My three year old boy has been taking gymnastics classes here for a few months and we both love it! He's not the most athletic little boy, but his coaches have helped him become much more confident and adventurous. The coaches, Megan and Rochelle, are amazing at keeping the little kids' attention and teaching them the skills they need. We used to go to Alley Oop in Tumwater, but changed to Black Hills after moving to Lacey, and the difference is huge. The kids use the large gymnastic floor and learn so much. I can't praise this gym and it's coaches enough!

This is a great facility for gymnastics. My daughter (2 1/2 yr old), has a class here for 30 minutes a week. The coach (Amanda) is awesome and great with the kids. My daughter was engaged the whole time. This is no small feat for little kids of this age. My daughter will be returning again and again!

My daughter has been going to BHG for about a year now. She loves it! I have to say, I'm so happy with the new management!!!! Highly recommended this place. Now they have friendly staffs. I have heard many negatives about this place but it was just other businesses badmouthing each other. Like I said if you have any questions just ask the front desk :)

The owner Alisa Muller is a really nasty person. She charges every kid on team $200 a year in equipment fees and has done so for years yet they gym doesn't purchase any equipment. With around 200 gymnasts there they are brining in $40,000 a year. It makes you wonder where the money went for the equipment. Black Hills is an LLC and can do what they want just know that the fees you pay for equipment will be utilized elsewhere. Some equipment is a danger to the athletes to include a very worn floor. What the owner has done may not be illegal but it is immoral. When I inquired about the equipment fee and the lack of equipment Ms Muller kicked my 9 year old off of the boys team. She even tossed my 4 year old from pre-school. Ms. Muller is not a nice person, who does this to children over a parent's inquiry? If you have a girl check out Yelm or NASA. If you have a boy hope that Yelm gets their Boys team going or look at Metro. It all makes one wonder if Black Hills is corrupt. The front desk staff is also very rude and notably unhelpful. I must say that the boys' coaches are fantastic! If there is a reason to stay at this gym it is for the boy's team coaches who in my mind are of the best in Washington, perhaps even the country.

The helpers that come with the birthday package engage the kids in play and games the whole time. They are amazing with the kids. They played parachute games that the kids loved and then set up a bounce house. The party room is a good size. We had a lot of adults at our party and there was more than enough room. The party decor was wonderful (comes with the birthday package). We chose the super hero themed party and the helpers had already decorated the party room for us before we arrived. Come time to eat and sing, the helpers led everyone to the party room, served everyone pizza, and drinks, led the Happy Birthday song, and then passed out the cake. When the party was over, the helpers packed up our leftovers and gifts on a cart for us to easily take to our car. They also cleaned up the party room. Everyone one had a wonderful time, but you know who made out the best? ME and my grandson's parents. We didn't have to do a thing but bring drinks, pizza and cake. Everything was done for us! We highly recommend The Little Gum for birthday parties. My grandson's party had kids from 2 to 12 and they all had fun and I was able to enjoy the party and not host.

Unfortunately, that version of DEA no longer exists. Since the sale of Full Out, the program has steadily declined. Routines were criticized as boring, yet nothing was done to improve them, and results reflected that lack of effort and direction. There are also serious concerns about how the gym is being run. Coaches have reportedly gone unpaid for months, and multiple experienced staff members have been let go. Most concerning was the firing of the athletic director just three weeks before Worlds--she was one of the only consistent, reliable coaches who showed up to every practice. Meanwhile, other coaches had outside jobs that prevented them from attending practices regularly. The program itself is shrinking quickly. Last year there were 8 teams (4 prep and 4 elite). This season that number was cut in half, and since the season ended, many athletes have already left. At this rate, it's hard to see how the gym will sustain even one strong elite team moving forward. Athlete management is another issue. There are no real tryouts for positions, and athletes are placed where coaches decide, regardless of readiness or comfort level. On my daughter's team, athletes were made to fly even when they were clearly scared, which raises concerns about both safety and coaching judgment. At this point, DEA feels unstable, disorganized, and in decline. If you're looking for experienced coaching, consistency, and a program focused on athlete development and safety, this is not the place. The only thing it still offers is a sense of familiarity--but even that is fading as more families and staff continue to leave.

I love that they offer a free (trial) class from the get go as this helps families like myself determine if this is an activity my child will like or not. My daughter absolutely loved her first class. In fact, she asked me more than once about gymnastics. She woke up the next morning asking if we were going back that same day. The classes, as mentioned, is 45 minutes long. As the kids are very young, the obstacles are suited for their age. To parents, it is easy to do, but for the young ones, a bit challenging. We have since signed her up for the classes and once the full session is complete, you will be automatically charged for the next 4 week session unless you notify staff. As the Little Stars session are for littles, one parent is able to supervise on the floor.

We were trusting them with supporting our daughter and her emotional and physical development. We expected safety, truth, and respect. What we received in return was not only disappointing--it was deeply damaging. Unfortunately, our time ended with a complete breakdown of trust, accountability, and professionalism on their part. This isn't an isolated incident. Look at the reviews: * Children shamed, bullied, and humiliated--with no protection or empathy. * Parents silenced, brushed off, or retaliated against for voicing concerns. * Multiple accusations of intimidation and toxic culture. * A pattern of deleting or suppressing negative reviews to maintain an illusion of integrity. Favoritism runs rampant. Sloppy business practices at best. Lies and cover ups. A disgraceful lack of partnership with parents. Closed practices..... seems suspicious. I should have trusted my gut, and these reviews. Despite claiming a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, violence, and body-shaming, their actions suggest otherwise. The fine print at the bottom of their handbook may protect them legally--but ethically, it exposes a troubling truth: policies at Zenith West aren't meant to guide or protect; they're meant to shield leadership from accountability. To anyone considering this gym: Read the reviews they can't delete. Ask questions. Trust your instincts. This post isn't just for her.
