Prawn appetizer also flavorful. Bread is wonderful. My companion had the baked fish special and he said it was good and fresh, but very plain in it's preparation. This is a good restaurant choice if you want a nice dinner (something different maybe), but didn't make reservations at any of the hot restaurants in the center. Decor is a bit old and tired. Waitress was in a t-shirt and jeans. I would return for sure.

Actually, I think the slightly cheesy décor sort of has it charms. They have a good selection of Portuguese wines, so start off with some vinho verde and sample an array of tasty starters. The cod fritters were some of the best I've had. Mains: meat for the carnivores and plenty of seafood dishes for the pescetarians. Vegetarians are S.O.L. Portuguese staple Bacalhau (salted cod fish) is well represented, but instead I went for a stew with monk fish and cockles. The grilled sword fish steak of my dinner date was definitely a treat. Earlier, we tried some of their specialties: the pork and Chanfana lamb stew. Both were good!. The lamb came in a reduce red wine sauce with black olives and potatoes and if I remember correctly, the pork was a crackling suckling pig with orange sauce that satisfied my every juicy pig fat needs. If you won't try dinner at Portugalia, at least just visit for the Molotov dessert! A massive airy whiteness that jiggles when they bring it to your table. At first sight, it looks quite intimidating, especially after having pigged out on mains before. But don't be fooled. When you dive into that fluffy egg white soufflé drizzled with the best caramel sauce ever!, the dreamy mountain of clouds will have jiggled it's way right into your tummy before you ever knew what hit you. It's like eating air. Air that's makes your pants fit a little bit tighter...

At every course and wine he took the time to talk to us and explain what we were having and some background information. We started off with bread, oil and tapenade of chickpeas and paprika. First course was an octopus terrine with some coquilles and shrimp, which was very good. For main course I had neck of lamb and my wife had the liver. The liver was fantastic. Very tender and succulent. The lamb was great too. The desserts were disappointing. My sweet rice was nice but not special and my wife's chocolate mousse and cake were too bitter for her taste. The wines were very good. I had a vino verde and a red douro. With dessert I had a very nice muscatel, not too sweet. I would give it 4 1/2 stars.
