I've always loved the burger special here on Tuesdays. Thick juicy cheeseburger cooked to order. The fresh cut fries are so good. And the price is awesome. Then tonight, I was SHOCKED! Picked up my order and headed home. The fries were awesome as usual. The burger was a total disappointment. Thin frozen patty cooked with heavy seasoning. I could order this at any fast food place. This location isn't very consistent - but then again, neither am I. Two weeks ago I had wings from here that were the best Ive had in Winston-Salem since I touched down almost 4 years ago. Located in the plaza, shopping center directly across the street from Hanes Mall, this massive restaurant has both bar and booth seating splattered all throughout it, with vibrant, glowing flat screens hovering over everyone that feature everything from football, soccer, rugby, baseball and basketball games - both collegiate and professional! Although I can't offer any recommendations as far as the food (since I was only there for drinks), I will see the food look quite popular with the rest of the patrons. I recently visited kickback jacks in Winston for my sisters birthday. It's your typical sports bar with lots of drinks and some yummy bites. Our waitress was really nice and helpful when ordering. We started our dinner with the cheese curds and they were really good. They were hot and had a nice crispy outer shell. For my entree I got the Cajun Alfredo chicken pasta. Overall I really liked it. It didn't really taste Cajun to me but rather just a creamy cheese sauce but it was still really good. They also gave my sister a complimentary ice cream sundae for her birthday, which she enjoyed. It's bar food, nothing special but not horrible either. I occasionally stop in even when I can't drink (work hours) and order one of their lunch specials: a side salad and four small pieces of pizza. Again, certainly it isn't gourmet food, but it does the job and does so both effectively and frugally. My preferences for the lunch deal? The Carnivore pizza (three kinds of meat) and a Caesar salad. They've got a punch card deal during lunch hours as well, one that I believe yields free food after about ten visits, but I've never cashed in on that as I misplace the cards or leave them in the wrong locations. Outside of work hours, I've stopped in for a few brews every once in a while. The draft selection isn't bad, nor are the prices. Service has generally been good in each visit. Our party of 5 arrived and was promptly seated after a short wait. Our waitress popped over within a minute and was cheerful and attentive and eager for us to place our orders. She suggested the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer, which along with our drinks arrived in short order and was enjoyed by all. So far, so good. After our entrees arrived, we discovered that the mashed potatoes were cold, (not lukewarm, but cold), and the grilled steaks were overcooked. The salads never showed up and after we inquired about them more than halfway through the meal, we compromised and had the salads packaged in takeout containers to be enjoyed at home. The meal was winding down and we were close to receiving our check before an offer was made for drink refills, and the drinks themselves didn't arrive until even later. We loved the atmosphere and overall appearance of the restaurant. However, even with a fantastic waitress, the serving staff seemed completely out of sync, as the kitchen crew, bartenders, and drink servers were not networked in a coordinated manner. So, the family was a little disappointed as we had hoped for a better overall dining experience. I just want to add that we didn't show up at prime time (6:00 PM). Actually, we intentionally waited to arrive after 7:30 PM to avoid the biggest crowd. Yet even with the peak crowd gone and several tables empty, there was much room for improvement with the staff. We were in Winston-Salem for a weekend getaway. We decided to stop in and give this place a try. We are glad we did! The food and service was great! The spinach dip was absolutely Amazon!! The best I've had anywhere!! I ordered the Philly cheesesteak and fries and it was delicious. My husband ordered the seafood platter. He did not have one complaint! He said it was so good that no tarter sauce or shrimp sauce was needed. The service was great even though they seemed short staffed. The prices were decent. Fans of Tripp's, the previous occupant, will be disappointed, but if there were many of them, Tripp's would still be open. The door service was quick and our waitress showed up immediately and took the order. After that She was busy and slightly attentive and did not ask about our drinks the entire time. Not the worst service I have had but I wondered if she was new to the job or just overworked. I had the classic burger which was cooked right (medium) and had fried pickle chips on it. This place replaces one of my old favorites - Tripps but is owned by the same company. New food, menu and ambience. TVs everywhere and the trampolines in the ceiling are gone. The staff and cleanliness were great. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful during our meal. I found their wine menu extremely sub par and took some pics. While they have a lot of beer choices, the selections are also sub par. For example, the Ales/IPA section lists 8 beers and all but 1 are IPAs. If you are riding the popular wave of IPAs, you are good. If not, poor choices. Another example, their Porters/Stouts section lists only 1 crappy choice despite listed as pleural. Perhaps removing the plural meaning from the menu since there is no real choice by only having 1 beer listed. The wine selection is comical and unless you are a Cupcake fan you are screwed. It is worth noting my daughter has been on several occasions and has enjoyed it. She sent a great looking pic of wings during one her trips and I had to try. Ugh, more disappointment. The flavor was lacking in many ways and I am not convinced they partially deep fry the wings then finish them on the grill as there was an overpowering oil taste. She raves about the burgers so perhaps they are better. The time it took to receive our drinks was a bit of a let down as well.
