I ordered the patacones picantes, which is two patties of fried green plantain topped with delicious steak, onions and tomatoes. It was on the starter menu but it was big enough for a nice lunch. Open since 2012, clearly the locals know about it - everyone here besides me is speaking Spanish. Definitely give this little place a chance - it's great!

The bread was too thick for the proportions and those that got it couldn't agree if it should have been crispier or softer, but both agreed it could be improved. The chicharrones were better than the one I've had at Tropico, in Amsterdam. Nice. Everyone else was stuffed, so they ended up getting different kinds of arepa -- I ended up getting the tamal, which is similar to a Mexican tamalé but bigger and with more variation of what's inside. This one had pork belly and chicken, and came with a side of rice. It was pretty good, but could've used some more salt, I suspect. Portions are huge!
