Let me start by saying I have been a patient of Dr. Varveris for at least 10 years and while she has been a good doctor to me (when I can get in to see her), I am super disappointed with this practice. I recently scheduled to have a physical because I haven't been seen by Dr. Varveris for a long time. When I showed up for my appointment whoever scheduled it when I had called, had scheduled it for the wrong person with a similar name. I saw the doctor, she examined me, we discussed my chronic hypothyroidism and celiac disease and some itching I was having in my ears. She wrote for labs, refilled my prescriptions and that was that. When my insurance was billed, my appt was billed as a sick visit (which cost me more as a physical is covered at 100%). I called billing and was told since we discussed my chronic health issues it's not a physical and that they have a patient form that states that ( which I was not offered, nor ever saw) which is absurd. I then called the office manager and expressed my concerns that I wasn't informed by the doctor or staff that discussing any other issues changed my appt from a physical to an office visit. The office manager said a physical is just a physical and you can't discuss anything else with the doctor or it's not a physical. I questioned how can it be a physical if you can't discuss your chronic, known health issues, and if it is the case then as a patient I should be informed of that prior to the service being provided as I would've chosen not to discuss those matters with the doctor at that time. Which she basically told me that she couldn't believe that I would see the doctor and not discuss my health, and treated me like I was an idiot. The bottom line is this, You schedule for a physical, they change it to an office visit without informing you and then somehow my physical that is covered at 100% now costs me $120 and that's my fault according to their office manager. Not to mention I can never get in to see Dr. Varveris when I'm actually sick!
