I found Chai through Home Depot and he did such an amazing job painting my tall and sloped popcorn ceiling. The price is fair--especially since I botched it up pretty bad by attempting to paint it myself. No one on Task Rabbit wanted to paint my ceiling and flaked on me. I also met some shady contractor who kept canceling on me the last minute and kept changing his price every time I spoke with him over- the-phone or through text. I felt so emotionally exhausted trying to find a reliable and professional person who could paint my ceiling at a reasonable price. I'm also an accountant so I don't have a lot of time in my schedule to accommodate for these kinds of projects. Found KIC painting through Home Depot & reached out for painting. They were by far the most competitively priced which had me nervous. But we liked the guy Chai that came out. They painted our entire interior house & repainted our banister. They were there on time daily & cleaned up perfectly. Will use them when we're ready to do our kitchen cabinets. read more

Well .. I thought if I gave him a 3* review it would motivate him to make things better. I'll keep this short. It's a month after the job. He won't return calls or texts. I am STILL CLEANING up paint mess he made in my bathrooms and kitchen. Every day I clean up something - and it never stops. If I posted pictures ... he would never receive another job. I would highly recommend against this contractor. He was hired to remove popcorn ceiling; paint a few walls, remove a wall mirror, and put in baseboard for 10 feet. The popcorn ceiling was removed; however, there was a massive spray across the rest of the walls that had been freshly painted to the point that we had to repaint the entire place again. He left with masking tape left up on the walls; there was spray material all over the house and nothing was kept clean. Electronics that should have been covered that were brand new before he arrived looked like they had just gone a smoke storm of 9/11. The baseboard was 1/4 inch too high so it didn't match with the other baseboard requiring us to redo it again. On the positive side, if you want someone to be able to jump in and do a job (albeight poorly and costing you more money to fix) quickly, then KIC is your company. read more

I was referred to KIC Painting through Home Depot as it appeared on the top of their recommended list of local painters. He quoted the lowest price of all contractors I had met. I was skeptical at first but it appeared he was running a legitimate business along with high recommendation from Home Depot. I decided to give it a try. I asked for 2 coats of paint throughout the condominium (about 1000 sq/ft), repair minor drywall problems, and remove popcorn ceilings in a small area. He moved very fast and got the condo painted in 3 days, which seemed very quick for all the work that was involved. In close inspection of his work, I noticed many shortcomings. He over-sprayed the wall paint on the ceiling, dry wall repairs were poorly done and visible, and did not use primer to cover the old paint in the bathrooms as I had requested from the beginning. As I pointed out these issues, he became increasingly agitated and decided to leave the job for another contractor of my choice. He left the job site later in the evening taking with him the keys to my condo unit as well as the garage door opener. He left a mess in the stairways leading to the condo that brought my neighbors to my door steps complaining. I decided to go back to Home Depot for their input. They took my complaint and assured me they would reach out to Mr. Chai and find a resolution. I never heard back from Home Depot. So, I spent the following weeks completing the unfinished work and repairing the mess he had left for me. Meanwhile, I received several phone calls and text messages from Mr. Chai requesting to meet and discuss the pending payment. Eventually, I decided to meet with Mr. Chai and discuss the issue. As I was waiting for him at the front gate, he took the liberty to enter the premise through the garage from the back street, park his car in my carport and enter the condo using the keys he had taken with him without my permission. I returned to the condo to meet with him all confused and pondering why would he allow himself to enter the premise without my permission. As we met and discussed his work and the pending payment, he became increasing agitated and combative again; using profanity demanding payment for his work. I tried to calm him down to no avail. I felt threatened physically and asked him to leave the premise but he quickly jumped in front of the door; locking the front door and blocking the way so I can't leave. Meanwhile, he was shouting and demanding payment. As he continued speaking aggressively, he made several remarks about my ethnicity and the difficulty he has been experiencing working with people of my ethnic background. Luckily, I had the entire conversation recorded on my smartphone and warned him about the consequences of his behavior. He didn't seem unmoved and continued demanding his payment. It all lasted for over half an hour and he eventually accepted my offer for partial payment. read more

We hired Chai and his crew before reading any of these reviews. Needless to say, we became a little worried that we had made a mistake. But we gave them a chance and I'm glad we did. I used them to paint the exterior of my house, doors and window trims. I hired them based on a friend's recommendation without checking Yelp, which was a first for me. They did an excellent job. From repairing the stucco to sealing Windows they were very thorough. They were very polite and professional. The lead painter (Chun) was awesome. His English is not that great but his work more than makes up for it. He understood everything I wanted. He would stop doing what he was doing to listen to my concerns and saying Ok. Sometimes I wasn't getting the worm feeling that he really got what I wanted as I would leave for work, but to my delight when I return from work he would have corrected everything I had asked in the morning. The job took about a week to complete with 3 or 4 painters working so I couldn't stay with them every day and had my brother stay with them. They cleaned everything very nicely at the end. I have been doing some renovations in my house and contractors have been a challenge to deal with from working half days to taking 2 hour breaks to dirtying up restroom, to getting moody when I point something they didn't do right, but these guys really did put a honest day's work each day. They weren't the cheapest or the most expensive but I sure am glad I used them. They also used Edward-Dunn paint which was a plus for me. read more
