We had overall a very positive experience! Chris was great at installing and helping us through the decision process for which type of gates would work with our "interesting" stairs. Baby Gate Installation review. Zero customer support if they screw something up. The reason I am trashing them on Yelp is that I have a glass wall staircase that the gates had to be mounted to. They used silicone glue to mount my gates on the glass wall instead of using clips. I called and asked why they glued them and how would I get them off? They said to use a hair dryer which I said wouldn't work as they use silicone glue is used to secure nuts on engines in race cars. I politely kept calling to have them return to remove it all I got was the run around and they never returned my calls. Finally I just removed them myself.....with a mallet, crowbar, razors, and a ton of goo-be-gone which took hours. They do not stand behind their work, garbage. Call Baby Proofers or just do this yourself. read more

We have bought car seats from here more than once and have travelled here all the way from East York to do so. We have also purchased some small safety items. We have received excellent service during every visit, and know that they are very particular about what they sell so we trust it. An absolute loser of a company. Two of the three gates we got installed have either broken or have broken our house in less than 8 months. And we don't have a child who swings on them. I did not enjoy my experience with Kiddie Proofers whatsoever. After the initial consult ($) I felt very pressured to make a decision about installing recommended products. Follows ups by Samantha were at least once a week, often more frequently and made via numerous phone calls, voicemails and emails. When I had time to sit down and really digest what the quote included, I had genuine sticker shock. I expected that installation and child proofing would be expensive but the installation costs were more than 100% of the cost of materials. When we made the decision to scale back and take on some of the work ourselves I felt incredibly judged and there was an immediate shift in the tone of communication. Despite indicating that I would be buying all of the materials from Kiddie Proofers it felt like the support for that purchase was completely gone. For example, in speaking to a retail store who sells the same products I was given more support for free with respect to the self installation process. If you're strapped for time and cost is not a driving factor in your decision making, I have no doubt they would do a great job. I do also feel that they rely on this and take advantage of parents. My overall advice is that they may be the right fit for you, but do your own due diligence before blindly signing back the quote as I almost did. read more

I knew we had some "trouble spots" in our apartment when it came to child safety. I wanted to be sure I didn't miss anything and also thought it would be nice to have someone else figure it out so I didn't have to. I was told I would get approximately 1hr walk through with a thorough evaluation of each room. A couple of days after scheduling with them, they left a message saying they need to rebook. I suggested 4:30 on the Tuesday and they responded back "how about 1:30?" I told them that doesn't work for me and suggested a few other dates and times. They responded that those times don't work but "what about Tuesday at 4:30?" errrmmm... what just happened here? 4:30 on Tuesday rolled around and Rachel arrived right on time. She took less than 20 minutes to rush through our apartment and point out a number of basic things. We went over which doors baby shouldn't be opening, etc. She missed quite a number of things that thankfully I picked up on later (such as a large dresser not secured to the wall and no latches on the drawers). To give you an idea, here are two of our trouble spots, how she intended to address them, and what I finally came up with (none of the trouble spots were adequately addressed but I don't have enough characters to outline everything): Radiators: We have old style rads that have a large opening at the top where a baby can stick her fingers into and cut and burn her hands. This was the #1 reason I phoned these folks, to come up with a good solution for this. She measured them and said that she thinks she has covers for them but isn't sure. When I finally received the report, she planned to use hearth padding for the radiators. If you know what hearth padding is, you know that this is just not going to work. Hearth padding is basically a padding that attaches to the concrete or whatever the hearth is made of so baby doesn't smash her head on it. Is it heatproof? I don't know and neither did Rachel. Also, if it is large enough to prevent a baby from sticking her fingers in then it would also block the hot air coming out. So this is not a solution at all. I called another baby proofing company that could build a metal mesh style screen to go around the entire thing. This would have been a fantastic solution but was out of our budget so we DIY'd it by buying heavy duty flyscreen material and heavy duty mounting tapes to cover the area she could stick her fingers in while allowing air to come out. That is NOT coming off. "Cat room/Office": We have a room with office stuff, cat litter box in the closet and just general crap we need to sort through while we are still removing stuff from our old house. Rachel took this fact that we are still moving things as we have not settled in yet and therefore, the place cannot be babyproofed well as we aren't ready for it. This was an annoying assumption that was repeated several times and seemed that she was trying to excuse being able to properly address our trouble spots. Moving on... basically, for this room we need to keep baby out while allowing the cat through. I suggested a baby gate raised high enough for the cat to get under but not the baby. She said that the baby would be able to get under and suggested a gate that the cat could jump over. I said that the cat is old and fat so that won't work. She said they can custom make a gate that has a hole for the cat to get through and not the baby. I said 'yay, fantastic'. She took the measurements then tried to convince me that we need a build out as the frame won't support a pressure mount gate. At this point, I believed her because that was before I purchased a pressure mount gate for the playroom with the exact same door frame. She said the gate would have a 6" opening for the cat and was ready to move onto the next thing. I asked "isn't that something the baby could get her head stuck in?" She said "no, of course not" then moved onto the next thing without giving me a chance to inquire further. This whole thing was going to cost $250. Now, if it's something totally necessary, I don't mind spending the money but most of that money was for the unnecessary build-out. Furthermore, I called around other baby proofers and was told numerous times that kind of opening on a gate is a strangulation hazard. When I consulted with Rachel on this, she advised that is what they use for all of their families with cats and that the opening is high up so the baby can't get to it. So hold on a sec, we can't go with a gate that my old fat cat can't jump over but now he has to jump through a high up hole? This "solution" had disaster written all over it. Anyways, one baby proofing company offered a solution that would cost us approx $5: a hook and eye latch on the door to keep it open no more than 4" so the cat can get through but a mobile baby's head cannot fit through.... genius. 2 stars instead of 1 because I got my money back after some insistence read more

My wife reached out to Kiddie Proofers to ask about making our house safe for our boys - the representative was rude (insulting the landscaping, and decor in multiple rooms of the house), insisted we needed thousands of dollars worth of product in order to keep our kids safe/be considered good parents, and he made jokes about the size of my son's head and what that must have done to my wife during childbirth (my son's head is larger than normal, due to medical challenges)... it was a very easy choice to select a different company to help us with baby proofing. read more

Their service is awful! They put up a wobbly fence around our pool which caused the gate not to close properly. They put together a swing/playset which started falling apart and they wanted us to pay again for them to come fix it. I would put zero stars if I could but Yelp won't let me. read more

Single WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my life! I have a 1 year old and I would never trust this company to provide safety for him. There are a lot of companies in Toronto that provide safety services for your child's home and this companies inability to understand PARENTS NEEDS was enough to make me move onto their competition. My wife and I visited them as we needed gates for our walking son. Soon after we arrived, their sales rep advised my wife that our car seat is not safe for our child. Our Peg*Perego primo viaggio is not a good car seat. We proceeded to buy 3 gates, they messed up my order and would not rectify it. They gave me pieces of wood to screw into the wall which did not have screws. I called and I was instructed to go to Home Depot and purchase screws. I brought it to their attention that they sold me the gates with the wood the should install them. Her response was that they charge $80 per gate. I will not go there ever again. read more
