King Cotton fabric store is located in the old Green Springs Baptist Church, circa 1905. King Cotton was a buzz this morning with fabric shoppers. Bring your patience as there were only two ladies working this small store. Thank you Carolyn for pointing out the discontinued low priced fabrics that I would find in their next door warehouse and the discounted remnants in the basement. You'll find a plethora of hanging fabric samples organized by color and/or manufacturer. They seem competitively priced with online fabric stores, but here you get to see the fabric up close, and touch and feel. If it's in stock you eliminate shipping cost. Today, I was fortunate to find a fabric I had been contemplating ordering. They had it in stock at a competitive price. I purchased several yards, and I avoided shipping expense! Score! read more

Really nice fabric store. I was looking online first since it's hard to get there on a weekday during work. I'm glad I went in store because they allow you to take larger home samples to try out for free (be sure to return them or by the looks of my paper work they'll charger you 30k) Online stores do not touch the quality available here. Also I'm really cheap and love a discount and I'd say to value to cost ratio is worth it. I even tried to google lens the fabric I wanted to no avail, so they really have a unique selection.only wish they were open at least one day on the weekend. An overwhelmingly large selection of high quality fabrics within a reasonable price range. Most are around 28 dollars to 60. Some are higher. The staff though? I wondered if they all had ADD because it was difficult to get anyone's attention.One sales person walked away from me to take a personal phone call while she was showing me fringe that you had to look for within all these books, each from a different manufacturer and most located on a shelf under a table. I didn't know where to start without guidance. So - its totally worth it if you have time to navigate the store on your own or if you are good at buttonholing sales clerks. O read more

Wow! I was unprepared and overwhelmed by the WIDE range of choices in upholstery, drapery, and clothing fabrics. We looked at hundreds of fabric samples in hundreds of books and displays. Plus, with somebody color-challenged like me, many were displayed by color group. Hurrahs from us color-blind people! Prices are quite reasonable, and the staff are cordial and helpful in whatever you're looking for. This is my go-to place for home decor fabrics from now on. read more

These guys mean business! This place works hard at supplying a higher quality product, great selection of nice current designs, and are very professional. It is known throughout the South to be the best place around to buy quality in stock fabrics and supplies, never looking cheap or inexpensive. The staff leaves you alone, never trying to 'make a sell' or be overly friendly while you are trying to make selections from their massive inventory. I appreciate this so much, the last thing I want is to feel like I need to satisfy one more person in the purchasing and selecting process. The fabrics are beautiful (but overpriced). Unfortunately, the customer service is severely lacking, bordering on rude. I was shocked at the way that I was treated when I walked in the store. I was not greeted, just stared at, which made me feel unwelcome. Also, the employees here are not accommodating in the least, which makes doing business with them difficult. These people are rude. I've been there several times, and not once has anyone ever asked to help me, nor have they said "hello." It is a great place to go look at the swavelle mill fabric and then go on-line and purchase it. You'll do better going on-line, the prices are much better. If you ask a question about a swavelle mill fabric, they usually don't even know the other colors that it comes in. I would never buy a thing from these people, unless it was such a bargain that I couldn't pass it up. read more

The employees are rude and snooty. They never offer any assistance and they look at you like "What are you doing in our store?" It really is a shame, because they have a great selection of some really lovely fabrics. I found the fabric I wanted, took a picture and then went home to order it online. read more

They are always so busy here, but I have never found them to be rude. I have bought from them since they opened and have always gotten wonderful deals! I had checked out sample this week . I injured my back and could not return them in time. The lady on the telephone was so kind and assured me I would not be charged.Rarely do I find sales people to be so accommodating and thoughtful. read more

I have recovered multiple pieces of furniture this past year using fabrics purchased at King Cotton in Birmingham, and I have had a great experience overall and highly recommend this fabric store. I have come in and browsed their huge, up-to-date selection for hours with no one hovering over me, which I like, so that I can match and compare fabrics myself. And when I have needed advice, I have been assisted by an in-house interior designer. I had pillows made using an independent contractor King Cotton referred me to, and she was a very sweet and talented person, was reasonably priced, and did a great job! I really enjoy going into the store; but when that was not possible during my fabric overhaul project this year, I ordered swatches online and received those in a few days and got a personal call from the owner. Also, there are great deals on remnants downstairs at the Birmingham store, and sometimes you can purchase their display drapes and pillows for a good price. This store has the worst customer service of any place I have ever been. The first time I went into the store to browse no one ever greeted me or asked if I needed any help. My presence was never even acknowledged. On another occasion I got to the store around 4:20 (their advertised hours are until 4:30 and I even called to confirm them) and all the lights were off and the door was already locked. I knocked on the door and 3 employees looked right at me and turned back around like I wasn't there. When I knocked again one woman finally came to the door and rudely asked what I needed. I explained I simply needed 1 yd of a specific fabric to take to my mother who lives out of town. She told me they could not help me (even though the store was technically still open according to their advertised hours) and while I was mid sentence she slammed the door in my face and locked it. I think I would prefer to go somewhere where the employees are courteous and have respect for others. I will not be shopping at King Cotton and would advise others to avoid it as well. read more
