Steak Tips - but asked that they be prepared Chislic style - and they did. Tender meat with a side of steamed broccoli just as we like it. Super nice and efficient bartender. We stopped here last night on our road trip through the state. Pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything was! We got the Brussels sprouts and the steak tips to start. The steak tips were DELICIOUS!!! Could have even gotten bread and used the remainder of the sauce for dipping. They sure do love bacon here! No complaints on my end either. For dinner we ordered the chicken bacon tortellini with feta and a spinach strawberry pistachio salad--we chose to do 1/2 spinach and 1/2 mixed greens. It was perfect! They have outdoor dining which was a plus. It was a beautiful evening and we enjoyed the fresh air. Our server was delightful, she had a very sincere smile & welcoming personality. We were in Spearfish SD while passing through the area. Restaurant was busy. Friendly greeting. We had to wait a short time. We were seated. Then we waited. Had plenty of time to look around. Fairly clean. As I mentioned it was a busy Friday night. Then we waited some more. Our server finally arrived. We asked for water as we had been out at the street fair. The server was very pleasant. Then we waited and waited for our water. I joked to my wife that our server must be going down to the river to fill a bucket with water. Our server finally reappeared, gave us our water and took our orders. I had the corned beef plate and the wife had the kale Cesar salad with chicken. Then our server disappeared again. After a long wait the food showed up. It was excellent!!! Loved the food. Service was not so good. Management might need to step up training. Other people had been seated, gotten their food and finished before ours showed up. But the food was good. Maybe the server was having a bad night. Who knows. After a long day of traveling we were looking for a local establishment to support. Killian's fit the bill. It was close to our hotel and seemed to have good reviews. So glad we decided to stop here! Started off with a slow down margarita and an old baldy. Both were tasty. Then we ordered the brisket sandwich and a bowl of bison chili to split between the two of us. Delicious!! While staying in Spearfish we asked some locals for a good place to eat. It was suggested to come here and order their Steak Tip Carbonnares dinner which I did. It was a great suggestion, they were tender and delicious sauteed in a cajun garlic bacon sauce. Kim had the Shrimp Pesto Pommodoro which she enjoyed very much. We had a great dinner at Killian's during our trip to Spearfish. We shared each others dinners so we could get a better sampling of Killian's capabilities. The Bison Chili was rich and had mild heat. The Lemon Pepper Shrimp and Veggies was a fresh, beautiful plate and full of flavor. The Veggie Bowl was also an attractive, colorful plate. Its flavors blended very well. Stopped in here for dinner on the way up to North Dakota. The place was busy for a Tuesday night, but we were seated promptly. Me and my friend both ordered the green chili with salmon Mac and cheese. It was most likely the best Mac and cheese dish I've ever had. The pasta was creamy with a spicy kick. This was complemented nicely with a generous piece of grilled salmon. As much as I tried, I was only able to eat about 2/3 of the dish. I had the rest cold, the following morning and it was almost as good! The only negative was the time it took to receive the check. I believe our server was pulled into bartender duty, so I think she just forgot about settling our bill. read more

Found this restaurant on Yelp while on vacation and was a little disappointed. I would have given this a better rating if not for two issues. First when we were ready to pay the bill they informed us that the credit card machine was not working we could pay cash or we could give them the credit card information and they would write it down and charge us when it started working. I was not comfortable leaving anyone with my credit card information, thankfully I had enough cash. This should have been shared with all customers when they sat down, credit card machine is down. Second issue there were only three tables with people and the server was more interested in talking with the staff than checking on the tables so we had to wait frequently or get up and find the waitress when something was needed. I ordered a burger and it was excellent. Great bun, juicy burger, and excellent toppings. Excellent burger. I would recommend the burger if you are in the area. I also got the sweet potato chips which are like potato chips, they were chewy and not good at all. I would not recommend them. read more

