Firstly I thought that on a Friday afternoon that the place would be rammed and I'd have to wait an age to get ripped in to those tiny, tender poultry pieces but I was wrong I walked in ordered at the bar and less than 15 minutes later I was presented with a wooden bowl of 33 glazed buffalo wings - all for £8.95! The price was good and the wings did live up to the hype but I wouldn't say they were earth shattering. There was just the right amount of glaze but the wings themselves lacked meat. Yesterday's visit to The Hudson reaffirmed how good the bar is in my eyes - it's such a jack of all trades - serves a whole host of different beers - I had the Sam Adams, something that you don't see too often in Belfast. The sauce had to do that work, and even with 'extra sauce' requested, it was not enough make up for the dry burger. Staff is friendly, but to my palette, the food was barely acceptable and reminiscent of the pre foil-wrapped burgers you get at a hospital or school cafeteria. There's a time and place for that type of burger, but not at these prices.

My kids were happily distracted with colouring in their menus while the lovely waitress took time to ask them their order instead of just asking me. They were also very impressed with the mini milkshakes provide in small milk bottles, like I would have got in school - a nice touch. It was burgers all round and they did not disappoint, good taste and ample portion size. The kids of course leaving just enough room for ice cream. Jack Harley's is a great spot, but not the cheapest. However in this case you do get what you pay for. Even my wife who's not a big fan of burgers commented how nice it was. Staying open until 2am meant this was the obvious choice but unfortunately the later it stays open, the more little children who should be in bed but rather are sitting smoking at the door seem to congregate here not for food but merely to be a pain in the backside. (The place could stay open alone out of selling WKD to underage chavs) The food is top quality, the best KFC I've been to, and beats the one in Enniskillen who told us they were currently out of chicken... true story. This particular KFC (tramps aside) is very good and opening late night means a Bargain Bucket can be a welcome change from the 4% meat ; 96% other burgers you get from surrounding takeaways.

I also detest the fact that a lot of their outlets on the mainland are now only serving halal chicken (Muslim slaughtered meat). KFC like to give us the impression that they humanely stun the chickens first before they are killed but the fact is these chickens have to be alive & aware. There throats are then cut, without stunning them first, so the blood can be drained from them. This is a barbaric Muslim tradition in which the animal suffers & is in pain & therefore is left alive for minutes and in agony while the blood drains from its carcass! Just remember that when you next call into a KFC !

The beauty of Belfast is that the buildings are big and traditional, that the bricks are all red and white and that the place looks like it has always looked. The problem of this is that on the very bottom of these beautiful buildings, someone has decided to ram in a KFC. A big, red, Kentucky style KFC right in the middle of a high-street which was usually fashionable. I am aware that many of these buildings are infact shops. But some, like Primark, still have the original look of the old Bank that used to be there. KFC have taken every consideration for what used to be here 200 years ago and then stuck a big red sign in the middle of it and thought "yee-haa who cares? you want a zinger burger tower deal box with beans that aren't even nice but you still get them anyway because you don't trust the gravy?" KFC is nice. It's a fact. But to stick one slap-bang on the main street looks tacky and totally out of keeping with what our forefathers and our five-fathers used to have there. Good food. Shameful positoning.
