Lately I've been into Ponce Crush, the first Saturday art stroll that highlights local works at Youngblood, Beep Beep and the Kibbee Gallery. I have grown weary of staying out 'til 3 on the weekends but still crave the edgy atmosphere that contrasts with workweek office vibes. So going to a free opening at the Kibbee Gallery at 8 p.m. is a great substitute - and much more visually stimulating than the gray haze of a dive bar.
Kibbee resides within an old house behind Fellini's, complete with hardwood floors, crown molding and a decorative fireplace. A few pieces have hung on the walls during the past two Ponce Crush strolls I attended - one is a charcoal sketch of Mickey Mouse ice cream bars and another, a drawing of an innocent blonde sitting Indian style in sneakers and a sweatshirt, aptly titled "Teenagers Live Forever."
I could get used to the art stroll/Diet Coke/in bed by midnight on a Saturday thing. read more
