We previously had a different PCP doctor at the same clinic, Welch Road Pediatrics... and she was adequate. But when my daughter developed a life-threatening emergency (she ended up hospitalized for a few days), we came across Dr. Kim Harvey since our PCP wasn't available... and ever since then switched doctors and never looked back.
Dr. Harvey is friendly, upbeat, compassionate, efficient, intelligent, extremely competent, and an awesome diagnostician (I also find her funny, but YMMV). What I like about her most in addition to her competence is that she actually listens to my questions, and answers them... unlike other doctors who will partially listen to what I'm saying, and answer a question the doctor *thinks* I'm asking (very irritating behavior when you're looking for a very specific answer). Dr. Harvey also does not treat me like some over-reacting parent but treats me as someone who is very familiar with my child's condition, and values my observations (again, unlike the other doctor who just poo-pooed all my concerns, despite the fact I was concerned why my daughter was so susceptible to pneumonia after the 3rd time in 4 months...). Dr. Harvey never brushes off any question as minor, and answers them to my satisfaction, whether to correct my misunderstanding, or to affirm what I know. When she walks into the exam room, she is prepared with the general medical history of the patient and understands them correctly, unlike some others I've seen who doesn't bother to do this and tries to read up on the history on the fly, and get it wrong since the doctor is so rushed. She is also very thorough during the routine well-child checkups.
I've seen many doctors in my life, and even grew up among them (so I have no illusions with the fact there are good ones, and there are REALLY bad ones around), and I rate her as one of the best I've seen. I can't recommend her highly enough as your child's pediatrician. I feel so lucky that I came across her when I did, and the clinic allowed me to switch PCP. read more
