I easily made an appointment online. She offers great hours, including appointments on Monday (which is typically my only kid-free day). Parking was easy, but the instructions to the studio were key to finding it (it looks like just another condo). Jada was super nice and very thorough. I had about 6 inches cut off so it was definitely a dramatic change. However, I love it! The entire appointment lasted about 100 minutes. I left feeling fabulous! I will definitely be back.

Until recently, Mehana Salon was located near the Kapolei Costco, but they've since moved to a new location--behind the newly built Hyatt hotel, roughly halfway between Ewa and Kapolei. However, I was really surprised to discover that the current owner of the *old* location--where Jenny used to work--is now using a name that is very similar to Mehana Salon! I actually had to call them directly to verify the details and track down the correct address. Since the names are so confusingly similar, I highly recommend double-checking everything before you make a Appointment with Jenny at Mehana Salon!

I had a very disappointing experience at Mehana Salon with Shari…read more Before she started, I clearly explained what I wanted. I specifically asked for my hair to be cut to about neck length, and I pointed to the exact spot. I also asked for layers because my hair is very fine and straight and doesn't hold styling well. I've had this haircut before, and I know it works well for my hair type. Instead, Shari said she would cut some of the length off before washing it. I was facing away from the mirror when she took out a razor and removed what felt like almost all of my hair in one go. She never showed me what she had done. Instead, she immediately directed me to the shampoo station. After washing my hair, she wrapped it in a towel and had me return to the styling chair. Once again, I was kept facing away from the mirror for the entire remainder of the appointment. She continued cutting my hair for about 25 minutes without ever letting me see the progress or asking for my input. When she finally turned me toward the mirror while drying my hair, I was shocked. I honestly wanted to cry. My hair was much shorter than I had requested and looked like a helmet around my head. It was so short that I couldn't even pull it back into a ponytail to hide it. Because of how it was cut, my naturally straight hair curves inward, and I can't style it the way I normally do. To make matters worse, she didn't ask how I normally part my hair until the very end of the appointment--something every stylist I've been to asks before cutting because it affects the entire haircut. She also told me, "I gave you curtain bangs too," even though I never asked for them. In fact, I specifically avoid styles with hair in my face because I don't like them. A haircut takes months to grow out, and this experience has been incredibly upsetting. I went in asking for a specific length and style and left with something completely different, without being given any opportunity to see or approve the haircut during the process. Please see the before and after photos I have attached

Because it was badly damaged she recommended I do the Milbon repair treatment which I happily agreed. It's a Japanese product that is considered very good. The shampoo station area was fine and clean. The chair though has a lever on the side close to the wall which is kind of awkward for the stylist to get to. I've only been on the bottom floor of the two story salon. From what I can tell it is very clean, maintained, and organized. After my repair treatment we went to the hair cutting chair where there was a hook to hang my jacket which was convenient. I showed Nona a photo of what I was hoping to achieve and she managed to get it as close as possible. My hair looked and felt healthier which was the best feeling! Shes so sweet and gave me tips on how to maintain and help heal my hair. I also got to meet another stylist Dani! Shes also the sweetest! I can't wait to go back for my follow up trim. Raeden is an extremely talented stylist. I came to him today to get a pixie cut and he advised me to get an asymmetrical bob instead. I'm glad he did and my hair turned out great. He said if I got a pixie cut, I would have to wake up everyday and style it and if I was a wash and go kind of person, it might not work out. He just looks at your hair, looks at how it falls and there's a knowing of what would work and what might not. There's a real precision in the way he cuts hair. Short haircuts are really tricky because if it's a bit off, the shape of your head kinda looks lopsided. My hair falls so nicely after Raeden cut it. The last time Raeden cut my hair he was still at Cosmic Beauty and I had so many compliments on my haircut. He's really passionate about what he does and he educates his customers about how to take care of their hair. I really appreciate his direct honesty and how he gives you and honest assessment because it assists you in making a decision about a haircut you'll have to live with for at least several months.
