When I went, it was near the end of day, but the park rangers still admitted me in as the park's gate doesn't close until 10pm. There didn't seem to be many people that day, though I believe it was because I went in the middle of July in very warm temps. However, I was rewarded by the cold and refreshing South Llano River which I enjoyed mostly by myself. Standing in the river near the shore, small fish came up to my feet and ankles and started feeding off of my dead skin. It felt like I was getting a pedicure, except in a natural environment. There were a few places to access the river and plenty of parking around. I saw that they had several miles of trails to explore though I didn't get the chance to hike any of them. It is important to consider that the park is susceptible to flooding as its on low ground, so time your visit accordingly. Personally, I really enjoyed this park and I hope to be able to return during the cooler months to see stars in the dark sky!

The trails are well kept and I appreciated being able to do some birdwatching because they have designated areas for this. Additionally the river adds another perk to the park, you can go tubing, fishing, swim, etc. As far as the staff members, overall everybody was nice during check-in but on the night that there was a cold front and hail storm I was seeking help and no one was to be found. The hosts were off duty, the ranger we asked for help at the front that was sitting in his truck was dismissive, and the operator didn't answer. The good thing was that the park is about 15 minutes from the nearby town so I was able to get help there but in a case of emergency, I think somebody should be accessible. Overall, I really love the park. The sites good but beware of the cacti! Depending on which site you select, you may have more or less room for tents in the grassy area. I recommended the sites in the 40s for larger groups. Go to the observatory if you can, the hike is worth the beautiful view! Oh also there's plethora of animals! On this trip I saw deer, a roadrunner, a hog, armadillos, canaries, and hummingbirds.

Easily one of the nicest playgrounds we've been to…read more We're on a journey from San Antonio to Colorado Springs via Santa Fe with an 11 month old and a 3 year old. We plan stops every 3ish hours. Kid's Kingdom was one such stop. Obviously I peeped the pics ahead of time, so I was expecting a pretty nice large play area.. but we all know pics can be deceiving. Not here. The mulch, grass, fences, and equipment are all really well maintained. The picnic area and trash cans are kept clean. It's right across from the San Angelo River walk (which is really pretty, but we didn't check it out). There's a little body weight type of work out spot just a few feet away under the bridge, and plenty of benches or spots to sit on all throughout the equipment. My personal favorite thing about the playground was the tandem baby swing. My youngest loves swinging, but she gets a real quick when I get to do it with her! My oldest got a kick out of the huge sandbox (I didn't so much) Down sides? Even though there are a few covered spots sprinkled throughout the equipment, and a little shade from the surrounding trees, most of the playground gets direct sunlight. It's summer time in TX, so it was a cool 98-100 degrees while we were there. Some canopies would've made a huge difference! Also, even though the outhouse style (although flushable) toilets were kept generally clean, the smell of sewage was pretty severe when you got close. Yuck. Overall, though, great playground!

We like to tent camp on the river, they have the glamping set ups that are great for the kids, my in-laws stayed in a rental cabin along the river and also rented a RV spot with full hook up. We spent our Central Texas vacation with all of our family on the lamp River and went fishing for rainbow trout and bass. We're gonna come back for the tubing adventure when it warms up a bit. The campground hosts are awesome people and made sure our stay was excellent.

We had a great time walking next to the Guadalupe River which loops around for miles. Shady areas under the canopy of the trees and lots of picnic areas inside the park. Fishing seems very popular at the park, and you can see the trout swimming around. We walked for 8 miles on Easter Sunday, and the walking paths never seemed crowded. We shared the paths with other walkers, joggers ,runners, and bikes on the path too.

I went for the first time in…read moreNovember with my mom hoping to catch some foliage and we definitely did see plenty both on the way and at the park! The trail isn't too hard; I did the east loop going clockwise since the volunteers told me there was probably a little better foliage along this loop than the west loop. I was able to do the whole thing and return to where I started in a little under 2 hours. It was a relatively warm day; I was grateful i bought my personal fan when going up the steep part because I was definitely starting to sweat! After that though it was mostly flat and then back downhill so no issues with getting hot. I got several lovely photos along the way and was certainly reminded how gorgeous and colorful Texas can be! Only note: be sure to make a timed entry reservation if you go during the peak season (fall) because it absolutely sells out! I tried going with a friend last year and we didn't have a res and we were turned away - we ended up going to Garner state park which is also gorgeous and fun, about 30 mins drive away from lost maples. This year we got entry for the 11a-1p entry time, and by the week or so prior to going, everything was sold out for that Saturday we were going. So bear that in mind!

