Wonderful place for a toddler birthday party. Even the older kids had a great time and the staff is amazing. I didn't have to do a thing.

I can't say enough about Aikido of Westchester. Not only is the instruction absolutely top-notch,…read morebut the atmosphere that Douglas and Sylvie Firestone have created is extremely positive and encouraging. The aikido instruction is serious, but there is a good deal of humor mixed into the classes too. This leads to a very relaxed and friendly training session. Some of the more advanced students will also teach at times. This is very helpful because most of them have also trained elsewhere and, therefore, bring their acquired knowledge to the class I can honestly say that I've learned something from all of my training partners. Even if it was just a suggestion on how to hold my hands during a technique, I filed it away for future reference. Though you will be encouraged to practice the techniques that are taught, you will NEVER be encouraged to do anything that will aggravate any injuries that you may have. Care is always taken to keep everyone safe, and techniques can be modified somewhat to accommodate any injuries. Just for some background, I have been a student at Aikido of Westchester since July of 2015, but I've been associated with the dojo for several years since my father-in-law started attending. My sons are also students here. They love it. Finally, I will say that, wherever I may find myself in the future, Aikido of Westchester will always be my home dojo. I intend to practice aikido for as long as I am able to, and that is due in large part to the teachers, students, and atmosphere at Aikido of Westchester.

Post Covid emergencies, this dojo remains top notch. The community is respectful, talented,…read morepleasant and healthy. Families are still welcomed, encouraged and treated well. Looks like they've grown a bit too. I recommended this dojo to a retired Air Force person. He loves it. Best of all, when it comes to the Aikido world, this dojo is peaceful and warm. Ownership is responsive and humane. Can you tell, I really like this place? . If you wanna learn Aikido or Battodo, give them a go.

Carlos is an incredible coach with extensive experience fighting and coaching fighters and students…read moreof all levels. I have learned so much from studying under him. No matter what level you start at with Carlos, he makes you feel like you belong and helps you see your potential to become even better. Everybody at the gym is really positive and friendly. It's a beautiful training space too.

I am a woman that has trained under Carlos for about 6 years. I love his gym and the way he trains…read morehis students. He is a talented coach that puts his all into his fighters. I have NEVER felt disrespected as a woman in his gym, I was always treated as an equal. I think what he is trying to do for men's mental health is a must needed. The reason he does not want to coach women fighters is NOT because he is a "misogynist pig", the reason he has chosen not to train female fighters is because the strain that a human body is put under when preparing for a fight is very harsh. The process can affect our ability to carry a child in the future, it effects our periods and the constant hits to our bodies can affect our bones in a very negative way which we would especially feel after going through menopause. Women now days do have a lot of different "outlets", whereas men do not have as many "outlet" opportunities and definitely need them (just look at men's mental health). He has stated in many of his videos that he hates how in other gyms, women have been used solely as a "sale" for the gym by using photos of hot women, instead of just focusing on the fighters (be men or women). Carlos has the kindest sole for humans and has often trained people for free if they have not been able to pay. He has helped countless amounts of men from killing themselves by being there for them. He has given fighters an opportunity to fight and grow. He has done so much for the Muay thai community and has a gift for teaching it. His wording in his videos may be misleading of what he is trying to say and English is not his first language, but if you actually sit down with him and talk to him you may actually understand what he is really trying to say.

I bring my niece here for sports skills class as well as the open gym time. Obviously, I can not…read morespeak about the instruction in the Tae Kwon Do classes, as she is not old enough for them yet- but if they are anything like the instruction they provide towards younger children, I'm sure they are excellent classes. For anyone with younger children, I would DEFINITELY check out their open gym time to get a feel for the place. The facility is extremely clean and well-run, the equipment is in excellent condition, and I am conststantly impressed with how professional, creative, and genuinely happy to be there the instructors are- from Master Chung himself down, they all seem to LOVE teaching skills to children. (And not in a cheesy way!) I would definitely recommend the sports skills class to anyone with a child in the 2.5-5 year range. My niece is learning so much and becoming so much more confident in her abilities. Unlike other similar classes I've observed at other locations, Bruce Chung's makes sure that all the children in the class are engaged, with minimal time just sitting around waiting their turn. VERY pleased with this class!
