I bought delicious salmon for dinner last night. So great to have a real fishmonger in the neighborhood!

H Mart - Rice bowl and tteokbokki

I love this H Mart. It is, in my opinion, a far superior location than the store in K-Town. I was happy to see that they offered meals from BBQ Chicken, a wings restaurant that I enjoy visiting on 34th street. But I wanted to try something else today, so I purchased the fried chicken bowl. For $12.99, this meal offered great value. It was filled to the brim, with generous amounts of chicken breast. The meat itself was substantial, with a fair amount of breading-to-chicken ratio. There was enough, if not more, bites of chicken than there was rice, and even the rice itself wasn't just mere fluff to fill its container. On top of the rice was a layer of sautéed onions and mushrooms. This was a hearty bowl indeed and well worth the price. My husband ordered the spam kimbap served cold. Although good, I found that this roll didn't have a hero flavor and was bland overall. I wish it contained something like kimchi to add a bit of zing to each bite. Still, I find the food offerings here to be quite good and would certainly come here again to try their other hot meals.

K-Pop is always playing, and you can't help but be happy while shopping there. Sometimes. One thing that makes the shopping experience less than a joy is the lurking presence, everywhere you turn, of the H Mart security guards. The Upper West Side branch has groups of guards whose bad vibe is palpable as they follow customers up and down the aisles eyeballing everyone, frequently with challenging looks. I can't speak to H Mart's perceived need for this level of security, but unless they are selling mochis stuffed with diamonds, it seems excessive. There is a little less intrusive presence in the K-Town branch and a recent visit to Edison, NJ was not as bad. But man, oh man, the security at that Upper West Side branch exudes as much warmth and shopping comfort as a holding pen at Rikers. I hope H Mart could find a happy solution to this issue.

You can also add veggies to your order for a few dollars more, veggie options also posted on the wall. I grabbed shrimp, scallops, and a fillet of salmon and had them all steamed. There was also the option to fry them. The salmon was the best of the three - I would get this again. The shrimps were standard but on the smaller side because I got the regular size. The scallops were hard as I didn't even finish those. I paired cauliflower and yams with this order. My partner and I shared and it was definitely enough for the both of us. We had leftover veggies in fact. I love that they have a bunch of seasonings on the side so you can add whatever you want on top. The guy shows you your food before he puts a lid on them so you can add like liquid butter, Bay, lemon, salt and pepper, etc. I added the lemon seasoning on top of the salmon and it was so good. They have frozen seafood in the fridge behind the cash register. I would pick up one of those boxes first see if I was doing a seafood night. They have a good selection of seafood to choose from and I love that you can grab what you want yourself. What I really noticed is that it doesn't smell too fishy in here, it just clearly smells like the sea.

They grilled up some snapped for me on a bed of rice. Then be sure to use their sauces and…read moreseasonings that they offer. Phenomenal And a great price at $16 for a healthy and delicious meal.

5 star review for the Knoll Krest Farm stand @ the Tuccker Square Greenmarket…read more They always have such high quality products, and amazing customer service. They sell a variety of seasonally rotating items including fresh pastas, soups, potpies and pastries, etc., I also find they're the best stand in this small market to purchase goods for later in the week/future meal planning. For example, the Chicken Pozole $15/qt- can be purchased at room temp or frozen. The frozen option is fantastic for a quick easy meal on hand- can be defrosted quickly or during the day in the fridge. My parents are obsessed with the pozole from el mitote- but my mom likes to modify hers as white meat only which they often cannot do. They were very happy when I introduced them to Knoll Krest Farm's Pozole- they reported back that it was flavorful and had a TON of white meat chicken. It's also reasonably priced. The other soups they had that day were a vegetable soup and I believe a chicken noodle.

The market is named after Richard Tucker the Opera singer. The nearby park is a comfortable place to rest after you shop. This area is great for visitors to Lincoln Center and the nearby American Folk Art Museum. I'm going back soon since I still have friends living in the neighborhood. It's fresh fruit and veggies so enjoy!
