Butterflies floating and gliding all around me with a good book was precisely what I needed. Later, I headed down one of the paths and came to an area with a big beautiful bird feeder set up in a shaded, tucked away area and a lady asked me if I would like to help fill the feeder. I was honored. She explained she was with Friends of Fredericksburg and they are often out there restocking the feeders for their feathery friends. She mentioned their website and I can't wait to research more about them and their events. I will have to venture back that way soon to check out more of the trails and scenery.

There's a nice long loop around the base of the rock top hike and there's the summit hike. The summit hike is the one that draws the crowds. On this occasion we opted to do the loop. The weather was pleasant, but got warm fast. There's not much shade, so prepare accordingly- sunscreen, hats, water. The trail is peaceful and quaint. We didn't see very many hikers or wildlife. The hike is relatively easy, until it isn't. At one point, I really thought we must have turned off the trail. We were down to single file, rocky terrain. I didn't remember this part of the trail so I'm memorializing my trauma now. Luckily, I was with a supportive and helpful partner who lead the way and helped me when I needed. Once we got passed that stretch of terror, we were home free! And then we had to traverse the parking lot clear to the other side. Come to find out, there's two ways to start the loop. Pro tip, park somewhere in the middle to trick yourself into feeling like the end doesn't last forever. Sign me up to go back on the winter!

We had our dog with us so we're only allowed to go on the loop trail (about 4.6 miles). There was a scenic lookout along the way. If you start left to right, the trail becomes narrower. Also, some cell signals are stronger along the loop trail. There are about 2-3 restrooms along the trail. We went at around 9:30. As we were leaving around 12:30, more cars were coming into the area.

There's a visitor center, and several gardens and placards all along the trail to tell the history and ecology of the area. The well itself did not appear to be flowing or if it was it was flowing only slightly. The hike as you get close to the well is a little bit more treacherous, but not too bad. Once you are there, the well is dark emerald green in color. It looks kind of mysterious. lol Good spot for a short hike to explore some nature and see a natural wonder.

But despite that notion, Jacob's Well overall is very underwhelming. The hike is probably the shortest and least challenging I've ever experienced. There are several mini trails that are great for kids to explore, along with a large tire swing at the front entrance. Jacob's Well is definitely very kid- and senior-friendly as it's not very strenuous at all to hike or walk around. It's a nice that it's there for everyone to experience nature but again, very underwhelming. We spent about half an hour there which was enough time to experience the entire area. Definitely worth a visit if it's your first time in Wimberley.

This is the best Texas Hill country getaway I've ever been to. It offers anything you would ever…read morewant for everyone in the family. We like to tent camp on the river, they have the glamping set ups that are great for the kids, my in-laws stayed in a rental cabin along the river and also rented a RV spot with full hook up. We spent our Central Texas vacation with all of our family on the lamp River and went fishing for rainbow trout and bass. We're gonna come back for the tubing adventure when it warms up a bit. The campground hosts are awesome people and made sure our stay was excellent.

Everything is super maintained than most parks I've been before! I usually go with my MIL, my baby girl and our dogs to get them some exercise as well and try to do 1-2 miles each time we are here. Depending on what trails you walk/hike on, theres some with shade and some that you will hit up the blazing sun, but with fall upon it hasn't been horrible! Everyone who hikes here are really respectful with the trails/area which is such a pleasant thing as there's usually not a lot of people who do that now a days. Will of course be returning weekly to get our steps in and vitamin D!

This is a small city of Fredericksburg public park that runs along Barons creek and tucked into a…read moresmall neighborhood not far from Main Street. It's basically just a stretch of green space flanked by some older local residential homes. At the far end of the park there is a wooded area accessible to the creek but it does not have a primitive trail. There is a gravel trail circling part of the park, but it does not lead anywhere. There are benches, picnic tables, and a set of swings, but that's the extent of the amenities here. However, in the middle of the park are two gigantic trees, one of which is a pecan.
