We love this place! It's really easy to make an appointment over the phone. Everyone is also very nice and welcoming. Today my son's hair was styled by Jay, and she was incredible!!! She is very patient (my son is still a fighter when it comes to getting his haircuts) but somehow Jay was capable of getting his hair done perfectly despite all the resisting. She was also very understanding, seeing how much my son wouldn't sit still, she tried the best she could to help him stop moving and helping her get the job done quicker. I'm genuinely confused how a business that specifically markets itself as a kids' haircut place can create such an unwelcoming environment for children. There are warning signs posted all over the place telling parents and kids what NOT to do: "Keep your children in playing area until it's their turn," "Parents do not allow your children to play with the cars," "Do not play with! Must purchase toy to play with toy!!!" and even "Your habits are a reflection of you... clean up and pick up after yourself!" Seriously? This is a children's hair salon, not a museum. Of course parents should supervise their children, and nobody should expect kids to destroy things or leave a huge mess. But there is a massive difference between having reasonable rules and covering a kids' business with aggressive, handwritten warning signs. The entire atmosphere feels like children are an inconvenience rather than the customers the business is supposedly designed for. The toy sign was especially ridiculous. You're surrounded by colorful toys and things that obviously attract children's attention, but then there's a giant sign basically saying DON'T TOUCH UNLESS YOU BUY IT. Then the haircut cars--which are one of the main things that make a kids' haircut place exciting--have another sign warning parents not to let their kids play with them. Kids are curious. They touch things. They want to explore. That's exactly why parents bring them to a place specifically designed for children instead of a regular barbershop or salon. If you need this many signs reminding parents to control their kids, keep them contained, keep them away from the cars, keep them from touching toys, and clean up after themselves, maybe running a business centered around young children isn't the best fit. I came expecting a fun, welcoming place where kids could feel comfortable getting a haircut. Instead, the signs make the place feel hostile, tacky, and irritated by the very children it's supposed to serve. Definitely not the kid-friendly atmosphere I expected, and I wouldn't come back. read more

Been eyeing this place for a while but my kids hair don't really grow so we never considered a kids barbershop. But since my son had his picture day, we took him here. Love the options of cars for the little ones, but once they start the haircut, the entire car is covered by the cape. Appointment is required and CASH only. If you have kiddoes who likes buying candy and toys, bring extra cash because my second trip to Kids Styles, a boy did well on his haircut and on the way out, threw the biggest tantrum because he wanted to buy something. The ladies that cut my son's hair were all really nice and tried their best even though my son had such a rough experience the second time. Mainly because I had to wake him up from a nap. Been coming here for my son's haircut for the last year and It has been great each time. I've been here for my son's haircut since he was 10 months and he has already 4 haircuts here. I've had different stylist each time since I don't have a preference who cuts it as of now and they all did it very well. They were all patient since my son cried during his haircut. I've taken my kids here a couple of times and usually have a good experience but unfortunately this last time it wasn't. The lady that cut my daughter's hair was very rough with her. I don't know her name but she has red hair and is maybe in her 50s. I asked her if she could put something in my kids hair so it didn't pull as much and she seemed bothered by it. Didn't really have any patience with my kid, they're kids they're going to move a little and not stay completely still. And overall the haircut looks bad. One side is longer than the other and there's a lot of random pieces sticking out. Sad to say but I probably won't be back especially for the price I would expect a little more. read more

This second time was just horrible I paid 28 dollars per child for them to cut my daughters hair in literally 5 minutes they left it so uneven I also asked the stylist if she could do a braid on my daughters hair she straight up told me I don't have enough experience to do that ! I am so happy that I stumbled across this kids salon for my son. My son was visiting with grandma so I needed to find a salon close to her. Well if you're in the El Monte area or close to it I highly recommend this place for children cuts. My mother said that Patty was very good with my son and that he responded well to her. It is definitely hard taking a toddler to get their hair cut. My boyfriend normally takes him to whichever barber shop has an opening but they charge us an arm and leg for a child's cut also. Here I feel the price was great and the service was excellent. It is cash only so be sure to take that money honey lol but all in all the atmosphere was very kid friendly, the service was wonderful and price was only 22 for his haircut. Ask for Patty and you will not be disappointed. I have posted some before and after pictures of my son. I LOVE this place! I've never came to something like this before and my son loves it here! We would go to a regular hair salon and it was nice but my son was always stressed and never wanted to go. This place made him love haircuts. He got to watch his favorite show and play in a race car. He loves cars so this was theme park status for him. He's 3 so he had an incredible time. I'm impressed with the effort this place puts into their business for kids. Their clippers are low noise if not silent and each chair has its own tv to personalize the experience for every kid. My son was able at that time, to pick his own car and he did get kind of fussy and want to switch at one point and our stylist was very kind and let him. They have many affordable snack options, toys and various things for kids. Great experience we are coming here from now on when we are in the area. read more

Called this place to ask if they cut and have experience with curly hair. They said yes. I asked if they can do a dry cut they said yes. Long story short my son left this place with a horrible haircut that is going to take a year to grow back. I am very upset, they had zero experience with curly hair or how to even start. We took our 16 month old son to a different place for his first haircut, and he screamed the entire time. This time we thought we'd give Kids Styles a try since they specialize in kids. Sophia cut his hair and she was amazing and so patient! Since my son was too nervous to sit in one of the car chairs by himself, she let me hold him in my lap during the haircut and put on Ms. Rachel and Elmo for him to watch. He cried for the first 5 minutes, but to my surprise, he was completely fine after that! He let Sophia cut his hair without any complaining or protest, and the haircut turned out soooo cute. Thank you Yuri for your patience and understanding when it came to making sure my sons haircut went as smooth as possible every time. If you didn't know, Yuri is the owner, she's great when it comes to giving my boy his haircut. The location is very clean, the kids chairs are awesome and they keep the kids entertained (even though Ryan's toy review is annoying, haha) as they get their haircut. With everything going on since the shutdown, I'm glad Kids Styles survived. read more
