Stopped in here for dinner on the way up to North Dakota. The place was busy for a Tuesday night, but we were seated promptly. Me and my friend both ordered the green chili with salmon Mac and cheese. It was most likely the best Mac and cheese dish I've ever had. The pasta was creamy with a spicy kick. This was complemented nicely with a generous piece of grilled salmon. As much as I tried, I was only able to eat about 2/3 of the dish. I had the rest cold, the following morning and it was almost as good! The only negative was the time it took to receive the check. Stopped for lunch here on way to scenic byway. We sat at bar as it was busy inside with hot weather. What a surprise, great beer selection and interesting menu. Started w the feta dip w sweet potato chips, yum! The veggie burger was one of the best that I had to finish it. My husband had the corn beef and cabbage that was amazing on how it was done. We picked Killian's based on all the raving reviews, and I guess this was a rare occasion when Yelp let us down. This place is open late (I think until 10pm), but that's pretty much the only positive that keeps me from giving it 1 star. We ordered a few burgers and some salads. Most our food came out very salty. The waitress messed up our order and brought a wrong burger. When we pointed that out, instead of taking the wrong order back, she disappeared for five minutes and came back with a piece of bacon and grilled cheese, and told us to use those to fix our burger. Another burger (shiitake) was unedible since mushrooms were soaked in a salty teriyaki sauce. Even deserts tasted off. Not sure if the kitchen just had a bad day, but we won't be back. read more

Found this restaurant on Yelp while on vacation and was a little disappointed. I would have given this a better rating if not for two issues. First when we were ready to pay the bill they informed us that the credit card machine was not working we could pay cash or we could give them the credit card information and they would write it down and charge us when it started working. I was not comfortable leaving anyone with my credit card information, thankfully I had enough cash. This should have been shared with all customers when they sat down, credit card machine is down. Second issue there were only three tables with people and the server was more interested in talking with the staff than checking on the tables so we had to wait frequently or get up and find the waitress when something was needed. I ordered a burger and it was excellent. Great bun, juicy burger, and excellent toppings. Excellent burger. I would recommend the burger if you are in the area. I also got the sweet potato chips which are like potato chips, they were chewy and not good at all. I would not recommend them. read more

We liked this place despite the fact that the food wasn't anything special and the live music was terrible. But Killian's Tavern has a nice, laid-back vibe, friendly service and reasonable prices. We had the highly touted Steak Tips, which we found to be just okay, and a cheeseburger with fresh-cut fries (the burger was also just okay, a bit overcooked). The live music, a duo that sounded like The Shins out of tune, were annoying, but the crowd -- a mix of Black Hills tourists and locals -- and atmosphere, wood and stone, heavy on the bicycles, was relaxing. I don't know why I've never seen this on a menu before - AMAZING!! my husband is and ordered the Thai Curry Noodles with shrimp. He said the sauce was delicious. While I needed help from our waitress and ordered the Cowboy Classic burger. She said they were kind of known for the burgers - so I had to try it. For sure, it did not disappoint. It was so juicy and cooked to perfection . The BBQ sauce was on the sweet side so it was a great contrast with the burger. What a great find! If it wasn't for Yelp, we would have never found this place as it is not on the main drag of downtown Spearfish and the outside is not the most inviting looking. They have a great selection of beer, wine, and cocktails and their menu is great. We ordered a curried noodle dish, burger, steak tips, and sherry berry salad. Everything was very tasty and homemade. We even got fresh baked bread with an herbed butter to start. If I am ever back in the area, I will definitely stop by again as this was one of the best meals we had on our entire vacation. WE LOVED this place. Best food we've had since we left California. Hungry for fresh vegetables and healthy food, we headed over to Killian's after taking a look at the menu. We split an arugula salad with Caesar dressing, which was a great start. Our shared meal came with a cup of the soup of the day, which was creamy potato - another winner. Our entree - which was shared and enough for two - was the chicken medallions with shrimp, bacon and a cheese sauce served over spinach. My dining companion loved the tender chicken while I couldn't get enough of the side we chose - butter braised caulilini. Our meal was excellent and our server was attentive and accommodating, making sure we had extra plates and utensils to share the meal with. We recommend this place to anyone who wants good, healthy food at a reasonable price. read more

Absolutely fabulous!!! We had the best meal we've had in months here! I had a spicy Bloody Mary to start with the brussel sprouts and and artichokes. They were really done great. The Bloody Mary was excellent! For the main dish I had corned beef and cabbage with the mashed potatoes and it was seasoned perfectly. My daughter had the jalapeño portabella burgers do my son in law had the shrimp dinner. Both were very tasty. Another guy had the lobster roll and it was the only dish that wasn't excellent but it was okay. It just couldn't hold a candle to the other dishes. It's also dog friendly seating on the patio area. From the road it doesn't look inviting, but after getting inside this restaurant/bar was very cozy. The walls were lined with a variety of bikes. A large fireplace stove warmed the room from the center. The menu had quite a interesting selection of appetizers that sounded great. The selection of other meals was eclectic too. My group all ordered different burgers with fries. The server also brought us a sample bowl of the sweet potato fried chips and they were very good. My burger with Gouda and jalapeños was amazing. It was the juiciest hand pattied burger I've had in years and not because it was under cooked either. My two guests were also blown away by their burgers. The French fries were also very good and were skin on thinner steak fries. They also had an awesome selection of craft beers on draft. I'd highly recommend eating here. read more

My husband and I are from indiana visiting. We loved Killian's. We started with the wings and did half Parmesan and half hot wings. The wings stood out to us because they had Parmesan crumbles on one half and blue cheese crumbles on the other. I got the steak tips, which were in a zesty gravy like sauce, which was amazing. Then he got the brisket dip with their sweet potato fries. Our services was excellent and the drinks were great! Needless to say this place we highly recommend. This was my second time eating at Killian's, and it was just as good as the first time! My husband and I took my in-laws here for a birthday dinner for my mother-in-law. We first tried another restaurant but they had a very long wait, so we suggested Killian's because of our previous experience. We were greeted by the host, Keegan. He was very friendly and gave us our choice of 2 different seating options, letting us know that there would be a large party near one of them in case we were worried about noise levels. As he was seating us at our table a booth opened up, and he asked if we wanted to move to the booth instead. We declined, but we really appreciated how accommodating and professional he was! Our server was Maisie, and she was absolutely wonderful! She was friendly and very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. She checked on us often and made eye contact any time she walked by in case we needed anything. I feel like I'm underselling her, here, because I was left with such an impressed opinion of her! Everything else about the restaurant impresses. The decor is a little "modern rustic" and eclectic, with bicycles adorning rough-hewn plank walls, and the atmosphere was lively. All staff was friendly and busy; there was no one just standing idly by, and everyone seemed to be watching for any guest that might need something. Even the GM was pitching in. The menu is a wonderful mix of the familiar (chicken wings) and the exotic (frog legs), and everything seems elevated. Several dishes are served with house-made components, like their pickled jalapenos and tomato jam. They have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options if that's your thing. The beer list is extensive, with something for every beer and cider lover, and their wine list is pretty decent, too. My father-in-law's first beer was the last one of the keg, and they didn't charge him for it; nice touch! The only - ONLY - negative I would mention is that the specials were listed on a chalkboard that was placed on the floor in the vestibule. It was easily missed, and Maisie didn't mention the specials; as we were leaving, we saw they had a mussels appetizer special that we would definitely have tried!
