Today marked the fourth time I came into Curls Rock for my hair appointment, and it will be the last. The first two times I came here, I got phenomenal quality service and hair cuts by two pros of curly hair, Nadria and Akeri. The first two times I visited I got a devacut and style by Akeri and was thrilled with the results, like instagram quality results. The third time, I came in to get a full set of Pintura Highlights with Nadria, and they turned out so beautifully and I was hooked. I am not the type to even write Yelp reviews in the first place, but my experience today was so disappointing I just had to give my two cents. I booked to get more Pintura Highlights and a simple trim. I arrived at the time I was told, only to have the woman at the front desk mix up my appointment and make me sit there for 45 minutes before being seen. Then we started the Pintura color session, and I am less than thrilled with the results. I was expecting to be colored by Nadria's skillful hand, (I was informed she had actually left the salon for good) only to be handed off to another colorist who was trying her best, but now that I am home and looking at the color I am really not happy with it. I shelled out top dollar to be given not so great highlights. Seriously, my hair looks no different than when I walked in the salon, same exact color. FOUR HOURS LATER at the salon for an appointment that should have been no more than 2, I leave really disappointed in the service. The highlights were mediocre, and the cut was alright, not to mention they totally ripped me off and overcharged me. If you are looking for an average curly haired haircut, I would say sure, go here to get a simple Devacut and you will probably be safe. But anything beyond that, bring your business somewhere else. read more

Fantastic friendly salon, especially for people with curly hair. My daughter and I both got our hair cut and we are more than pleased with the results. The ladies really take the time to educate you on how to care for your curly hair. My hair was a mess, largely in part to my ignorance in knowing how to deal with my evolving gray hair, which had also changed texture. A friend recommended this place. I wasn't sure but then I found a coupon I got from Groupon. I think it was $30 off of $100 or something, for a cut and some type of color. It wasn't anything I am not used to paying. The receptionist was lovely, did not treat me as though I was cheap or shouldn't be there. She helped me figure out how to tip on the full price of whatever the total was. The person who colored my hair (I wanted total color and then high lights later) was not friendly at all. Next I went to get my hair cut. The person cutting my hair told me that the first cut was minimal, that was their procedure. I did not understand that, maybe because of the coupon? I left the salon the first day and called two days later to say that my hair was still too long with hardly any curl. The receptionist rescheduled me to come back, but she could not do it on the same day I had an appointment to return for the highlights. There was no charge for the 2nd cut, but I tipped her anyway. The hair cutter did take off a bit more. The color person, same on as last, gave me the highlights. I liked them. That color person never told me I was finished, or told me goodbye or thank you. She just started working on someone else. So, my first visit I got $30 off about a hundred. I paid full price for the highlights when I came back.I usually tip well. Even with a coupon, you tip on full price. I did not tip the color person as well as I would have the second time. She was not nice. The boy who washed my hair was very good, he and the receptionist. My nail person told me later never to into a hair place with a coupon! read more

From the scheduled appointment to the day I took my daughter as a first time client as a worried mom I had extremely good customer service. Diana is a pleasure to speak with over the phone and in person just as much. Makes it all very comfortable and professional. With us she went out of her way to accommodate some questions I had. Katrina the head hairstylist and owner of the salon decided to take care of my daughter herself because the stylist who they had booked her with was behind and she didn't want us waiting too long. She gave my daughter her first deva cut and helped her realize that it only takes a few steps to get her beautiful curls to be manageable. Explained the deva curl products she used on her all too well. Took her time drying all and each curl out. Katrina was soft spoken and patient. We got lucky to meet with her. Jailyn also had Angela the color specialist work on her hair. First time ever to put any type of chemical or color. I was extremely nervous but Angela's expertise erased that nervousness from me. It was over all a very good experience. Katrina reassured me that for Jailyn's next appointment of she was not available I could without any doubt have anyone from her staff take care of my daughters hair. Jailyn spoke briefly to Ricky and she said he is also laid back funny and friendly. So if he is available for appointments feel at ease with him too. I am grateful the salon exists and relieved my daughter loved her experience and came out satisfied. Thank you! She is a happy permanent new client. My wife came to Curls Rock Salon for a color job. The results were horrible. When I came to pick her up I immediately said :"Her hair is too dark she looks like an old lady".