Ice cream was just okay - not worth the high cost! The waffle cone was stale and seemed like it was made much earlier in the morning or the day before. Finally, the employee weighed the cone to make sure he didn't give away too much ice cream - this sends a bad message to the customer who is already paying $8 for an ice cream cone. read more

Stopped in for ice cream on the way back home. We were told this is the place to go for great ice cream, and we were told right. There are so many flavors to choose from, and they don't just have ice cream, there is also house made fudge that they make fresh, and more candies and chocolates to purchase. I ordered the sea salt chocolate Carmel ice cream in a dish and it was amazing. My husband ordered a cone of the Mackinac Island Fudge. Went in for some ice cream with the family while visiting them in the area. Ice cream is decent for being a smaller chain store across the country. You get a very generous amount for the sizes and I ended up going with two flavors. The coffee ice cream was a semi-letdown as it just didn't have that much coffee flavor but the black cherry was amazing. I regret not just getting a larger portion of that as it tasted so good and the black cherry chunks in it were full of flavor. A decent place in a pinch to grab some sweets. read more

Ice cream is "ok". This Spanish Springs location is a very charming area, with iron tables and chairs outside. Here's the issue: we were coming from Brownwood at 8:30pm. I called to ask what time they close - the answer given was 9pm. It was not fun rushing through the villages to get there... only to find out they close at 9:30pm. When we arrived at 8:50, rushing, not only were they not closing, they were super busy. And their posted closing hours indicated 9:30pm. The staff were clearly annoyed. Eye rolls, putting their head in their hands, starting to help - then asking someone else to finish helping you (or restart your order). And the ice cream is very expensive. If they are dishonest / not able to get closing times right, I'm not sure what other things they might not be doing. Maybe the kids wanted to close early to leave early? Maybe they are taking other liberties a food establishment should not be taking. This is a franchise - maybe an absentee owner at this location? At the end of the day, it's a good ice cream shop, and maybe we just came on an off night. Be prepared to spend a lot of money. read more

Kilwans is located on the Spanish Springs Square in the Villages (accessible to non-Villagers as well.) As soon as you walk in the amazing aroma of chocolate surrounds you. They have gift chocolates already prepackaged, a counter with fudge, various chocolate confections, and an ice cream counter. Everything was excellent! The staff is happy to assist you with whatever you need. As for the prices, they were a little high, but what isn't these days? I don't think it was too much higher than anywhere else. Three small cups of ice cream were ~$20. I sent my son back to get cherry cordials and fudge for Father's Day. If you love chocolate, this place is a must-visit! read more

Visited this store location while at the arts and crafts fair that was in the area. Noticed a Kilwins and ummm, yea you know I had to go and scope the place out to see if they have my peanut butter cups. They make the ABSOLUTE BEST peanut butter cups I've ever had!!! So thank me when you try and fall in love like I did :) This location is a smaller location than others I've been to, however they do have PLENTY to choose from. Staff greets you right when you walk in the door. They do have a small little seating area inside as well as 1 outside if I recall correctly. I did find myself a caramel candy and my daughter got a small box of valentines chocolate. Can't go wrong with anything from Kilwins. read more

We have had some negative experiences with this kilwins location in the past, but the last few times we've been here it has been under new management with new employees, who have been great! We went to Kilwin's @ The Villages - Spanish Springs tonight for an ice-cream and after waiting in line for over 15 minutes, we left. Not because of the wait but because employees do not know how to use gloves! One employee took cash and never changed gloves, then proceeded to serve everyone ice cream and even change out the big containers of ice cream after touching cash. The other employee wore one glove the whole time and 1 hand free but was touching cash with the gloved hand. The 3rd employee did not have gloves on and was serving people ice cream. Then took cash and was digging in the cash tip jar to make change, then went back to serving ice cream without gloves. Is this acceptable??? Very disappointing Kilwins do you not train employees to wear gloves and know when to change them? read more

We visited Kilwin's this weekend and they staff were very friendly and attentive. They offered us several samples and were very knowledgeable about all the different types of fudge and ice cream flavors they were serving. My husband got a cooler drink that was sorbet mixed with Sprite - a little funky and a bit too sweet but nice on a hot day. I opted for the Traverse City Cherry ice cream on a cake cone. It was so creamy and I love the chunks of real cherry throughout it. read more

No I don't like this place. Loathe being asked if I want fudge when I walk in and have no words for the can of Ready Whip for your ice cream. I do appreciate the calories on the ice cream flavors, I suppose, but none of the flavors I've tasted are to die for. I only go as there are a dearth of ice cream options in the Villages. Have been here a couple times and it's been great but tonight was a disaster. We got in line we asked for chocolate and our server said they were out. Then we asked for the cappuccino and our server said they were out, we walk forward to the front to see that there's a brand new tub of cappuccino out and I ask wait is that the cappuccino and another server rudely says "that one right there?" So then we get the cappuccino, are appalled at the service and as soon as they check us out they bring out a new tub of chocolate?!? I go back in to ask why they didn't inform us they had chocolate and they kept saying "well it was out at that time". Why not give us the option to wait for a new tub if they were going to bring it out right away. Such a huge selection of handmade confections! The fudge is fantastic and they have a great deal if you buy a certain amount you get a little free. Chose the milk chocolate, the dark chocolate and the peanut butter chocolate. Definitely some of the creamiest fudge I've had. They could use a few more non-dairy flavors and some more creative ice cream flavors - places like Leopold's in Savannah or Salt & Straw in Portland are much more creative. The prices are a bit high for a single scoop: $4.20 in a cup. Parking is excellent behind the building and there is a decent amount of seeting outside although none inside. read more

The ice cream is great!! Kilwins and scooples are our 2 favorite ice cream places in the villages! We always come back here! Kilwins is great for your classic ice cream cone/cup! Waffle cones/bowls are worth the extra cost & smell amazing as they are freshly made!! The little caramels they sell here are delicious & super cheap too! They have tons of flavors and I really loved the Greek yogurt option! Definitely come here if you want classic ice cream style in a delicious cone/cup with lots of flavors! Although I'm a big fan of Kilwin's and enjoy making a stop here whenever I'm in town to visit family, this trip was especially great given the wonderful customer service that was provided by Catalina and Keyla. The ladies were very attentive, friendly, and helpful. They were patient with answering any questions I had and about the gifts I purchased and wanted packaging for. Again, I've made a trip to Kilwin's nearly every time I've gone to The Villages, but because of their warmth, this was one of the most memorable. Kilwin's and this location specifically, are lucky to have these two ladies representing their brand. Did I mention the caramel-covered apples and other sweet treats were AMAZING? $9 for a toffee covered caramel apple??!? Highest price in the country! They said it was because "it takes 3 hours to cook their caramel". Insane price for a dumb reason, and there was barely any toffee pieces on it compared to any other store that sells caramel apples. Looked like a light dusting, and couldn't taste any toffee and didn't have any crunch to it. Extremely slow service also, even with 3 people working there. read more

Dang! This is the second kilwins I've been too now and the chocolate and goodies in the case are STALE! How do you have stale chocolate?! It tasted like it was sitting there for a few months...so disappointing. I tried two different creams and truffles, chocolate covered fruit slices, and a chocolate covered Oreo - all stale.
