The public messaging is polished: structured routines, trauma-informed care, professional oversight, and a stable environment for parents and their children. But the internal reality is the opposite -- and it raises serious ethical and safety concerns that donors would never sign off on if they saw them firsthand. A huge portion of the "leadership" enforcing rules and issuing consequences aren't professionals at all. They are individuals fresh out of treatment, moved into authority positions with no credentials, no training, no background in family services, and no experience managing vulnerable populations. Yet they're the ones threatening residents with termination and making decisions that determine whether a parent keeps or loses stability for their child. This isn't trauma-informed care. It's a revolving hierarchy built on fear, inconsistency, and unchecked power. When people who finished their own recovery programming only weeks prior are suddenly responsible for supervising parents, enforcing consequences, and deciding who stays or goes, it stops being a support program and starts looking like an unstable, unregulated experiment. And families -- especially children -- are the ones paying the price for that instability. Add to that: * rules that change depending on who's on shift * decisions made with no transparency or documentation * residents routinely threatened with housing loss over minor or unclear issues * supervisors who contradict one another because no one receives standardized training * and a culture where the program's image matters more than its outcomes ...and the whole "transformational" narrative starts to unravel quickly. The level of hypocrisy is impossible to miss. The organization demands stability, consistency, and accountability from families while providing none of those things in return. Donors are told they're funding professional support. What they're actually funding is a system where unqualified individuals -- still working through their own recovery -- are given authority over families who need real expertise, real guidance, and real safety. If you're a donor, you should ask: * Who is actually trained here? * Who is supervising families? * What qualifications do these "leaders" have? * How are families being treated? * And where is the accountability for the power being handed out? The image being sold to the public is not the experience families are living inside the program. And if donors genuinely care about ethical, effective, family-centered support, this is not something that should be ignored.

Last year I met a man who had 3 boys ranging close to the same age as my son. He introduced me to…read morethe "topic" of debate club. I've never heard of it before. I was intrigued with the thought and went to the internet to search for one near me. There weren't any for my son's age; however, I found Capitol Debate. I read their reviews and knew immediately that this was the place for my son. It was a sacrifice that I knew I had to make. My 11 y/o had never been away from me overnight with complete strangers. After the first 2 days, he told me that he wants to go to "Vanderbilt when he grows up b/c the teachers are patient and nice. The students there are nice too. We all got along. I liked everyone and we had fun." I told him it wasn't Vanderbilt's program, it was Capitol Debate. This summer I got the opportunity to watch my 11-year-old son, Justin debate at Capitol Debates' camp located in Nashville at Vanderbilt. I was in complete awe with his performance. My son cross-examined and spoke with such confidence that I've never seen before. He was very proud of himself. That was the day I concluded that debating is an essential life skill that my son will perfect, and he will perfect that skill through Capitol Debate. The courses offered are a financial sacrifice that is a necessity in Justin's life. Thank you Capitol Debate for your incredible programs.

Our son has been coming here for a couple of months now, and has been…read moreworking on his interpersonal and social skills through the PEERS program, as well as continuing that training in the less formal LEGO club. Each program is designed to aid children who need assistance in developing and growing their social skills, and our son has been making leaps and bounds since starting here! Our son has Asperger's syndrome, and Anna has been wonderful in working with him. We did all of our homework, and her credentials all check out (which is something that we always do before working with a service provider.) Both of our boys come for LEGO club, and both of them look forward to it each week, even though we get up fairly early each Saturday to get there. LEGO club proved to be an excellent starting point for the boys, and allowed them to really grow comfortable in the setting before we got the PEERS program set up for our eldest. Now, to the details: the facility is absolutely beautiful. Build inside a dual use location in Carlsbad, the downstairs is set up for the program. Tastefully decorated, it is fun, light, and airy, with plenty of slightly subdued colors that look delightful without being overwhelming. There are plenty of toys, and the collection of LEGO's is constantly expanding. There is a good mix of special needs and typical children, which allows for real interactions that are all supervised and directed by Anna and her staff. Everyone is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and accepting. We truly could not be happier! Would I recommend her to family and friends? Absolutely, and have already gone out of my way to do so. If you have a child that is struggling with social interactions, if you have a child who needs a boost, if you have a child who just doesn't quite get it, this is the place to go. We have already seen honest-to-goodness measurable improvements (which as an aside is something that is also done through the PEERS program.) In summary, this program is excellent and Anna makes it all seem so easy. And, if I'm honest, I've probably picked up a pointer or two for applying in my own life as well.

Ana knows each kids and spend time to communicate to parents about their progress. Highly recommended.

Every one of the teachers my kids have had have been loving and invested in their happiness and educational growth. My kids are excited to go to school every day, come home learning new things daily and even more importantly, feel safe and secure while at school. We feel very blessed that Bethlehem has been part of our life and look forward to sending our one year old there when she's ready for preschool. The latter was 3 days/week but my daughter loved school so much, she wanted to go to school 5 days/week so mid-year, we enrolled her at Coast Tuesday and Thursday. I realized almost immediately, what she got from those two days from an educational standpoint, was far better than her other school. When COVID shut the schools down in March, they continued to do online classes and sent home lots of activities for the kids to do. They really did their best to keep the kids engaged and help parents as much as they could. 5 year olds and distance learning is not a good mix but they really did a great job. They even did fun events when we went to pick up learning materials--and even did a parking lot concert where we stayed in/near our cars and they played songs on a portable sound system where we all got to sing and dance along. It was a fun event for our family during lockdown and we really appreciated it. We ended up doing summer school here throughout COVID and my daughter continued to thrive. We were really pleased with how they handled everything during a very challenging time. Alisa, the Preschool Director is such a pleasure to work with. She always did what was right for the kids and families. I was very impressed because I know first-hand, other schools did not handle the shut down with as much compassion as Alisa and Coast did. Because of our experience here over the past year, I would HIGHLY recommend Coast. You will not be disappointed.

I'm happy to report that I was worried for nothing! My child was able to take Spanish 3, AP & Honors classes. He was also well prepared with the social & emotional tools he learned throughout the years to navigate the new social structure. He has come home many times telling me how grateful he was for his Middle School literature, math & since teachers for the good foundation they gave him as he sees other students struggling with concepts. He also didn't realize how special it was to be able to go directly to the Principal with ideas and projects and be supported & encouraged. It gave him the confidence to speak with adults and continue to pursue his passions.