( THIS IS STRIKE ONE) and this is basically what this young woman said to me wife adding insult to injury to this debacle. She never consulted with my wife about how she wanted her hair color to be(THIS IS STRIKE 2) which has always been colored to look like Honey/Wheat. Not the garbage dark brown hair color she got. I called the very next morning & either spoke to the manager or the person who makes appointments. She asked if we were able to come over at 4:30pm & the person who did the original job would redo it at no charge. We arrived at 4:30 only to be told that the young woman left for the day.(THIS IS STRIKE 3 AND YOU'RE OUT). They did not have our current phone number to tell us that this person would not be there to correct this hair disaster. However, they should have immediately consulted with the person who did the color job while I was on the phone. This is sheer stupidity on managements part. They did not offer to have another person to redo the hair color job. They actually refused & told me that the person who did it would be the one to redo it. No away that we're going to do this after she called my wife an old woman. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME GOING HERE! I made an appointment because I was visiting some family in Florida and I had previously saw a picture of clients hair that I liked. I drove three hours to the salon and when I got there I showed the stylist the picture of the look I wanted! She had done the girls hair in the picture so I was expecting similar results. I had my hair lightened and styled, I love the style but my hair was very orange with lots of demarcation. I called the hair salon a few days later because I tried to make myself like the hair color. It was so awful I couldn't. I spoke with the salon manager she began to argue with me saying she didn't see a problem with my hair color. I told her about the bleach spotting in my hairline and she still argued. Being upset with the poor customer service I told her I was going to share my experience on yelp and said goodbye. I promptly received a call back from her saying she would call me back tomorrow and said I would get my money back. A few hours later I received a message from Nadria saying she was willing to fully refund me and I would hear from Stacey the next day. The following day I received a call from Stacey saying they weren't going to refund me and that I would get 50% off the next time I went back and a free product. NOW WHO THE HELL WOULD GO BACK TO A SALON THAT DID AN AWFUL JOB ON THEIR HAIR? WHY WOULD I GIVE YOU A SECOND CHANCE TO DISAPPOINT ME? Went in to buy something to help boost my curls for my next week's consultation for my blow dried-flat ironed damaged brittle hair. Katrina took the time to offer a free wash, condition and hydration process to evaluate my hair's condition. One hour later, my curls were not frizzy or kinky. They were fully hydrated, most amazing curl I've ever seen, and this is only the beginning. It was a very emotional experience. I return next week for my cut. I was so pumped to find a salon that specializes in curly hair! I read reviews and they made me even more excited. Unfortunately when I arrived I was disappointed. As soon as I walked in, the front desk girl just starred at me so I introduced myself. She told me to have a seat and that was that. When I walked to the bathroom, as I smiled at the employees, NONE of them smiled back. They are miserable. The staff is not friendly, they're very impersonal which makes the time together very awkward and uncomfortable. They are far more interested in engaging in conversation among themselves than with their clients. This is my second time here within 2 months and the second time was worse than the first. No conversation, no introduction. Nothing. Just awkward. When I asked a question (to the girl who was coloring my hair, whose name I do not know because she did not introduce herself) I received a 1 word response and that was it, I was hoping to initiate some form of conversation, no luck there. Thankfully, the girl who washed my hair was very sweet, she spoke to me, asked questions and gave me answers to mine, she was happy to help and very kind, this was refreshing. While I am thrilled to have found products that work so well