Kinfolks restaurant was destroyed by fire recently really sad lots of memorabilia and history was lost

This place was fine. My fiancé and I were in Calico Rock for the day, but, it was Monday, and very little was open. So, we pressed on to Mountain View. Not much was open there either. But, a storekeeper recommended this place. I got a pork BBQ platter which came with two small sides. I chose coleslaw and baked beans. You also get a small coleslaw with the sandwich. The sandwich was good. The beans were good and had a kick to them. The coleslaw was very sweet like KFC's, but, that's okay with me! We also got ice tea and you get free refills. My fiancé's lunch came with dessert, which was a peanut butter brownie. Very good. A very down to earth place. read more

First time ever coming here. We've passed by this restaurant many many times on our way to listen to the folk music sang by the locals. This restaurant wasn't our first choice (it was actually our fourth) but the other two we normally go to were not open, and we tried to try a different BBQ place on the edge of town but it was also closed. So, we ended up here. First impressions: the place smelled good, and already had several people sitting and eating. It's a cozy cabin feel. The lady in front of us took several minutes to order, I suspicion because the girls at the cash register were not working very fast. After she was done, we were left standing at the register while the girls working there messed around with changing the paper roll, with the old roll flying off in our direction with no apology. Simply a laugh and uncomfortable smile. I've never seen a restaurant offer apple cider to drink, so I ordered it, along with a glass of water in case I didn't like it for some reason; however, the apple cider tasted like hot water with very little flavor. Very distasteful. I also never received my water - I had to ask for it and a different drink. They happily brought me a Sprite. Didn't arrive until the end of our meal. Our orders arrived like most restaurants: about a 15-20 minute wait. We ordered the "Family 4 Pack" which comes with 4 BBQ sandwiches and 4 orders of fries. The waitress mixed up the sandwiches and gave my dad my sandwich and gave me his - only difference was cheese on mine. That was quickly fixed. My sandwich tasted like it had been smoked or cooked too long - the meat was dry, even with BBQ sauce, and tasted almost completely like smoke (if anything at all). The fries were average - looked and tasted like the same kind you could buy frozen at Walmart. Overall, I would NOT recommend this place. read more

This is a small cute place in town. It is directly across from Pickin' Park and is as central as you can get. On a weekend night, there are pickers all around and they have an outdoor patio so you can eat and still hear some tunes. The menu is pretty basic, and actually does not have a ton of BBQ, ironically. I did get the ribs and they were great, so soft. It did throw me off that I could get them with the sauce on or off the meat. Everything else on the menu is pretty much fried. They do have ice cream as well. Everything is reasonably priced and also just reasonably good. Nothing stands out, but the service was good and the pork rinds were excellent. They are also open late in a town where everything shuts down early, so that helps. read more

I guess I should give it a zero, since they are never open. I have lived here for 15 years and never can get in this place! I think they just open when it's convenient and they are always out of everything. Not the way to run any business. They need to know that! read more

It makes me sad to give this place a 2-star rating. My husband and I were in town for a photo shoot, and were so excited to try Kin Folks since it had been recommended to us. It was a Saturday evening at 7:02 when we walked through the door. The place smelled great, there was a large menu on the wall, and we were hungry! We approached the counter and were greeted by a young lady who said, "Just so you know, we're out of pinto beans, bbq beans, fried potatoes, baked potatoes, (some other items), and we can't do anything fried." I was taken aback and asked, "What DO you have?" She said that we could order a burger and the only sides available were slaw and potato salad. No tots or fries either. I asked if we could get bbq sandwiches, and she agreed. We were served very quickly and got the feeling that she was just waiting for us to leave. I was surprised since the hours I found advertised on Google said that they were open until 9:00. Again--we were there at 7:00! We ate quickly and left having gotten no additional service. I kid you not--as soon as we stepped out the door, the server turned the lights off and started putting chairs on top of tables. We felt very unwelcome and as if we were inconveniencing her! I could understand (MAYBE) if we showed up five minutes before closing time, but it was still early! If you want to close your restaurant at 7:00, then update your store hours. I found the whole experience odd and off-putting. I won't be back. I only give it 2 stars because the bbq sandwich was good. read more

BBQ wasn't good. The sides of beans I got wasn't much better. Also, this place has too many rules like I can't urinate on the porch or use profane language. Also, this place doesn't have a bathroom and if you ask they make you feel dumb for expecting the place to have one. read more

We stopped in here on our way to Blanchard Springs. The ribs had an amazing smokey flavor that I haven't really had before coming from Southern California. They were also some of the most tender ones too, you could just pull the bones right out! I would definitely eat here again if I'm ever in the area. read more

This place isn't much!!!! I guess it's not the restaurant's fault. It was the people in front of us ordering that were the ass holes. We moved chairs so that we could all sit down and the rather large man said who got our chairs? We didn't know that they were going to sit there. So we said sorry and put them back. He kept on and on about it. I said I don't give a damn where we sit. His daughter about 14 years old turned around to me and said there is no profanity and pointed at a sign that read no profanity!!! I think it was very disrespectful for a teenager to tell me no profanity. Damn is not profanity!!!! Never will go there again and if you use profanity I wouldn't go there either if I were you. read more

Great place to eat while in town. I love their hamburgers and Bar B Que. you can sit on their covered deck and listen to the music. one of the best places on the square. Ice cream and fried pies are very good. read more

We had lunch here. The service was excellent and the food was good but the "plate with bbq and 2 sides" had small portions.

This was awesome! We came on a family trip to float the Buffalo River and took a trip into Mountain View to look around. We read a few good reviews and decided to try it. We were a party of 8 and our food took less than 15 minutes (6:30 on a Saturday night). We sat on the back porch for the breeze and the people watching. You can watch the pickers setting up in the park across from the restaurant. Be sure to stay and listen. At our table we tried the ribs, bbq plate, pulled pork sandwich, and chicken strips. They were all fabulous. Service was great and food was phenomenal! My brother compared it to competition level bbq. He is a bbq snob. I would definitely eat there again. read more

This might just be my favorite place to eat in Stone County... Especially during the lunch hour! They have fantastic lunch specials Monday through Friday! The BBQ, absolutely delicious! The food is good however if your looking for a place to take your kids this is NOT it. They have no kids menu and no restroom if you need one you have to go across the street to the towns park and use the city's public bathrooms and definitely not good if you have a little one in diapers as the public ones have no changing table and don't dare think about changing baby's diaper on a patio table where there is no one you'll get told no. I could understand if it was a nice fancy place with nice furnishings but this was a picnick table on the patio. So glad he didn't get hungry while we were there they probably would have told me I couldn't nurse him inside. For the food it was good but I've had better BBQ. Though they do make there own pork rinds. read more
