I went to a dentist who gave me antibiotics and told me I could either have the tooth extracted or see if the pain subsides and if it does do nothing for now. The pain went away and did not come back for three years until two weeks ago, the same pain. I went to my dentist and she said that maybe the tooth was cracked or the dentist who did the root canal didn't remove all of the canals. She recommended I have the tooth extracted and get an implant, this came up to about $5,000. I told a co-worker about my situation and she recommended that I get a second opinion and referred me to her dentist Gary L. Johnson. I was able to get an early morning appointment the next day! The entire staff was extremely friendly. Dr. Johnson examined my tooth and offered two options, one get a 360 degree x-ray of my tooth to have the best view of its condition and if the Endodontist recommends it, have the tooth retreated or go ahead and have the tooth extracted, get an implant, and be done with it. Dr. Johnson referred me to Drs. Navid Akbar and Elias Haddad. After the 360 degree x-ray it was determined that the retreatment had an 80% chance of success and if I did the retreatment the dentist could get a better view of the condition of the tooth, i.e is it cracked. The dentist let me know that even after the retreatment there was a chance the tooth could become re-infected and at that time the only option would be to have the tooth extracted and replaced with an implant. I decided to do the most conservative and least expensive option first (360 degree e-ray, root canal retreatment, and crown came to about $1,100). The doctor said the procedure went great! Hopefully this will be the end of it. However, if a few years from now the tooth becomes re-infected and I have to have it removed I am still glad that I had a more conservative option I could take first. I don't want to lose any of my teeth even if I can get an implant. I am so thankful to Dr. Johnson because he gave me options to try that left the most radical thing as a last resort. He is also very friendly. The two weeks prior to seeing Dr. Johnson were very scary because I was in pain, I was in the process of moving, I had a lot of work to do, and I didn't want to have my tooth extracted, but I didn't think there was any other option. The office contacted her repeatedly during the weekend, including in the evening hours, and asked her to set up online banking access so they could see what she could put down. Once I became involved, the finance person and dentist stopped answering calls and did not respond to voicemails. She chose not to proceed and attempted to confirm she would not be charged; after that, communication stopped. She then received a $12,000 CareCredit charge, and the doctor was paid despite no surgery being performed by Aesthetic & Implant Dentistry of Atlanta. We are in an ongoing dispute with CareCredit/Synchrony, which has treated the charge as valid based on signed intake/treatment plan/financing documents, without confirming that the procedure actually took place through clinical documentation (for example: procedure notes, anesthesia record, extraction/implant charting, implant serial/lot numbers, radiographs taken day-of, dated post-op instructions, or other records tied to an actual date of service). I originally applied for a loan through their office for a procedure I specifically requested. After the loan was approved, I was later informed by Dr. Motoban that the procedure would no longer be possible. In spite of that, the finance company had already paid the office, and I was now obligated to repay the loan for a procedure I was no longer getting. When I requested that the loan be canceled in August, the office stopped responding. For nearly three months, they gave me the runaround and avoided assisting me in any way to rectify the situation. During this period, I was forced to pay on a loan I could not use, while the office refused to cooperate with the finance company to cancel it. My calls were screened, and messages were ignored by the office. I live an hour away, so the only way to get any type of response was to show up in person unannounced. I went into this process very insecure about my smile. They took advantage of that and knew it would fuel me to follow whatever they suggested in order to get approved for a higher loan limit. Once that higher loan was denied, they ceased all communication with me entirely. It wasn't until I began pursuing professional outside options that the office suddenly claimed everything had been an "oversight." What they refused to resolve for nearly four months, they completed in ten minutes once outside pressure was applied. When I finally went to the office in tears, the office manager's "NEW‼ assistant (Mrs. Morah) who had just started and was not involved in the earlier communication--showed genuine kindness and empathy toward me. I shared with her how this experience had terribly affected my credit. Sadly, Dr. Motoban refused to honor my cancellation request and even instructed her not to give me a receipt after I mentioned the possibility of legal action. I have since called his office twice and sent three text messages relating that the abscess had gotten larger and quite hard and the pain was much worse than before the extraction. The abscess is pressing on the tmj and nerves in my ear and jaw bone, creating pain that even prevents being able to keep my mouth closed. I conveyed that my body does not have a necessary enzyme required to convert tylenol #3 (codeine) into morphine; therefore, I am without pain medication. Dr. Gordon would not allow me to give him the history and progression of the tooth injury and resulting abscess. He said that I should only respond to questions he asked. He further chastised me during surgical prep and did not allow me to ask any questions about what he was prescribing. He left the surgical suite, and I had to get up and leave after a while because he nor his staff came to check on me. Prior to surgical prep, he assured me that he would call later that night to check on me. He did not and has not responded to any of my 5 communications where I am describing what is going on. I thought that I had an appointment with another dentist, but I was told that no dentist wanted to step in to "cover" another dentist. As a result, I am left in pain and concerned about how to effectively care for an oral abscess!

I was charged for a deep cleaning that was never done and sent home with no prescriptions or proper aftercare instructions. When I called to follow up, I was told I didn't need antibiotics or antibacterial mouthwash, yet I developed a fever for several days. I later had to go to my personal doctor to prescribe me antibiotics due to an infection, which left me with flu like symptoms for over a week! When I asked about pain management, I felt dismissed and judged instead of supported. I have a low pain tolerance and was only told to take Tylenol. Two days later, my stitches came loose, and my mouth remained painful. I called the office manager Norma back and was told I have a prescription to deal with my pain and when I got to the pharmacy I was prescribed AMOXICILLIN!!! The exact medicine I told them I had to be put on because of infection that was caused by the lack of care with this office. I thankfully was able to manage the pain I was experiencing but still after almost 2 weeks after surgery, I am dealing with pressure and pain throughout my face. I expected better communication, professionalism, and post-procedure care. I hope the office reviews its patient protocols to prevent this from happening to another patient.
