Spicy Hut is simply outstanding. I've been a number of times and so have family, friends and friends of friends and I've yet to hear anything other than glowing feedback about this small but perfectly formed Indian on the curry mile. If that isn't enough to get you interested, then perhaps their list of awards will, including National Curry Chef 2004 and the Gold Award for Manchester's Environmental Business Pledge. The first thing you'll notice is the presentation and professionalism of all the staff that work here. The decor isn't anything spectacular, but when the food and service is as good as it is here, it doesn't really detract from the overall experience in my opinion. If you want to get the proper Spicy Hut experience, then you have to order one of the restaurant's Sizzlers and Sizzling Shashliks. Flambeed at your table, the taste can't be beaten. My favourite dish of late though is the Lamb Mirchi Charm, prepared with honey, hot Spices, fresh Green Chillies and peppers to give a hot and sweet taste. I think this place is outstanding too. However, I want to make it clear from the off that I am judging it only in relation to other restaurants on the curry mile, and not to other curry houses in Manchester. The best curry houses are simply not on the curry mile. The top three ar Akbars in Castlefield, Moon in Withington and East z East near Oxford Road. This though, is one of the better curry vending establishments on this mile long stretch of curry vending establishments. Vindaloos are hot, Kormas are mild. It annoys me when a Vinda is not hot enough and when people say (i never get ne myself) that the Korma is spicy. this place has got both just right, at opposite ends of the spectrum. And better than that, the hot curries here are not just tomato sauce and chillies, but actually have great unique flavour as well. You cant ask more. Spicy Hut? Sounds like an inauthentic option because of its English name, but its the best in Indian food available on this illustrious mile. read more

When I read these reviews about Spicy Hut I made plans to go, imagine my delight when a group of over 20 friends of mine decided to go there, and imagine my even greater delight when all these reviews turned out to be true. The 10% student discount was nice too. The food is really excellent, not quite East z East quality, but mighty close. The spice level really does vary correctly, the spicing is also in depth and not merely cheap 'hit you and go' flavours. The meat is pretty good too, and the portion sizes are proper (and more so, contain the proper amount of meat, unlike other Curry Mile places). A rice can be shared between two, as can a naan. This means that the prices are good, a curry plus rice and naan comes to about a tenner, before drinks. The decor is OK, except for the outside which is a bit odd, and the furniture isn't the high point. But it also isn't the point at all, the food not only drags this place up to scratch, but up to the top of the Mile itself. Don't waste your time going to other places on the mile, especially not the mediocre places like Al Nawaz, Lal Quila and so on. Come here. read more

Spicy hut is at the start of the Curry Mile in Rusholme. We tried here as we had originally wanted to try a curry house up the road but it was full so as we were walking back to the car we saw there were tables available we decided on Spicy Hut for our late night meal (late for us anyway at 9pm!). We were promptly seated and had drinks in front of us within a couple of minutes which was good. We ordered poppadum's, onion bhaji and chutneys to start with. They came and these were very good. A sign of good things to follow. We decided to share a lamb karahi, veg rice and peshwari  nann for our main course. We were asked if we were ready for our main or would we like to wait which is a nice change. We were starving so we quickly said now please... First impressions were good. Good sized portions and wonderful smell. We couldn't wait to get stuck in. The karahi was excellent with just the right amount of heat and spices, the rice and bread were also excellent, the bread had the nice charred bits but remained nice and soft in the centre. It was delightful. We were in and out within 45 minutes although we never once felt rushed! I will definitely be heading back here if we are visiting curry mile again. read more

This is my favourite curry house in Rusholme. I have been to many and always find myself going back to here as the food is far superior to almost any where else in the curry mile. They also do home delivery and collection which is a bonus. Some of the other restaurants in this area do look a little bit nicer,,but the quality and taste is amazing here. I'm a bit torn about this place to be honest. The reviews I've read all say that it's a great place to go, and perhaps that was the issue as it didn't meet my high expectations. It's definitely one of the more posh places on the Mile, and you are seated quickly and courteously. However, from there is starts to go downhill. We tried to explain to the waiter we wanted to order a few dishes and share, so we'd need some plates rather than eating from the dish. Yep that was an epic fail. Our next issue was when one of my dining companions decided he was going to order for the table as he is Pakistani and thus obviously has the best taste in food (his words, not mine but needed to set the scene). The waiter takes one look at him and starts laughing. I'm think, sweet, here are those practical jokes I've been hearing about and carefully keeping silent about to surprise my colleagues. The waiter started berating my colleague about his picks and how no self-respecting Indian would order that. So point for the restaurant for entertainment factor (more so because it wasn't me that was the focus of the tirade). Once the food finally arrived, things started to shape up. The food was tasty, fresh, and fun. The garlic naan could have used more garlic but hey I'm sure everyone else later was thankful I didn't have garlic breath. I would have also preferred some more spice as the vindaloo (a typically hot Goan dish) was fairly mild in mind. But the flavour was there so that's the important party. The mango lassi was also quite good and definitely something I'd recommend. Overall, it's an alright place but I think I prefer Lal Qila on the Mile or Nawaab off it. Spicy hut sounds like pizza hut except in an Anglo Indian tone. The restaurant is a shining beacon on the curry mile, with its silver signage and neon writing it reminds you more of beagle 2 then a curry house. Inside the speciality of the day are the sizzling dishes (watch your eyebrows) and my personal favourite is the chicken shlashlik. The staff are friendly and extremely polite, but as per with most restaurants on the curry mile the place is grossly overstaffed, making your meal feel more like an interrogation of every want and need you could possibly conceive rather than an informal occasion. But don't let this get you down, the restaurant has some very good food and the sizzling dishes are top notch! read more

