The Kandoker is a brilliant Curry House.
When it initially opened I was dubious, but more than willing to give it a go with it being stumbling distance from my abode.
When I first went I thought I wouldn't go again, I didn't like the food or the staff and wrote it off, how wrong I was. I went a second time a couple of months later as I'd hate to judge anywhere on one sitting, and felt like I had come to a whole different place.
Many moons ago I used to believe you could only get a good Curry in Rusholme, whereas nowadays I rarely go. The food at the Khandoker is fantastic, slightly spicier than I would prefer (but that is hardly a negative as I'm more inclined to milder end of the spectrum) but the spice is not too much, and the meats are always cooked awesomely.
The staff are friendly, and its always a good touch that Salim if he is in for the evening will go out of his way to say hello to you and make sure you're happy its a good touch to service that I always like about 'good curry houses'
The Beer there (as I must always comment went beer is available) is good (well as good as lager is) they have Cobra, but I would always say give the Banghla (Splg?) a go its a nice lager and does have a slightly different taste to Cobra.
I also wouldn't panic if you've not had chance to book ahead of schedule, the place is deceptively larger than you would think as there is an upstairs, and you may find that a table will be available straight away or in half an hour (in which case you can stay at the bar, or go to the pub next door for a quick pint)
This is certainly a Curry house that is a must to try if you're in the area. read more
