A department store featuring original, imported products from Japan. The items here are of a much higher quality than other import shops. I am a huge fan of Japanese stationary and pens, and there is a very large selection here. There are also housewares, toys, origami paper, and much more. This Japanese department store is one of a kind in Edmonton, and the staff person I spoke with, said possibly in Canada. They recently opened and are located in a strip mall in the West End just off of Stony Plain Road. On a Saturday afternoon, it was quiet in the store and I was able to learn more about the product from the staff person working. All the products are made in Japan and are typically used in daily life of Japanese people. It would also be great for those who visited or lived there and might be looking for the products. There are different sections within the store. On the left near the front are the housewares including great cups that look like cupcakes. Near the entrance there's a table full of colourful cloths which could be used as tablecloths, framed as art, or hung as a banner. Towards the back, there are coasters, printed toilet paper, small gym bags for a water bottle and towel, and there's an assortment of pens and highlighters. They have eraser on them! What a great idea and I picked one up to use when I write cards and make a mistake. Along the back wall are purses and bags, sandal socks (love the sushi ones), sandals, and kimonos. By the right wall are items for decorating the home including paper art that seems delicate but when water is added, they can be stuck on windows and reused! The store also carries earrings, masking tape, stationary including notebooks, medicine bags that I'll use to carry my jewelry when I travel, make up bags, coin purses, stamps, and stickers. I visited Ki-fu-ne for the first time last week and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. I'd expected it to be similar to stores like Miniso: lots of cute trinkets but not high quality. Well I was completely wrong! Ki-fu-ne is an absolute gem. All of their products are imported from Japan and while the store is fairly pricey, it is definitely a reflection of the quality. They have some gorgeous pieces and beautiful fabrics. The owner knows all of the products intimately and was able to answer all of our questions. I ended up picking out some adorable chopstick stands but I'm sure I'll be back for more soon! read more

I LOVE this store. It's classy with subtle hints of adorable, but you won't find Hello Kitty here. Everything here comes from Japan and delights range from dishes, pens, towels, bags, paper goods, jewelry, dolls and various art deco. Also, their prices are a lot less than you would expect, especially for imported items. Don't shoot me, but I bought some Christmas gifts... How about tiny jars to hold carved wooden flowers? Tea towels that can be framed? Or tea towels with embroidered flowers that come in little geisha girl containers? I indulged in a pair of earrings made from resin for myself. My troll thinks they look like plastic. I think they look like frosted glass. There is so much to see! I'll definitely be back! read more

This is a gorgeous store, located off Stony Plain Road just across from Mayfield Common, and in the same mini-mall as the Pacesetter ski shop. It feels a lot like walking into an art gallery, with lots of space, hardwood floors, soft focused lighting, everything arranged just so. There are little placards here and there with information about the designer, or information about how to use the product. For example, there was a trivet made of three concentric circles that you could rearrange and seamlessly interlock depending on the size of your pot. There is so much to look at, from kitchenware (knives, plates, bowls, a tin wire set of display baskets that you could manipulate to your need,..) to jewelry (earrings, necklaces, steel-etched pendants, these really cute jewelry trees,..) to office supplies (pens, sticky notes, paper clips, pencil holders,..) to kimonos to wall art (beautiful frames, with the option to buy the artwork separately)... And everything is so unique. There were these really cool paper boxes that were lacquered to give them shine and durability. The foldable bento box. Coin purse-in-coin purse, well, coin purse. This is a great store for gifts as I would say the majority of the items were really reasonably-priced. The glassware they have featured in their eBay shop is not indicative of the prices of the other items. There is a lot of stuff under $30 but quite a lot of little items under $10 as well. Located just off Stony Plain road and across from Mayfield common, this spacious store featuring Japanese dishes, kitchen ware, jewelry, mittens, fabrics, home decoration, chopsticks, ceramics, handbags and more has the feel of a gallery. The store has a curated selection of unique items that are beautiful in design and quality - it is not a tacky souvenir shop. I was quite taken with the beautifully printed cloths that were meant as tea towels but would feel more at home hung the wall as art. The cloths were shown throughout the store shaped into carriers for bottles, lunches and even handbags. As a self-confessed paper & pen geek, I would like to see a better stationery selection. The selection was mostly Pilot ballpoint pens that can be easily found at Staples and common Midori items. With the awesomeness of Japanese pens, paper and ink there is room for a wider variety. I would love to see some Sailor fountain pen inks (bungbox please!), some of the harder to find fountain pens nibs and maybe some Hobonichi papers and accessories. And something new that I don't know about pen or paper wise would be great! The staff was friendly and, very important to me, let me look around without pressuring me. This is a store you want to take your time in. read more