with my hair, I will not be returning back here. I am on a mission to find another salon. It boggles my mind that there are people like this that work in the customer service industry. Love this salon! Just went for the first time. I booked my appointment with Laenny which gave me 20% for the first visit. Reasons why I had an amazing experience: 1. She got to know my hair. Felt it, scrunched it, and listened to my concerns 2. She dry cut it! (For you curly girls out there, I share your frustration with hair stylists that say they don't dry cut even if you request it.) The dry cut calmed my nerves because I could see exactly how short my curl was going to be. 3. The washing chairs are massage chairs :) 4. She gave me an in-depth tutorial of how to use product, scrunch hair, and use the diffuser 5. She didn't push product on me. She said I could buy it at ulta or anywhere I want and made a list of products I needed 6. Curls Rock gives you a print out of exact instructions of how to style your hair, so you can follow along at home and don't have to take notes at the salon. Lovely experience and well worth the money. Definitely coming back! read more

I was pleasantly​ surprised​ by Curls Rock Hair Salon. I am an Afro Caribbean woman with very kinky hair. I was concerned they would not have the expertise​ to deal with my hair. It was a sensitive​ time for me; my shoulder length hair was very damaged from using the wrong product. I was also recovering​ from a very bad experience at another "Curly Hair salon." Jasmine was nothing but wonderful. She was very educated, and she was able to figure out what had happened to damage my hair. She did not pressure​ me to buy products my experience was wonderful. So if you're a boy/male good luck getting a haircut here. They apparently don't take boy clients unless the hair is shoulder length, even though I've brought my son there twice before. They also seem to have difficulty keeping employees because both stylists that cut my son's hair previously no longer work there. Each time my son got a BAD haircut and then a less than mediocre haircut, but I was willing to give this place one more shot. I guess it's a good sign for us they discriminate and don't cut boys' hair-- even though the receptionist said they'd cut a female's hair that was short, we probably dodged another bad and WAY OVERPRICED haircut. read more

Great salon!!! Multiethnic women and men really have a place they can come to that will cater to your curls no matter your curl type. Laenny is amazing with those shears. Showed her a few inspiration pics and let her do her thing. Then she let me loose to Nadria for some color. I never do color and she warned me I'll be addicted. I think she is right. Loving coppery highlights and now I want even more. The shampoo chairs are fun. I'd go back just for that alone. After the great shampoo and deep condition with all the great Devacurl products my hair came out exactly how I wanted it. I'll be going back every six months for sure. Fun experience indeed. The other ladies getting their hair done were ecstatic with their results. The amount of beautiful curls in that establishment left you inspired at the possibilities of what your curls can do. Everyone who works here has curly hair, so they understand the unique challenges that we curly girls face. When they see your hair, they don't look at you like it's going to be such a challenge to deal with, or try to sell you on chemical treatments and straighteners....as if there is only ONE type of beauty. They take a genuine interest in what you want (and what you don't want), while listening patiently to any questions or concerns that you might have. The standouts for me on my first visit here were the receptionist--Pamela, the stylist who cut my hair--Laenny, and the stylist who colored my hair--Nadria. Pamela at the front desk did wonders for calming my nerves. Laenny patiently listened to and looked at all of the ideas and photos that I showed for the type of cut I wanted...and then gave me exactly what I was looking for with the hands of an artist. And Pamela gave me the color of colors! So natural and just beautiful. I left the salon looking and feeling great. I went from always wearing my hair pulled back in a bun, to wearing my curls out and free everyday. I was educated on how to take care of my hair and it truly made a difference. I really wanted this to be a good cut. But once again I am left with another bad hair cut that has me wishing I just left my split ends alone. My hair is shapeless... And heavy on the ends. Rule #1 with curly hair is to not have triangle shaped hair. Now I do.. Also, the products left my hair heavy and sticky. Usually by day 2 my curls have sprung up happily, but not with this cut and these products. And just to put it out there, the front desk lady wasn't very welcoming. Everyone kinda seemed miserable.
