So happy I found Kinder Swimmer. My daughter had been in swim since she was a young toddler at the ymca and by the age of 7 was still not truly getting instruction on how to swim. We have 2 daughters (ages 3 & 4 years), and they absolutely LOVE their swim lessons with Kyleigh & Zeza at the Spanaway pool!! I think my younger one was actually afraid of the water before we started taking them for lessons back in September. Now they both get SO excited to "go to swimming". I really appreciate how Kyleigh makes their lessons fun but still challenges them to try something more. My girls seemed to click with both Kyleigh & Zeza from day one. Also, my 4 year old has sensory processing disorder and I've seen such a huge improvement in her over these last several months too -- following directions, gross motor movement/ coordination. I really enjoy taking my son here. My son is 2 years old and I really appreciate that it's actually a swimming learning class and not just playing around. My son is also extremely attached to me so I truly appreciate Zeza trying to making it comfortable for him in order for him to gain trust with her. What a wonderful swim instructor Ms Lindy is. I'm so happy with the location. It's a nice facility in a private home. The swimming pool area is very well set up. The class has very good teachers to students ratio. They are very generous in giving the first lesson free, and reasonable prices for class. Another money making pool. Worst customer service experience,no empathy at all just make money even though you are a loyal customers for years. Do not think about people and business relationship at all. My son is going to Renton pool for more than 2 years and when i called ahead of time to make adjustments to one of the classes he is going to miss for a make up they simply refused and threatened that i will loose my spot is if drop him as a last option. 26$/class are you kidding me we are paying such a high fee that for all such poor experience? read more

We were told we would like the class but I had no idea how much. My 7 year old went for the first time today and we couldn't me more happy. I thought her first lesson would be her learning to get in and out of the pool or maybe learning to put her face in the water a bit but nope. The very first class she was diving, jumping off diving boards, sliding down fun slides and swimming across the pool with assistance. The way they have it set up your child has automatic confidence with the floating devices they have. They are so supportive and light that my daughter had no fear swimming around in the pool during free/play time. The whole car ride home she was telling me that she couldn't wait to go back. From the staff to the parents everyone is friendly and welcoming. I am so excited I found this place. We look forward to many more lessons to come. My little girl took her first swimming classes their last summer when she was 5 years old and I'll go the swimming instructor changed twice during that time and they had different methods, my little one definitely learned some basic swimming skills and I'm going to sign up again for this summer hoping she can take some bigger steps towards her progress. Wonderful lady that I would always talk to you to set up appointment or change any I needed to. Very personable and instructors we're nice, always paying attention to every child in the pool and we're patient and always alert. Kinder Swimmer has been amazing! My daughter has gone from bouncing around touching the bottom of the pool to actually swimming across the pool with a light float belt. It's not graceful by any means, but she can do it! It's only been a month. Miss Sierra is fantastic with her. She's very patient when my daughter chickens out about jumping/diving in and she helps her work through it. My child was going three days a week to begin with. He had two different teachers during that time. He really connected with one of the teachers and we quickly went to only her classes. She really pushed him when needed and he has now learned to swim without floats... However, my son is very sensitive to new faces and they often had substitutes and people shadowing the teacher. This caused my son to clam up and not participate for half of the 30 minute class. Which was frustrating. Then the last month that my son was going to swim his teacher without any advance notice decided to switch schedules and is no longer available when he is out of school. Had we known that he would have three different teachers his last three classes we wouldn't have done the last month. As it was there was no apology or compensation for the inconvenience or lack of communication. read more

"Meh" sums up Kinder Swimmer perfectly in my book. I think that its a great place to introduce your toddler to the water and ease general fears of the water. But as far as actually teaching children to be independent swimmers, they really fall short. Especially in Washington its one of the only ways to keep your kids swimming regularly through the winter, but I think that the program seriously lacks in the ability to teach kids to grow into independent swimmers. read more

Love kinderswimmer in Spanaway! My son was freaked out about getting his face wet initally. We planned a vacation to mexico and really wanted him to be more confident in the water and to be able to relax and have fun. After 2 visits he was telling me how he even opened his eyes UNDER the water! After 6 visits he is cruising all over the pool and loves to jump in. He asks all week "when are we going to swimming lessons?" Their technique is great and the instructor definitely knows what she is doing. read more

I suppose their facility is good enough, it was the instructor I had a hard time with. My very shy, toddler aged daughter was never greeted or even acknowledged by the instructor, yet she was expected just to jump into a stranger's arms. At one point the instructor actually tried to grab my daughter out of my arms, which didn't go over well at all. My daughter was so shaken up that we never went back. We did, however, lose out on the registration fee and part of the tuition even though my daughter never even got in the pool. read more

