Here's the thing- I don't have an issue with this place. Sheri and Gabby are great. Today I got there at 9 because we didn't make an appointment and we were assigned the lady with the blonde hair. I was straight forward- length on top stays and buzz around the sides- just a simple clean-up. It's the same hair he had and has consistently gotten there. She took the scissors out and I AGAIN emphasized "length in the top and front need to stay". Next thing I know she had given my son Lord Farquaad bangs and I asked her what she was doing. She insisted this was texturizing to give him a "hipster" look I never asked for. I again- never asked her to trim his hair. She.Just.kept.cutting... and I almost cried and her response was "it'll look great when you put gel in it. He's 3 - we rarely put gel in his hair. This is the end result. It's awful and this is now our holiday pageant and Christmas picture hair so shout out to the blonde lady there for not just listening. We love kid cuts and have been coming here since our first haircut 7 yrs ago. The only downside is it's a bit expensive to come for a short boys haircut (often) . But overall we always live how our kiddos hair looks afterwards so we keep coming. They did not follow what I asked them to do (I wanted to keep my son's hair long and just give it some shape and clean it up, but even though I explained this they still cut it very short). The cuts for both of my sons were terrible, (done by two different people). The side burns and behind the ears were trimmed very crooked and uneven, see photo. First of all, I just want to say that Carmen was very nice and gave my son a decent haircut. I would book an appointment with her again, only somewhere else. My son is 8 years old and the price for haircuts for 5-10 year old boys is listed at $26 dollars. When I went to pay, the woman named Ray who might also be the owner or manager, charged me $35 dollars. When I asked why, she barely even looked at me and said, "because he has so much hair." Nowhere on the menu does it say anything about an extra charge for more hair. My son's hair was not long to start out with and Carmen used clippers for most of the cut. She didn't even wash his hair, she just spritzed it with water. We were there for 15 minutes total. Carmen was very sweet but not sweet enough for me to return. read more

She did a very strange and high line across the back of his head as a bottom line. Seems like she made a mistake and tried to cover it up. Botched his adorable baby hair and didn't even apologize. She also didn't even try to be nice to him when we arrived and put him in the chair. He was upset the entire time. Will not be back. Awful experience; shamed my daughter for having curly and brown hair, painful, and extremely rude. 2 bad experiences not just one. This time we went in for a few colorful streaks, which is a service advertised on their website. When I called ahead to make the appt, the person I spoke with sounded like she knew what she was doing. But the stylist did not. The stylist was rude as soon as we walked in, pulled a dirty brush through my daughter's curly hair- dry!- then when it got snagged said "it's because she goes in a pool." A, it's Southern California so yes she goes in a pool; B, any stylist should know that you can't brush curly hair when it's dry. If you do, it snags and hurts; C, Lice is going around Encinitas schools. clean the brush between customers. Then, when I asked about pre-bleaching my daughter's brown hair before adding the colorful streak, the stylist replied "there's no way I know what color it will be until after." (And didn't bleach it even though asked.) This makes no sense. I'm not a stylist, yet even I know that you can't overdye brown hair with light blue. So the stylist didn't pre-bleach, the blue streaks ended up looking dark greenish + barely visible, and then to make it worse the stylist tried to charge me the price I had been pre-quoted For double process- beach + dye - when all she did was single process, aka paint some blue stuff in my daughter's hair. Total waste of 40 and also my kid is upset. I could've done this myself with a pot of manic panic. I wouldn't post this except that it's the 2nd awful experience we've had here. Last time, she got a super choppy, uneven, painful haircut during which the same thing happened- they were not nice about her hair. They said it was "too dry" (again- its curtly- curly hair IS a little dry. That's just part of having curly hair) and then proceeded to chop maybe 8 inches off. Curly hair takes longer to show the length when growing back, so a full year later it still isn't the same length as before. For the record she has gorgeous, long shiny curly hair- she gets compliments routinely. it's just not blonde / SoCal hair. If you have curly or maybe even just not blonde/straight hair, stay away. At best they butcher it- at worst butcher plus body shame. Not worth it. Go somewhere else or just do it yourself. Sure- the hair grown back. But the body shaming sticks forever. read more

