Cibolo Nature Center is the brainchild of Carolyn Chipman Evans who in 1988 envisioned a place where people could connect with nature. Over time the center has expanded to include Nest Nature School, Herff Farm with a weekly farmer's market, and miles of water and wildlife conservation. The hiking areas go along the creek and offer really beautiful classic hill country scenery. The area is a popular spot for professional photos with affordable permits from $25-50. For hiking the trails are available 8AM to dusk seven days per week. The center is free for hiking. Parking is a bit limited, arriving early is beneficial.

I first stopped at the Visitor Center to get a map and some recommendations. The person at the center was so friendly and nice. Dogs are allowed in the park and there's plenty of doggie bags and trashcans around. The center area has some parking, a pavilion, restrooms and a gift shop. The hiking loop is about 2 miles and can be longer, depending on if you decide to take smaller trails around. However, everything is basically a loop so you won't get lost too easily. You might end up spending a lot of time just enjoying the view and watching the creek! Although I visited during the fall/winter time, there's still much to see. We saw deer drinking from the creek, stumbled on two armadillos and countless wren and birds in the trees. I'm sure the view in the spring and summer is even more gorgeous. Know that there's many areas without shade so it could get very hot. Near the creek has plenty of shade but the trails are more narrow. And, lots of exposed tree roots that may stumble and unwary hiker.

Came early on a Saturday and I was surprised as to why I've never been here. Being a trail and hike lover this place is absolutely beautiful to explore. I enjoyed the creek so much that we took so many pictures in the area alone. I will definitely be coming back - my time here was so peaceful and the breeze was heavenly.

Very pretty place to get away from the hustle and bustle of down town. Lots of trails, paved and unpaved. We really enjoyed just walking around and seeing where we end up. I will say though, the trails aren't marked very well. We would assume we were going one direction but we actually weren't. A lot of the trails seemed "sketch" too like it wasn't actually trail but us just trailing through the woods.

Proof this place is gorgeous - pic taken on a cell phone.

Gorgeous all year round, but fall is something special. Jogging stroller friendly, 5 min walk to the water, and smooth terrain. Easy parking and lots of armadillo sightings!

One of the best swimming holes I've been to in Texas! After walking down to the creek, walk along the path to where it gets a little deep. The water is cool and the trees all around are gorgeous. It was great for our family. Our kids were in heaven. We Spent a few hours.

This place is so pretty! Walking along the creek is amazingly beautiful! I love the information center that is available. I took my dog, Sophie and we both had a blast.

Outstanding place just around the corner from the house. If you're looking for a quick hike or just to spend some time outdoors learning about nature then this place is for you. In fact, this place is for everyone! My son and I usually walk from the house and go along the Old Number 9 trail which will leads to the city park. It's a great place!

I love this place. We chose Boerne for the hiking options. This place did not let us down. My hubby and I hiked for about 4 miles and stopped so many times to ooh and aah over the beautiful Bald Cypress trees. We stopped at the buildings and watched birds in the bird feeders and other critters running around. Very nice place. Yay!

Beautiful wide walking trail

Beautiful trails with so many choices. Walk through the woods on a wide dirt trail, walk along bridges to the large park nearby or walk a thin tree-lined trail right along the river (more ducking below trees and balancing on rocks but quite fun). This park is perfect for pictures - the day we went, numerous families were having portraits taken (which made crossing the bridge a nuisance since it was blocked with people and photographers equipment). Also, certain parts of the river were "off limits" due to photographers using the space. No problem to us at all but other families were bothered. Lol There is a great peaceful park near the trails for kids to play on but a newer, larger playground near the playing fields as well. Also, an area where a band was playing near the parking lot. There really is a lot to do! I would have definitely given 5 stars if there was more parking offered for the trails. All the (small) lots were crammed full and we had to park pretty far to get there. It was fine upon arriving but after hiking for two hours, the walk back to the car wasn't as fun. Still... A super day!!

Good information about the park too and didn't feel I would get lost either (good flat paths you can take). I barely saw any trash flying around either and could tell they keep this park well kept. I absolutely plan to come back here in the future when I have time. Definitely worth the visit!

A rushing water sound made by the many waterfalls into the narrow canyon. I've traveled so many places, but I was awestruck at the beauty of this place. It looks exotic and out of place in Texas. Still, it was wonderful. It should be open to the public and protected at the same time. To get to it, walk the length of the Blanco River from either the north or the south. No one owns the river as the Blanco is known as a perennial River and these types of rivers cannot be privately owned. So, take the river from public property and walk up or down it to reach the Narrows. Don't litter as the place is pristine and really don't jump from the cliffs. The tour starts at the historic Rust House. You can explore the entire house, then they share some history about the Rust family and the other German families that settled in the area. The hike was a couple of miles, and it lasted about two hours. The guide was VERY knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and I really learned a lot and gained a lot of appreciation for this area. Not a strenuous hike at all, but they recommend wearing long pants because some of the trails we took were in high grass - not terribly high, just a foot or two. You don't need hiking shoes, just an old pair of tennis shoes will do. Most of the hike is shaded and you get some awesome river views about halfway into the hike - get your phones/cameras ready! It's ok for kids too, but parts of it might be boring for them - I would recommend age 8 and up. Not because it's strenuous, but because there are a lot of stops that a kid might be bored with, and I get that. P.S. I saw my first Golden Cheeked Warbler on this hike, thanks to someone on the tour who pointed it out. EVERY Golden Cheeked Warbler is a native Texan y'all - look it up if you don't believe me!