Once we arrived, we found the tunnel is just the bottom of the start of the trail. While bats had migrated south for the winter, we did see a few flying inside. The trail is about a mile round trip. While we didn't hike it, it didn't appear too challenging. The lost challenging was probably walking down all thise steps to the tunnel. We'll have to make another trip during bat season to see the bats flying out of the cave

The screened shelters are nice if you want to make a room inside or just to store things. Surprisingly enough, the bathrooms always seem to be clean and well stocked. They are also cold which is nice when it's hot out. The store offers lots of basic essentials in case you forgot anything and the gift shop is stocked with merch. There is currently some construction which can cause some headaches, but it's pretty minimal.

Fantastic municipal park!…read more After a second year at this park, I can say that we love this park. This park is adjacent to the "mighty" Guadalupe River, and in particular Kerville's dammed in Guadalupe Lake, where the park's inhabitants can fish, swim, SUP, kayak, and pretty much anything else you can do in a small body of water. Our scouts had a fantastic time, they spent the entire day in the water... and would have spent the night, had we let them. The grounds on the river side are clean, but fully to semi- exposed to the sunlight, which can be brutal in the Texas summers. This side also has cabins, two docks and a recreation space for events. All were being utilized, but everybody was respectful and friendly. We did cross the highway to hike some of the trails on the opposite side of the park. We found various trails of 3-5 miles of length. There were more cabins and camping spots on this side. All was well maintained. The there are four shower/bathrooms at the top of the camp site, a dumpster for collected trash, and marked campsites. There are spigots for drinking water spread amongst the available campsites, but they are not at every one. The Kerrville City Parks facilitators were always patrolling and attentive to our needs. This park is a beautiful city park, and worth considering for your outdoor activities.

It was always enjoyable and a mere 4 miles from my home. But then I was seduced. Yes, Gentle Reader, seduced by the Kerrville River Trail. The concrete, 10-foot-wide trails sang their siren song, beckoning me. Ah, at first I resisted but one day after a rain that would leave the Kerrville-Schreiner Park's trails muddy and inhospitable, I succumbed and became a willing prisoner of concrete bliss. Don't get me wrong, the River Trail is excellent and I'm sure that after heavy rains, I'll find myself there again for awhile. But the River Trail is undeniably an urban trail as it winds its way past roads and buildings--there is no seclusion and as the years past, a secluded spot to walk was what I desired. So, to Kerrville-Schreiner Park I returned. Things had changed. The annual pass fee had doubled to $50. Still, a pittance considering I go a minimum of three days a week. If I chose to pay by the day, a year's use would be $882! And that's allowing for the approximately three weeks in December when the park is closed because of the bow hunters culling the deer population. So, $50 is still very much a bargain. And the fee also includes access to Flat Rock Lake where fishing and boating await you. I was delighted to find that two trails had been added in my absence, the Deer Field Loop and the Teal Trail. Plus, there were add-ons to the Red and Yellow Trails. The new trails are serpentine, weaving their way back and forth through the trees. Both are narrow trails with gentle ups and downs. You will find some areas rocky but still easily navigated. And for those days when the Texas sun is relentlessly beating down, these new trails will provide ample shade, And the add-ons to the Yellow and Red Trails are very similar. So, I'm back and I could swear I heard the trees whisper, "Welcome back, Doc; we've missed you." The feeling's mutual! Whether you're a resident or visitor, consider visiting this Hill Country gem. The trees just might talk to you, too.

Black Rock Park Cabin 48 Great spot. Cabins are pretty close…read moretogether. Beds are so loud, squeaky and barely comfortable. Definitely take fitted sheets. The wind was crazy but it was really peaceful. There's a 9 hole putt putt golf course, $9 per person, that is in good condition but not maintained at all, it was covered in leaves and twigs. Bathroom with shower was very close to cabin but it was dirty and there was no hand soap and the handicap bathroom ran out of toilet paper. We would still stay here again.

The upgrades to this park are awesome and the lake is full so that makes it really special…read more However, they are invaded by Canada geese so get ready to step in goose poop. You can't play putt putt, you can't walk the beach and you can't really walk anywhere without stepping in the poop. I love wild life and I especially love birds but this is too much. I understand the geese are there through winter.
