My former dentist's office was closed and I was in a fix because a crown had come off during breakfast. They squeezed me in after a very short wait and sent me on my way in a few minutes. On my first "official" visit, Andrew Kemlage gave me the ten-cent tour of the office and showed me all the modern dentistry tools including a machine that makes crowns in an hour and a 360-degree X-ray machine that can even peer into your sinus cavities. Andrew's father Thomas is much closer to my age and I suspect part of the motivation for such an investment in all the latest gee-whiz technology is to make certain everything is shipshape for that time in the future when Thomas hangs up his probes, retractors, and burs for good. That committment to the tools of the trade helps make Andrew a good dentist and Thomas an even better father. When you first enter this clean and bright office, you get the best array of magazines I have ever seen in a waiting room. Sadly, my wait time has always been too brief to read even a single article. I have six (or so) crowns, six (or so) root canals, four (or so) extractions, and two dental implants in my mouth. To say I know my way around a dentist's office is an understatement. I've met a herd of hygienists, a troop of technicians, a swarm of secretaries, a pride of periodontists, and a drove of dentists in my lifetime. As you can imagine, these have not been happy hours for me. The people who worked at the dentist's offices have frequently been my lifeline. Everyone at Kemlage Family Dentistry is personable, friendly, professional and neat. A wrinkle on a uniform would die of loneliness in this office. Andrew is one of those rare people who, when you're talking to him, gives you his full and undivided attention. Lots of medical people suffer from One-Foot-Out-The-Door-Disease, but Andrew isn't one of them. He takes the time to explain everything. I may not make all the right decisions, but I have all the germane information. After two potentially painful appointments, Andrew even had the courtesty, professionalism, and just plain decency to call me at home that evening to ask how I was doing. I've not had the pleasure of working with Andrew's father Thomas, but I'm sure Andrew hasn't fallen far from the tree. Imagine for a moment how much time I devoted to crafting this review and think back to the last time you were this happy with a business and the people who work there. If I could leave 0 stars, I would. I am not one to write bad reviews. My whole family came here for…read moreyears. In 2017, I got a botched root canal from them and it almost killed me. Not exaggerating. For months I went to them saying I had tooth pain all over. In 2017, one day my front big tooth was in excruciating pain - the worst pain I've ever felt. My whole face hurt so bad I didn't sleep for days until the next business day (3 days later) when I finally went to the dentist and they said my tooth had died and the root was decaying and that was the reason for the pain - all the gas was trapped in my root pocket and radiating. They did a root canal, which I've heard is supposed to be one of the worst pains in life. But let me tell you, that was the most relieving because I was numb. When they opened the tooth and removed the root, you could SMELL the decay. Immediately after, I had a little pain but was mostly numb. I asked the dentist since there was so much decay, do I need antibiotics. I asked multiple times and he insisted I didn't. That was the biggest mistake. That evening and overnight, the pain resumed, my face started to swell And I started getting a fever. I went to a different dentist the following morning and that dentist said "why on earth wouldn't he have given you an antibiotic?" He flushed the root pocket again and temporary plugged it and sent me home with an antibiotic. He said it looked like there was some infection in my facial tissue now so the antibiotics may not be strong enough, so if fever and swelling continues, go to the ER. The following day, my face swelled more and my fever and pain surged and my eye pretty much was swollen shut at this point so we went to the ER. They immediately took me back and gave me steroids, a CT scan and started vancomycin. I was admitted and held for 4 days at the hospital on high doses of vanc and it was the most miserable experience of my life. Multiple doctors said if I hadn't come in to the er when I did I could've lost my eye or died because I had such severe facial cellulitis from the root canal. After all of that, my family and I went to Kemlage and told him everything that had happened. We asked him to at least pay the hospital bills (over $1000) He refused. Jamie the hygienist is very nice but the front desk people they act like they don't care about it also Courtney is rude. I'm sorry that the dentist that owns the office has not addressed none of these issues with his staff. They don't care about their clientele. They care about $25.
