I am an absolute pickle maven and expert. I have been to most of the pickle places in PA, New…read moreJersey, New York City and Long Island. I know what good pickles should taste like-I am talking about brine fermented barrel cured kirby cucumber pickles-not the vinegar cured variety type found on supermarket shelves. At first I thought it was great having a NY style pickle place in Quakertown...I have been a customer for over a year and have bought gallons of pickles from this guy. I have to admit I have a love/hate relationship with this place-on one hand I need my pickle fix and on the other I am tired of the poor customer service, the less-than-honest dealings with the customers by the owner and the inconsistent quality of the pickles. I have really tried to give his guy a chance, but he falls short every time to follow through on satisfaction. Let me explain: The pickle quality and consistency varies from one week to the next. One week they are tasty "new pickles" then the next week the pickles are older and stale and on the verge of being full sour for pickles labeled as "new/half sour" Plus, sometimes the pickles have an off taste, as thought they have been sitting around in an open vat in a refrigerator that has lots of spoiled food in it. Definitely not an appetizing taste. Also, the pickles sometimes are these huge hacking pickles where you can only fit 3-4 in a quart container. When I ask about the quality the owner consistently states he switched suppliers. Every week or so you are switching suppliers? Another point is how he packages them. In a real NY style pickle shop, the pickles are hand packed at the time of purchase into quart, half gallon or gallon containers. This owner uses tongs to put them into the container and if one pickle goes in crooked and takes up the space of two or three pickles, so be it-the customer gets shorted. It's less pickles he has to pack into your container and more pickles he has to sell overall. You see those nice bright green pickles in the barrel-forget about getting those if he already has prepackaged pickles in quart containers to sell. This is another trick he uses-he'll prepack the largest pickles he can find and force you to buy them first. If you insist you want the smaller to medium sized pickles (most people do) you are SOL! He won't sell you those-only the big hacking pickles that only have a few in a quart. Very tricky indeed! Lastly, He refuses to give out free samples. In the pickle business it is standard operating procedure to give free samples of the products you sell. The samples don't have to be full size pickles-just slices of them. I have bought gallons of pickles from this guy-always hit or miss-as aforementioned- and he NEVER gave me a sample of a particular pickle I would ask about. Once, I asked him how garlicky his garlic dills are. His response: "Oh! They have a lot of garlic in them." WOW! That really gives me a descriptive flavor profile! NOT! Needless to say, I didn't buy any garlic dills. Hmmm...it costs a few hundreds of a CENT to give a sample and that could turn into 10s of dollars...wouldn't it make sense to give out a sample if someone asks? It's so obtuse thinking to think that you can maximize sales by not giving out samples. I've gone on long enough...thankfully, my favorite pickle purveyor has a stand at a local outdoor farmer's market during the summer and fall. I can get free samples and the quality is consistent.

The pickles are always great, no idea what this "maven of pickledom" is talking about. The garlic…read moredill, Spicy dill and Hawaiian ones are awesome. Prices are superb, never had a quart with a crooked pickle packed in on purpose. Hey maven, if they are packing them sideways, say something at the time, don't be a cry baby who vents on the Internet because you are not strong enough to say what you think at the time, please. Keep a good thing going pickle man, your fellow quakertuckians will keep on crunching!!

This orchard was one of the last ones to still have apple picking available in the first week of November which we were super grateful for. Since most of the remaining apples were on the top of the trees they were thoughtful enough to provide ladders across the orchard which was support useful and made our experience fun and enjoyable. The instructions were very simple and were had the best time enjoying ourselves in the orchard. The apples were absolutely delicious and we also bought other stuff in their store. The apple cider was delicious and so were the Donuts. The donuts were not too greasy and fried perfectly unlike a lot of other places which I absolutely loved. I grabbed a bag for my friend who also loved the donuts so much!! One thing I would love to see here is maybe some sort of savory or fresh food options, like a crepe station or panini situation. I would have loved to sit outside in the picnic tables and have a sandwich. After a whole day of apple picking that is probably the only thing that will push this 5 star experience over the top. If you are looking for a fun, family friendly outdoor activity, please come here!!

Giovanni's Pizza & restaurant is next door is owned by the husband of Mercatino's. Both places serve really good food! My bad experience there today was due to how LONG it takes to order, pay for, and get your food. WAY to long. Plus, everything is overpriced. They make you order from one of two kiosks. Kiosk ask some odd questions that force you to go to the counter to ask things like, what is pressed hot? By the time the lady had time to answer my question, my order was timed out and I had to start all over. Then my chicken cutlet ssandwich comes with broccoli rabe, but the kiosk suggested I add it and pay more for it. WHAT? The friendly lady came out from behind the counter to help me with the order. Then she asked for my email address and phone numberto complete the order. WHAT? She claimed I HAD TO input my phone number and email address to complete my order - WHAT??I We argued a minute and I said I just want to buy my sandwich which doesn't require giving out my email and phone numbeI. I finally completed my orderand asked at the counter what's next. The lady behind the counter says here's your reciept, you have to go up front to the cashier pay for it 1st. I said what the heck and she explained someone walked out, not paying so this is their procedure now. So, okay, I walked to the fron register, presented my nvoice and paid. So, again I ask what's next. The cashier hands me a paid for sticker and said go back to the counter in the rear to get your food. Okay, so I walked back to the rear counter to discover they hadn't started to assemble my sandwich yet. So, I milled aroiund with other confused looking customers waiting for their food. 20 minutes later I got my food and FINALLY left. The food is good but very expensive, the staff is friendly, but I'll never go thru that again. Their bakery is exceptional but they get it from La Dolce Vita Italian bakery in Wescoville, it's a great Italian bakery in Wescoville. Their bread comes from NY and itself is worth the trip there. The frozen section is exceptional as well. Just don't order a sandwich unless you have the day off or like me, are retired!
