lots of special occasions at the Columbia. There has also been many times when I have really just craved their 1905 salad, Red Sangria and warm Cuban bread and butter, so I pop in for a quick visit. It is so addicting!!! On this visit with my daughter, we enjoyed a pitcher of table side red Sangria, a 1905 salad also made table side, warm Cuban bread and butter, Champiñones Rellenos, and Pollo Manchego. We ended this fabulous feast with Café Con Leche and a Flan to share. I will be back again soon.

Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. Our server Veness was also amazing! She was super sweet, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. I love love Latin Cuban Mexican food. I'm from Miami. Columbia was…read moreOne of my favorites. This food experience was a horrible experience compared to what it used to be. It's like they don't even have a chef or a plan or a recipe. The wine glasses have an odor like the dishwasher isn't doing its job. Water stains on the glasses & silverware. No attention to detail. The famous 1905 salad - soggy lettuce and some kind of bottled dressing rather than fresh. My daughter ordered the Paella Marinera ( Seafood lovers Feast) $48 entree with only the shrimp lobster & scallops - UGH! A Huge pile of ugly gross looking GRAY something like risotto - she couldn't eat it and the lobster was gray also. My black beans were thick and just like they came out of a can with no preparation or seasoning at all. My husband ordered the Red Snapper Adelita a $42 entree - instead of being grilled it was battered & fried. The Sangria had a taste of something chemical I can't figure out what it was. Drinkable but definitely not the wonderful fresh fruity brandy feel that it should be - and definitely not enjoyable. I'm sorry to have to say these things - but I don't want your special event to be disappointing like ours was. All I can say is if you loved the old Columbia - DON'T Go here expecting that experience.

There is a happy hour menu, which does give you greatly reduced prices on food and drink. I ordered a lavender margarita, which was good, but I couldn't really taste the lavender. We also ordered the ham croquettes, which were excellent. The bartenders were quick and efficient. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. Nice size bar, various size tables everywhere, plus outside seating and a rooftop area. Once we were seated at our table, our server was quick to come and take our drink order. Since it was our first time, he explained the menu. We started with 3 items. Meatballs, chicken skewers and chorizo cheese dip. I loved that they didn't all come at the same time. There were 3 meatballs served with 4 pieces of baguette. They were tasty and the sauce was great. The chicken skewers were super tender, but if all the items we ate, they were my least favorite. The chorizo cheese dip was yummy goodness and came to a close first place with the ham croquettes as my favorite. For the next round we ordered the potatoes that were served in a spicy sauce and the brisket served on baguette. They were both excellent. 6 tapas for the two of us was perfect and I was more than full. There were a lot of large groups, so it was very loud, but it didn't interfere with our dining experience. I will definitely return.

The cocktails are still good, and they have a great meat and cheese selection. The garlic shrimp is also always a solid choice. I do think the menu could use a refresh, but overall it's still a longtime SoHo staple and a reliable spot for tapas, drinks, and sharing a few plates.
