Charleston is a bit of a food desert if you ask me so this was a bright spot. Middle eastern fast food. You do need to get over the rundown neighborhood and shabby interior but the food is great! We had a mixed family platter with lamb and chicken and the meat was spot on with decent sides. While on a business trip in Charleston, WV I stumbled upon this place and decided to give them a try. I got there around 6 PM and the place was mostly empty with a few people getting takeout. The place does not have great ambience which I am ok with as long as the food is excellent. I ordered King combo which is a Kefta kabab (Beef and Lamb) and Chicken kabab platter. I also ordered Tabbouleh salad with it. They gave a Yogurt sauce with the platter and offered me garlic mayo sauce and Tahini sauce in addition. The food was full of flavor and the kababs were melting in my mouth. I have dined at Middle Eastern / Mediterranean places in Houston, DMV area, and other big cities and the food here is definitely one of the best I have had for Middle Eastern cuisine. Just two days later, I got myself Lamb chops and Hummus. Even better!! Lamb chops were succulent and perfectly grilled. The lamb shawarma is the best in town (and yes, there are at least two others, this one is better, and cheaper). The falafel is awesome as well. The tabouli is excellent, and second best in town. I'll gladly keep the cafeteria style, basic dining experience if the food remains this exceptional and well priced. In other words, it isn't broke, don't ask them to fix it. I so looked forward to this visit. It had 5 star reviews, so my expectations were high. The dining area was clean and spacious, but otherwise unremarkable. We were welcomed and felt the customer service was good. We ordered the lamb chops, what I thought looked like a gyro on the menu, but came out as a thin wrap, chicken and steak platter and greek salad. The lamb chops were seasoned and tasty, but thinly cut and small. The wrap was a very small portion and had no other sides. The chicken and steak had okay portions, but a little over cooked. The rice had a good taste but small portion with the platters. There was a bread served, but it was not typical pita, it was very thin and flat, which would be ok but it was not tasty. The greek salad was mostly tomatoes and cheese (little lettuce or anything else.) Overall, I think the portions are smaller than the prices warrant. I guess I compared it to other restaurants I have been to with similar food offerings. It is customary to get Shirazi served on the side, here the portion was so small and it was mostly tomatoes, no herbs hardly to note. The portion was like a sample not really a side. I would suggest a larger side be served. Also, if patrons dine in you could serve pita bread and hummus. It just depends if the owner wants this experienc to be that of a restaurant or a carry out.
