They had everything from cakes, pies, cookies, and cinnamon rolls to candy, stationery, and other fun little finds throughout the shop. I ended up trying the Oreo, Old-Fashioned, Lemon Velvet, and Biscoff cakes. Everything was delicious, and I'm already planning my next visit because I need to try the cinnamon rolls and go back for more of the treats I didn't get the first time. I ordered the white wine poundcake, banana pudding cake, and the red velvet cube. When I tell you that the poundcake was moist-whew it increased the humidity in the room!! From the look of it, it's unassuming like an ordinary Grandma's poundcake. This is rival's your Me-maw's poundcake. It also had the perfect buttery crispy edge at the bottom. Those who no poundcake know what I'm referring to. Now my favorite, the red velvet cube, is in a darling reusable container. The favor and moistness had my licking my spork a toddler. I also had the banana pudding cake -- don't judge me, or label me a glutton-- I was eating all of this for research purposes lol. I really enjoyed the banana pudding cake as well because it did not have bananas in it. That unique order option is what sealed the deal for me. But, I do need to advise anyone who is unwaveringly accustomed to the Italian and Portuguese bakeries of New England (at least in the 1980s), and similar places, the pastries here aren't quite at that level. The pastries I tried were a little dense and shriveled, with a slight sour taste (which could've also been due to some uneven baking, erring on the overbaked side). In an apple filled item, the small amount of apples weren't quite soft and sweet enough, as well. Overall, the pastries were nearer to those of a very talented home baker than the polished work of a traditional professional pastry shop. Of course, for this specific region, this will be an enjoyable stop. With that in mind, I'm not surprised there are long lines; it must be very exciting to encounter a shop like this for the first time. There are very few other bakeries making pastries of this type, much less good ones. It's very, very hard to make excellent pastries. But, if you come from a land rich with bakeries, just set your expectations appropriately. Plus, there is the critical difference between New England and North Carolina bakeries: Would you rather have pastries that are sensational from sullen and unpredictably snappish people? ...or pastries that are decent and charming from laid-back and friendly people?
