awful, awful man.
When I gave birth, I tore severely and was on a lot of pain medication. I had my daughter go to the nursery for four hours because I was feeling loopy and like I couldn't really hold her for fear of dropping her.
The next day, when he came to see us, I told him, "I'm so in love with her", when he asked how things are going. He then said, "if you love her so much, why did you send her away from you?"
Um, excuse me, but I didn't want to drop her on the ground!
He didn't believe the dates that my wonderful ob/gyn had given (told me I was wrong), so he didn't believe my daughter was preterm and didn't examine her ability to nurse (inability to nurse is very common in early babies).
Because she wasn't nursing right, she got severely dehydrated and jaundiced. When I went to see him and ask if she was nursing right, he kind of pulled back in disgust and said, "I don't know anything about that". (for those of you who don't know, pediatricians are supposed to be able to help a bit with nursing). He acted disgusted and bothered by me.
We rushed over to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation after we saw him and they admitted my daughter to the hospital.
He really let the ball drop and I'm glad I never had to see that man again.
Oh, and his office staff were sitting there gossiping and cussing while we were in the waiting room. Very unprofessional!
ETA: While the rude demeanor of the doctor turned me off, I was more concerned that he could give me NO advice concerning my daughter's issues with nursing, told me I was wrong when I told him she was born at 36w0d even though I had had ultrasounds as often as twice weekly throughout my high risk pregnancy, didn't notice her severe jaundice (bili levels were over 20), her inability to nipple a bottle and her severe dehydration.
Once we brought my daughter to the PAMF and she was admitted she ended up spending nearly a week in the NICU because she was so sick. I brought her to PAMF the same day I saw Dr. Taymor when he sent us on our way.
I believe in alternative medicine and understand that the typical model is way too invasive without appreciation of evidence based medicine, but I must say that the others who feel my review of 1 star (would give 0 if possible) is based on personality alone or because I was a first time mother are wrong. The review is based on personality combined with poor medical advice. read more
