After arriving in Barcelona the night before, I set out on a bit of a gastronomic expedition. With an empty stomach, I was yearning to try out some of Catalonia's famous cuisine. I had heard about KFC from some of the city guides, so I decided to try it out. (You don't need reservations)
Finding this little gem of a place was no easy task, but after asking some of the locals, I finally stumbled upon it just outside of Sagrada Familia (I assume this makes for a great meal after worship). The restaurant is nestled in between several other local eateries and has a vibrant exterior.
As soon as I stepped inside the doors, I was hit by the wonderful aromas of the Colonel's chicken. The restaurant is very popular with the Catalonians. Both floors were full of hungry, overweight diners inhaling buckets of crispy chicken. One lady even ate the bones! How grand!
Service was great! As soon as you step foot inside the place, one of the workers guides you like a shepherd to one of the 3 lines. I would have never figured out which one to go to without his help.
After waiting in line for several minutes, it was finally time to order. I stepped up to the register and was greeted with a "tell me". I asked for chicken pieces, or as the say in Barcelona, "Puedo tener some pollos!" I opted for the meal which came with some traditional mashed potatoes and brown sauce as well as a "grande" bottle of pepsicola.
It turns out that you don't have to wait to be seated here. I wish i had known this because i spent 10 minutes trying to ask one of the employees to be seated, but they only spoke Spanish. Alas, I sat myself down on the second level in between two tables of drunk Germans. Young people are so lively! Aside from the brilliant atmosphere, the meal itself was splendid. The chicken tasted wonderful! I think my chicken had just been grabbed from the pile that was cooked only 30 minutes before.
I can't get over how wonderful this restaurant is. I will definitely be coming back! I love Spain! read more
