Kidsignments is a huge consignment sale at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. It only takes place TWICE per year - in February and August. Make sure you visit the website for more info - or find someone who has survived the madness before to guide you through your first experience here.
Packed into a massive warehouse-type space are thousands of kid-related items, from maternity clothes to baby swings to toys and books and games. Clothing is available for preemies up through juniors. People line up outside as early as 5:30 a.m. with wagons, rolling trash cans, or luggage as their make-shift shopping carts. You can find some amazing deals and steals...but only venture out to this sale if you are capable of being patient, can deal with people encroaching on your personal bubble, and don't mind digging through a bunch of crap to find the gems.
My experience was pretty good - I only went on the last day of the sale, so obviously the selection was more limited. But on the last day many items are 50% off the already-low prices. I paid $0.50-$4.00 for everything from cute maternity jeans to parenting books to an adorable little coat for my baby-in-waiting. I was fortunate to go with a friend who has survived these sales in the past, and who waited in the long line to get in and let me join her at a more reasonable hour.
The sale is VERY well organized, but with hundreds of people - mostly moms - it does get crowded and the line to check out gets long. I think I waited around 45 minutes to check out. But considering the savings, and the fact this is a special event and not a regular thrift store, I'd say it was worth it. In spite of the craziness and the crowds, I do plan on going back in February to score more awesome deals. read more
