We had a great time walking next to the Guadalupe River which loops around for miles. Shady areas under the canopy of the trees and lots of picnic areas inside the park. Fishing seems very popular at the park, and you can see the trout swimming around. We walked for 8 miles on Easter Sunday, and the walking paths never seemed crowded. We shared the paths with other walkers, joggers ,runners, and bikes on the path too.

This park is adjacent to the "mighty" Guadalupe River, and in particular Kerville's dammed in Guadalupe Lake, where the park's inhabitants can fish, swim, SUP, kayak, and pretty much anything else you can do in a small body of water. Our scouts had a fantastic time, they spent the entire day in the water... and would have spent the night, had we let them. The grounds on the river side are clean, but fully to semi- exposed to the sunlight, which can be brutal in the Texas summers. This side also has cabins, two docks and a recreation space for events. All were being utilized, but everybody was respectful and friendly. We did cross the highway to hike some of the trails on the opposite side of the park. We found various trails of 3-5 miles of length. There were more cabins and camping spots on this side. All was well maintained. The there are four shower/bathrooms at the top of the camp site, a dumpster for collected trash, and marked campsites. There are spigots for drinking water spread amongst the available campsites, but they are not at every one. The Kerrville City Parks facilitators were always patrolling and attentive to our needs. This park is a beautiful city park, and worth considering for your outdoor activities.

It was always enjoyable and a mere 4 miles from my home. But then I was seduced. Yes, Gentle Reader, seduced by the Kerrville River Trail. The concrete, 10-foot-wide trails sang their siren song, beckoning me. Ah, at first I resisted but one day after a rain that would leave the Kerrville-Schreiner Park's trails muddy and inhospitable, I succumbed and became a willing prisoner of concrete bliss. Don't get me wrong, the River Trail is excellent and I'm sure that after heavy rains, I'll find myself there again for awhile. But the River Trail is undeniably an urban trail as it winds its way past roads and buildings--there is no seclusion and as the years past, a secluded spot to walk was what I desired. So, to Kerrville-Schreiner Park I returned. Things had changed. The annual pass fee had doubled to $50. Still, a pittance considering I go a minimum of three days a week. If I chose to pay by the day, a year's use would be $882! And that's allowing for the approximately three weeks in December when the park is closed because of the bow hunters culling the deer population. So, $50 is still very much a bargain. And the fee also includes access to Flat Rock Lake where fishing and boating await you. I was delighted to find that two trails had been added in my absence, the Deer Field Loop and the Teal Trail. Plus, there were add-ons to the Red and Yellow Trails. The new trails are serpentine, weaving their way back and forth through the trees. Both are narrow trails with gentle ups and downs. You will find some areas rocky but still easily navigated. And for those days when the Texas sun is relentlessly beating down, these new trails will provide ample shade, And the add-ons to the Yellow and Red Trails are very similar. So, I'm back and I could swear I heard the trees whisper, "Welcome back, Doc; we've missed you." The feeling's mutual! Whether you're a resident or visitor, consider visiting this Hill Country gem. The trees just might talk to you, too.

When you're in Kerrville, you can spot this huge cross on the top of the hill. There's actually a…read morelot more to see here than the cross itself, although it is quite majestic. Next to the huge cross are thousands of laid out stones with prayers on them from the faithful. You'll see several bronze statues placed about the top of the property. This is a great place for people of faith to come and reflect, give thanks and pray while listening to worship music playing near the cross. Just in case, they do have a porta potty.

Now that most of the trail is reopened, you can see exactly how the flood took out all the vegetation on both sides of the river, including most of the trees except the cypress. All the bent over cypress were actuall flattened and are gradually straightening up but it's questionable if they will ever be erect, They have planted a number of trees and plants long the trail and you can still see a lot of deer along it in the morning and evening.

Such peace in this place! I love this scripture/sculpture garden with rows of prayer rocks and…read morebeautiful walkways and so many quiet corners. You can feel all the love from the prayers and well wishes of people who have left a rock here. I especially loved the "Don't give up" and "Love conquers all" rocks. The white horse placed perfectly under the giant cross was just breath taking! It made me think of the scripture of the King returning on a white horse called "Faithful and True." On one of the pathways, I could hear two guys praying and one was crying tears of joy. I walked a bit further and saw many of the beautiful names of God including one of my favorite El Shaddai (also a beautiful song). On another wall were lists of events and volunteer opportunities. On another path I found a shaded spot with something called "the Hope statue". It was Jesus sitting and listening to a lady which may have been the lady by the well who felt alone and ostracized until Jesus showed her how He really sees her and taught her about the living water.In these stressful ,busy times it feels good to sit still in a beautiful place like this and really be present. I will definitely check into donating to this spot and getting out this way more often.

They will reopen in a few weeks after the center repairs are complete. The trails were well maintained with lots of beautiful flowers and trees that are still in good shape. They have a water fountain with a place to refill your water bottles outside, which was convenient. I look forward to returning soon.

We showed up early and waited in the parking lot, along with several other people who were also waiting and no one ever showed up. After 20 minutes, we decided to go on our own walk by ourselves. When we arrived to the center, we had driven a long way, so I had to use the facilities and there were none open or available. Will never do this again or recommend it.

We were favorably impressed by the place itself, and by the preparations and accomodations the City made, both for the many thousands of tourists expected to arrive, all at once, on the day of the eclipse, and for Kerrville's residents, who were certain to be affected by the influx of people and their cars, and by the demands these guests would make on local businesses and infrastructure. The City did a fantastic job of organizing, promoting and managing eclipse viewing opportunities around town. Besides hosting an "Eclipse Festival" in its Louise Hays Park, the city's Parks & Recreation Department opened the Kerrville Sports Complex as a parking and viewing location. This was not a free offer. Pre-paid parking, on either the Baseball/Softball side of the Complex or the Soccer side, cost $75 to $100, depending when it was purchased. I was happy to pay the fee, because I'm a planner, and reserved parking let me avoid driving around a strange town with a clock ticking in my head as the eclipse approached. It saved me from competing with other out-of-towners for a viewing spot. And best, it provided us with a secure stopping place, food, drinks, merch, portable toilets and easy access to the interstate, once the event was finished. I'd never heard of Kerrville before I started planning our excursion, and I don't think I'll have reason to visit again, but I'm grateful to the City and its citizens for their hospitality.

This is a public park surrounded on all sides by single-family residences in Kerrville. The primary…read moreadded attraction to this park is the gravel trail that runs the length and width of the property. There are several benches and picnic tables scattered about the acreage including a gazebo, but no playscape or bathrooms. There are two small gravel lots on Methodist encampment Road to park at. The trail itself runs, perhaps half a mile, more or less in circumference. All along the trail there are these small informational exercise kiosks which really don't serve much of a purpose. Nonetheless, this is a great park in a quiet neighborhood where you can get your steps in surrounded by a fair amount of green space.
