I'd heard on the make-up (rumour) mill that Kiko Milano was opening in Glasgow. The only 2 things I knew about them was they were an Italian brand and that their cosmetics are not tested on animals. All good so far...popped in last Sunday afternoon for a wee swatch at their goodies and I was quite impressed with the shop and layout as it was nice and bright with everything at the sides of the shop and a few bargain items in the middle section. I don't know if this shop is *always* busy but it certainly was pretty heaving on Sunday. At first it made it quite difficult to actually have a good look and test (on the back my hand of course!) the products out as I found myself waiting to get near the eyeshadows/lipsticks/foundation. There was a LOT of women trying the make up on...as in actually putting the whole shebang on their faces like they were popping in here quickly before a night out...it's bad enough when I have to wrestle (not literally...well, not all the time) teenage girls to get near the make up stands in Boots!
I must admit I was a bit surprised at the prices of the make up. I don't know why but I hadn't expected them to be quite so expensive. They're not mega expensive but average price for a lipstick is about £10 and foundation about £15, although some are nearly £20. Now as anyone who knows me knows I LOVE my make up, its not something I scrimp on or even waste time/money on if the quality isn't good but luckily nowadays you can find really great make up products that don't cost a lot of money. I don't earn mega dollaz but because I wanted to really try out this brand I bought a lipstick (£10.90) and an eyeshadow (£2.90, reduced from £5.90) that was reduced in their sale. The eyeshadow was nice, not as highly pigmented as I would've expected but still pretty good. The lipstick I bought came in a really cool bullet; you push a wee button on the bottom and it kinda pings the lipstick out but (un)fortunately not so forcefully as to damage someone with it, haha! I was a bit disappointed with the lipstick...it also wasn't nearly as highly pigmented/rich as I would've expected/liked it to be. Also the colour looked really quite different to the one I tested in the shop when I got it home and put it on...so I was a bit sad about that. One plus point was however the smell & taste of the lipstick ~ really nice! It's always a nice wee bonus when make up smells good. Didn't really get a chance to try out the foundations as it was too busy and when I had a quick look they all seemed way too David Dickinson for my complexion! So, they're great for darker skin tones but maybe not so for us paler laydees...unless all the paler shades had just sold out? Their range of shades of eyeshadows was really good and they had a nice selection of lipstick shades too but unfortunately not many in the Matte range which is what I prefer.
Nice shop and nice cosmetics but I'm not sure I would rush back. read more