I finally promised my husband I would not take any of our 3 boys (ages 1-5 years old) to kids kuts after a string of terrible haircuts. The kids like going there because there are fun seats (fire trucks, trains etc) to sit it, but they ALWAYS get terrible haircuts. By far the worst haircut my sons every received. He's 6 and does very well. He doesn't move and he listens. But somehow this lady couldn't even do a straight line for his sideburns or the back of his hair. I asked for a fade and she did one length. He has a rat tail and she must have feared it because she took random chunks out around it.... nothing was even. If I could give a zero I would. To be clear - my son does not have a particularly difficult head of hair, either. He has short, straight hair. All I asked this woman to do was trim up the sides, take just a little off the top and even things out. She did not use clippers (did the entire thing with scissors), and my sons hair is an absolute mess. Various lengths in various areas. And way too short over the top. Some Quick Pro-Tips: (1) It's worthwhile to make an appointment in advance, especially on weekends as this place can get pretty chaotic; (2) Stop by an ATM- they only take cash. (If you bank at Wells Fargo, there's an ATM just across the parking lot); and (3) Utilize the post-haircut lollipop to appease your little one while you do a quick Home Goods run. I'm really not the type to complain but, this needed to be said if you are considering taking your kids here. My wife fairly recently came in to get our 7-year-old son and daughter's hair cut. The woman, we think the owner, said she was short-staffed (she was the only one working) and that she would cut their hair. She only spent maybe 10 mins on my son's hair..... rushing through it because half the time she was answering the phones, in the end, it looks terrible because she was rushed....which was $30 wasted. That was only the beginning, my wife then asked for my daughter's hair that she ONLY cut maybe 2 inches, no more.....she took off at least 5 inches!!! And no my wife did not see her do it because the hairdresser immediately braided my daughter's hair so it was hard to see what she did until today. She had hair down to the middle of her back before she did this. Almost a whole year of hair growth and to top it off it is UNEVEN in the back!! How hard is it to cut in a straight line??!, see attached picture. We are very upset with this hairdresser because clearly, she has NOT cut hair in a long time and when she did she broke a little girl's heart by hacking off her long hair and cutting it uneven. We will need to go to another hairdresser to fix her mistakes. I get they wanted to open again because of COVID but this woman should not be cutting hair and we will never return here because of this bad experience. read more

***updated 7/19/19 We went back hoping for Amelia but she is no longer there. I was devastated but the staff remembered us and promised us we'd be in good hands. Kai was our stylist and she immediately connected to my son. He was unsure but she was calm & really communicated with him. In the end, probably his best looking haircut and not a single tear! Thanks Kai! Please don't leave! :) We've been to this location a few times and have always had a great experience, however, our last visit was a 10 star visit that I must share. My son is terrified of getting a haircut. His last two experiences left him in tears and my husband and I in a sweat. We tried to bring his buddy with him this time around so that he could see his friend get his haircut and that it's not scary at all. It made no difference. He was hysterical even before we got him in the chair. Wait we couldn't even get him in a chair! Enter Amelia. She talked to him directly and asked him why he was scared and addressed his issues with him. She managed to not only get him in the chair but she completed his haircut without ONE tear! She was patient, listened to him, distracted him and made him laugh. It took her longer than planned and I'm pretty sure she missed another appointment but she never made us feel bad about it. She took her time and he walked out with a smile and a great haircut. I'm so thankful for her and her kindness and patience. She is a true angel the best part is my son is actually looking forward to his next haircut instead of dreading it. I have now been to Kid's Kuts a couple of times and I'm very satisfied with my experience. My 4 y.o. daughter got her hair cut by Gabby who is extremely friendly and welcoming. They have kid friendly seats and let the kids watch Disney movies while they get their haircut. In all, we are in and out in less than 30 minutes.