We liked this place despite the fact that the food wasn't anything special and the live music was terrible. But Killian's Tavern has a nice, laid-back vibe, friendly service and reasonable prices. We had the highly touted Steak Tips, which we found to be just okay, and a cheeseburger with fresh-cut fries (the burger was also just okay, a bit overcooked). The live music, a duo that sounded like The Shins out of tune, were annoying, but the crowd -- a mix of Black Hills tourists and locals -- and atmosphere, wood and stone, heavy on the bicycles, was relaxing. we found this place on the app. Came and were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too busy given the amount of people around town. Brussel sprouts had amazing flavor although not crispy in case you like that method. Burgers were mouthwatering perfect! Great fries. Good beer,, good sangria and the atmosphere was perfect after a busy day of park sightseeing. Small patio with some shade if that is what you are looking for. We picked Killian's based on all the raving reviews, and I guess this was a rare occasion when Yelp let us down. This place is open late (I think until 10pm), but that's pretty much the only positive that keeps me from giving it 1 star. We ordered a few burgers and some salads. Most our food came out very salty. The waitress messed up our order and brought a wrong burger. When we pointed that out, instead of taking the wrong order back, she disappeared for five minutes and came back with a piece of bacon and grilled cheese, and told us to use those to fix our burger. Another burger (shiitake) was unedible since mushrooms were soaked in a salty teriyaki sauce. Even deserts tasted off. Not sure if the kitchen just had a bad day, but we won't be back. read more

I don't know why I've never seen this on a menu before - AMAZING!! my husband is and ordered the Thai Curry Noodles with shrimp. He said the sauce was delicious. While I needed help from our waitress and ordered the Cowboy Classic burger. She said they were kind of known for the burgers - so I had to try it. For sure, it did not disappoint. It was so juicy and cooked to perfection . The BBQ sauce was on the sweet side so it was a great contrast with the burger. What a great find! If it wasn't for Yelp, we would have never found this place as it is not on the main drag of downtown Spearfish and the outside is not the most inviting looking. They have a great selection of beer, wine, and cocktails and their menu is great. We ordered a curried noodle dish, burger, steak tips, and sherry berry salad. Everything was very tasty and homemade. We even got fresh baked bread with an herbed butter to start. If I am ever back in the area, I will definitely stop by again as this was one of the best meals we had on our entire vacation. WE LOVED this place. Best food we've had since we left California. Hungry for fresh vegetables and healthy food, we headed over to Killian's after taking a look at the menu. We split an arugula salad with Caesar dressing, which was a great start. Our shared meal came with a cup of the soup of the day, which was creamy potato - another winner. Our entree - which was shared and enough for two - was the chicken medallions with shrimp, bacon and a cheese sauce served over spinach. My dining companion loved the tender chicken while I couldn't get enough of the side we chose - butter braised caulilini. Our meal was excellent and our server was attentive and accommodating, making sure we had extra plates and utensils to share the meal with. Absolutely fabulous!!! We had the best meal we've had in months here! I had a spicy Bloody Mary to start with the brussel sprouts and and artichokes. They were really done great. The Bloody Mary was excellent! For the main dish I had corned beef and cabbage with the mashed potatoes and it was seasoned perfectly. My daughter had the jalapeño portabella burgers do my son in law had the shrimp dinner. Both were very tasty. Another guy had the lobster roll and it was the only dish that wasn't excellent but it was okay. It just couldn't hold a candle to the other dishes. It's also dog friendly seating on the patio area. From the road it doesn't look inviting, but after getting inside this restaurant/bar was very cozy. The walls were lined with a variety of bikes. A large fireplace stove warmed the room from the center. The menu had quite a interesting selection of appetizers that sounded great. The selection of other meals was eclectic too. My group all ordered different burgers with fries. The server also brought us a sample bowl of the sweet potato fried chips and they were very good. My burger with Gouda and jalapeños was amazing. It was the juiciest hand pattied burger I've had in years and not because it was under cooked either. My two guests were also blown away by their burgers. The French fries were also very good and were skin on thinner steak fries. They also had an awesome selection of craft beers on draft. I'd highly recommend eating here. read more
