Comparing things here to my adopted home, London, where there is a wide range of cuisine on offer, Hong Kong does present itself as a valid case of having your cake and eating it. The reason behind this, of course, is the fact that a lot of the so-called cuisines on offer are localized. I think they do it for several reasons: a) sometimes Hong Kong taste buds might not be able to handle the true local flavor (case in point: curries), they are trying to make it go mainstream (sushi) and thirdly, just like Baap: it is our perception of what Korean food is. Baap is a Korean restaurant but they insisted on calling itself a casual dining place and for good reason; this is not the authentic experience. You do get the stone pot rice, the kimchi, the BBQ- but lets face it- this is as Korean as cha siu bao. However, that's the winning formula of it. Its good value (the sets are way too much for two people), the place is relatively tidy and everything just tastes good. You are not going to impress the Head of the UN with stuff like this but for a family dinner I think this is a pretty good place to be. The menu is quite extensive and there are a million combinations to please everyone; I have no complaints.

The Chain started in Korea in 1981 and has over 140 shops all over Korea now. Being one of the two in Hong Kong, we choose to go the one in Tsuen Wan Plaza. With available underground parking, this is a great location for shopping and dinning. Since it is a new experience for us, we asked for some advice from the person at the front who took our order and also took us to our table. In a nut shell, you get AYCE Korean Chicken Galbi & BBQ items! In the centre of the grill you will have a cooking area for your chicken, the perimeter of the grill is left for your grilled meats etc. They also give you a choice of rice or noodles to mix into the chicken in the centre, and if you want you can also use the centre cooking area to make a hot pot with the soup provided!! As a newbie, this is serious cooking!! Busy with the centre while you have to watch out for all the meats around the side! I have to say all the meats are of high quality and of course their chicken is well spiced and very flavourful!! With all the hot & cold drinks included, your also get a small dessert selection with soft serve as well!! Great experience and you also have fun cooking along the way!! Unlike the regular Korean BBQ we are all so familiar with, this has many other ways you can enjoy the great flavours of a Korean meal!