I have to admit that I haven't been to many of the places along the curry mile, but I'm assured by a few people that have that this is one of the best places to go to. Just past St Marys hospital, this restaurant offers a wide range of choice, and is open till all hours (great for those 'post-drinking munchies'). It's good value for money and the food is pretty tasty, especially the Lamb Karahi, which is lovely. An extra bonus is that you get Vimto lollies and Softfruits with the bill. Went there with three others, the food was lovely and tasful and the service was a joy. We experienced the Spicy Hut's famous practical jokes. My friend ordered a small orange juice and received a shot glass of her drink. We were quite bemused untill he returned with the actual drink. It was quite funny. I had the Malta which was delicious, I had never had orange in a curry before but it worked so well. I would have liked our garlic naan to be more garlic-y considering its price difference to the plain naan. The tables and chairs are packed rather tight, but that doesn't bother me. I was born and raised in Lahore's old walled city, so I know a thing or two about Pakistan's cuisine. I have now moved to Vancouver and had lost all hope that I would ever find Pakistani food outside of Pakistan. In fact, I had stopped going to any place that claims to serve Pakistani food. I visited this place on my trip across Europe and it reminded me of Lahore. I had to say this was the best meal I had on the trip in which I visited 41 cities in 19 different countries. My take is, for Pakistani food that tastes better than this you have to go to Pakistan, this is as good as it gets outside of the country. read more

Hot damn that's one Spicy Hut. One of the best curry houses on the Rusholme Strip, Spicy Hut offers some beautiful Indian and Pakistani dishes in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Man do they pack it in, there are a few too many tables in this place, which means once you're in, you're in and by the time you've finished eating you might have some trouble heaving yourself from your seat and squeezing your way out the front door. But not only to they pack in custom, the dishes here are bursting with fresh flavours and heaped into piles so high it is a little daunting. On my most recent visit I shared a Dopiaza and a Makhani and was delighted by the rich but light flavours which leave you satisfied but not overly full (as is often the case upon waddling home from the Curry Mile). Many of the dishes come with freshly chopped herbs and the waiting staff are more than helpful when choosing sides and accompaniments to suit your main meal. The waiters here are legendary among students for their HILARIOUS practical jokes. I won't spoil the fun here, but if you order a chicken dish prepare yourself for a shock. A great little curry house which skims the tackier side of Rusholme and comes out on top, Spicy Hut is always a safe bet whether you're having a early evening meal or a late night stomach liner. read more

The mixed starter was a really good combination of kebabs and a nice blend of spices to start off the meal. The chutneys were delicious and also helped to cool down the spicy seikh kebab.The jalfrezi was a real challenge but I managed to wash it down with the creamy mango firni.I definitely will return to try other combination. read more

The delivery was 30-40minutes late and was missing one item. We are still waiting for this item 30minutes after reporting it and have been offered no form of compensation for the mistake. The food was cold and poor quality. We expected more from Spicy Hut as the prices are higher than normal takeaways. We certainly won't be ordering from here again or recommending to anyone. After reading the reviews and discovering that the price was a little more than your average Indian, I felt this was a decent takeaway so we decided to order. I thought the choice, layout and overall ordering system on the Internet was brilliant, I was also very impressed with the alcohol delivery too. However the meal itself was very disappointing, The tikka lamb vindaloo was tough and gritty, the mushrooms in the mushroom, pea and onion rice were rubbery, slimy and tasted like they were out of a tin, the poppadoms were stale and chewy in the middle, the garlic and cheese nan was not fresh, and the tandoori mixed starter was dry. The only thing I enjoyed from the whole meal was the 3 X £1.80 cans of Stella that came with it. I did not think of complaining as this is not normally me, but when I threw most of my meal in the bin I decided to complain as the price of this takeaway was about a 3rd more expensive than the regular Indians we normally get, so I rung the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. He was kind of apologetic and told me that he is confused as this is the first complaint hes had this week and then began to lecture me about the usual protocol on complaining about food and how I should not have put it in the bin. I did not really call to try to get a refund as I normally put it down to experience, I was merely delivering my opinion on how I thought it was over priced for the poor food we received. He then "decided" he would send a driver back over to me with £10.00 and once again tried teaching me on how to complain properly by keeping the food not disposing of it. This is a gem for curry fans. Garish decor belies a real love and understanding of curry. Avoid the usual standard stuff on the menu and go for the house specials like the Handy and Matoke - they are just simply superb examples of real indian food. The owner is a chef and creates all the special marinades himself (to keep the secret recipes from itinerant chef's). I tasted flavours I never knew existed and my wife decided it was the best indian food she'd ever had. I travelled from Penzance and it was worth every mile. read more
