My wife is pregnant, she couldn't move fast and felt sad and angry about this thing. There is no respect from the the employee at this store. Please avoid this store. It was really a bad bad experience.

I have no idea what the rule is about bringing packaged foods back to the U.S., but I wanted to buy so much stuff I used to keep in my Italian pantry! Next visit to Montreal we plan to stay in the Little Italy area and shop here on day one. Even if we have to eat it all before we leave town. We literally stumbled upon this grocery store. Established in 1954, two brothers introduced Montreal to Italian products. Today their children have taken over and it seems to be a very popular neighborhood market based on the number of customers shopping during our visit. Bakery, deli, meat counter, dairy, produce. All the sections you expect in a traditional grocery store. The breakfast sweets. The Chocolate. Whole rabbit in the meat counter. So much pasta! Oil, balsamic, sauce. I just need to go back. If you cook Italian, you should be shopping here. Actually, if you eat, you should shop here.

I have been going over the past 8 years and couldn't help but notice how much this market has…read moredegraded. Food is overpriced: I recently bought for 11.99 an item that I found at 7.99 at the nearby Walmart. Service is inexistant, employees just don't care. Carts are nowhere to be found at certain times and you have to cross the whole floor to find one at the other exit, again because employees are out of f*** to give. The place is filthy, and I have bought way too many past date items, or things of dubious freshness to use Adonis as my main source of groceries anymore. At my last visit, emphasis on last, one of the items was not recognized at the cash register (and that has happens quite a lot at this store). The cashier made me wait for a price verification by a floor employee. After some awkward wait and no one showing up, I offered to go take a picture of the price label directly on the shelf, which I thought was a reasonable solution to save everyone's time. The cashier refused saying it has to be an employee. I will not let anyone insinuate I could be dishonest. I took it as an insult and left everything. That's it. I'm done with Adonis.

Immediately took them back to the store, which gave me a refund immediately, then walked with the meat dept. employee back to the meat counter, and explained what had happened. He took a sniff and tried to explain it was because they were marinated in wine. I persisted until he called another employee who sniffed the tray, and immediately recoiled from the stench. The entire tray was then removed, but it's concerning that it had been in their countertop cooler for at least 24 hours, next to many other raw meat products. While I used to like things like their raw chicken kebabs, I don't see myself buying these products anymore at Adonis, as the lack of oversight in leaving obviously rotten meat for sale for at least a day, if not more, is very worrying. Too bad. I still enjoy their fruits and veggies and their nuts & dates, as well as their deli meats and cheese counters.

Fantastic Eastern European supermarket! Saw lots of specialty items from Russia, Ukraine, Poland…read moreand the rest of Eastern Europe. You're going to hear a lot of Slavic languages here and see lots of Cyrillic languages on some of the labels. They have whole aisles just for pickles and pickled foodstuffs, another aisle to jams and fruit preserves, a wonderful frozen foods area where you'll find frozen pierogies of various kinds of Russian pelmeni, Georgian khinkali, and Ukrainian vareniki including dessert versions like cherry vareniki (dumplings). You'll find fresh organic butter and yogurts and the meat and cold cuts counter is damn good too. Garlic sausages, lamb cutlets, cheeses, I don't know any of their names but just ask the person behind the counter and she'll either explain items to you or even give you a small sample to try right there. Their liverwurst is great. You'll find all the European brand chocolates like Milka and Rittensoort, Polish Wawel poppyseed cakes and babkas and tons of other stuff. There's also a prepared foods counter which had some good stuff. I took home a large container of real home-made borscht that even had huge chuncks of beef in it and it was perfect for a dinner on a cold evening. You need a good hour here to just look over stuff and see what they have.