I've had a really good experience doing the classes with my baby. Started right at 3 months. He loves it. And it's a great bonding experience with mom and dad. NO NO and again NO! I enrolled my 4 year and 2 year old into this school because it was really close to our house. Every time we went there was a different instructor and no prior knowledge of what had been gone over with my kids in their previous classes. One instructor had said it was ok for me to get into the water with my 2 year old because it would help him feel more comfortable and acclimated to the environment. Next session different instructor, was ok with me getting in the water. Next session new instructor again, and was irritated at the fact that I was allowed to get in with my two year old who yes, is a mommas boy but this is WATER! She had my son try to "swim" to me who was literally screaming and not kicking or anything, she LET GO OF MY SON and I saw him go under and take in water and I reached out to comfort him and she took him away from me! I decided right then this wasn't the place for my two year old and pulled him from the classes. Next issue, my 4 year old has some sensory issues with water by his ears and is mortified of going under water. We've had instructors that were caring and tended to his sensitives and modified exercises to where he was still participating and didn't have any fear. Today, the instructor full on dunked my son under water while his mouth was open and he didn't even hold his breath. My son was screaming when he came up and I got him to calm down while also trying to make sure he didn't take in any water. Then it came time for jumping into the water (oh and did I mention a 2 year fell off the side of the pool and the instructor didn't even notice while another parent ran and picked her up out of the water). I told her my son isn't comfortable going under ( considering this is like his 4th session ) and that he wanted to jump without going under and she got mad that other instructors had been letting us do this because obviously going under is part of swimming and that "she's a lifeguard" so I just said "you know what we're just going to leave" my son was having a full on anxiety attack. These instructors don't have any knowledge of child psychology, and your kids will be in a class of kids all ages and different levels, and they leave your kid sitting by themselves on the side wall. The floaters they use are weights they strap on which constantly Have to be adjusted because the move and come loose. I promise you I am not exaggerating and I never write reviews but I felt this one was necessary to let others out there be aware of this place because this involves the safety of your children. There's dry drowning, and getting infections from chemicals in your lungs. Not to mention their billing is a major hassle and they NEVER answer the phone. This place is just horrible. read more

The first few weeks were ok. But I do not think the instructor we were assigned to likes my son. the instructor, Codey, held my son's head under water with two hands today, for close to ten seconds. He came up coughing and spitting out water, she told him what a great job he did, in a very loud uncomfortable way. He had already told her he didn't want her to help him stay under water, she had surprised him by holding him down. He is terrified of her, he said he was counting and praying and pushing her hands, and she wouldn't let go. It was hard to see what was going on from my vantage point, but two more times I saw her attempt to shove his head under. I called and complained, they called her, of course she denies doing anything. We have now switched instructors for the remainder of our paid sessions. She seems to be fine with the younger children, but passive aggressive with my son. No way after today would I trust her for a second with him again. read more

*called in advance to ask about style of teaching and was told that they have extensive experience working with kids uncomfortable getting their face in the water; claimed they were experienced in tailoring their instruction to the child's challenges and personality - not true of Kinder Swimmer philosophy. *our primary swim teacher worked very well with my daughter *my daughter had a lesson with a different instructor - she told the instructor she didn't want to get her eyes wet and was promised that they would try their best; she stepped off the side of the pool to have this person intentionally let her go under; trust broken; repeat. Daughter doesn't want to try the slide and instructor physically tries to force her, but gives up. Another blow to trust. *we return to original instructor and supervisor offers to observe; offers constructive suggestions, but then physically forces my daughter down the slide while talking about rebuilding her trust *over $100 in and we're 2 steps forward and 5 steps back with ground to be made up on my dime and my time. *called to cancel and got a holier-than-thou lecture from the supervisor - it's my fault; there is no other technique of teaching than their 'aggressive' style (had they been honest on my first call about this, I would have never gone to them) My daughter has been taught that she is a person who has a voice and that she had a right to have that voice heard. In spite of her age, she has a right to be treated with dignity and respect as all human beings do. She has been taught that if something is uncomfortable for her or her body that she needs use her words. Out of 10+ lessons, she is still upset about the two that were with an aggressive instructor. Her primary concern was that the instructor didn't listen to her (not about her eyes getting in the water). I will man-handle my child out of harms way if in immediate danger, yet the supervisor condescendingly equated not being a good swimmer to being in immediate danger. Um...no that is not an immediate threat. It is NEVER ok to physically force another human being into doing ANYTHING they don't want to do EVER. If she never learns to be comfortable in the water, then she'll be smart enough to stay away from it. There can't be no ambiguity for our little girls when it comes to having their wishes respected when it comes to their bodies. My daughter LOVES to play in the water and fortunately, Kinder Swimmer hasn't destroyed that and with proper supervision and floatation devices will be perfectly safe. Hopefully, one day she can feel comfortable in a swimming lesson again and learn to swim. For me, the condescending, your just an over-reactive parent, response was rude and unacceptable. Apparently Kinder Swimmer has no respect for children or adults that disagree with their archaic methods and they won't be honest about it upfront. read more
