He took me, my brother, my husband Travis, and my sister n law Karen out for a 6-hour fishing trip, and it was hands-down the best charter we've ever been on. First off, he's the most reasonable captain out there -- seriously, we checked. Second, he put us right on the fish. Not "oh look, a little nibble" fish... I mean Cobia, Mutton Snapper, and Key West Mahi like he had them waiting for us with reservations. I even caught my first cobia -- 44 inches long -- and I'm still bragging about it. Captain Bryce cheered us on the whole time, helped with everything, and somehow managed to keep all of us untangled, baited, and reeling like we knew what we were doing. The man is a saint with a fishing rod. He's docked right outside Schooner Wharf Bar, which makes it dangerously convenient to celebrate afterwards. Bryce is a MUST-CALL. We're already planning to come back for a full-day trip because six hours wasn't enough for this level of awesome. Book him. Seriously. Your cooler, your photos, and your ego will thank you.

We had an eight hour fishing excursion and every moment was amazing. From the second you step in the boat, Landon is not only your captain, but your friend and guide for the day. He makes a point to get to know you and the group, what your expectations are and he delivers! Of course, boating and fishing excursions are reliant on nature, so if we went out and saw absolutely nothing, that would be no fault of Landon's. However, see things we did! We caught several barracuda and kept one that he filleted for us at the end of the evening that we marinated and grilled. Delicious in fish tacos! We stopped to snorkel and saw a sea turtle, hog fish, lobster and more! Landon does a great job balancing safety and letting you enjoy the experience. We spent some time swimming and floating before continuing on with our fishing excursion. We were able to go further out in the ocean and saw dolphins and sharks and caught several types of fish. The highlight came when we caught (and released) two Goliath grouper! Let me tell you, Landon was prepared and able to help us bring them up for a photo opp before letting them go. Wow, were we lucky to find Finz when our charter to the Dry Tortugas canceled 5 days before our…read morescheduled excursion! Luckily, Finz had availability - and gratefully, we had Captain Rob and Holly to steer us there! His communication was EXCELLENT with texts in advance to keep me informed and prepared. We took their 37' Park Shark, which comfortably sat us in a cabin with plentiful views. The ride was a bit rougher than a catamaran, but it took us from Key West to the Dry Tortugas where Holly acted as our private tour guide, sharing insights about its history while we enjoyed the migrating birds. Afterwards, we zipped into wet suits that they provided to snorkel around a sunken ship. I'd recommend bringing your own lunch, especially if you have a vegetarian or pescatarian diet, but they kindly provide plenty of snacks and ice water. The crew was professional, friendly and attentive. We arrived at Fort Jefferson before the ferry, and enjoyed a private tour without the crowds. We visited two separate dive/snorkel sites (cool wrecks!) and lunch on the beach. Not cheap, but definitely the best way to visit the island from Key West, short of buying your own boat. We wanted our own boat and captain and not the annoying aspect of sharing a boat with strangers and dealing with small talk. We specifically listed what we wanted to do: kayak, paddleboard, fish. That was precisely on our order form. We also specifically noted that snorkeling was not an option. I had a procedure on my ear and could not submerge my ear in water. We book, we pay. We call the next day to confirm because we hadn't received any notification by phone or email. Leave a message and the owner calls at 9 pm the night before our scheduled excursion the next morning. He tells us that there was a mixup online and they don't have enough boats/captains. Say what? We were pissed. It was our last day and it was too late to schedule a new excursion. My friend let him know that this was riduculous. about 30 minutes later he calls back and lets us know that it's all worked out, everything is fine, see you tomorrow morning. We show up the next morning and it was a shit show. Our captain comes in, Scruffy, and greets us. Takes us out to the dock and shows us the boat we are going to be on and that we just have to wait for the other employee to come back with the bait. We sit. Then sit some more. Next thing you know, we are introduced to a family and find out that we are all sharing a boat. WTF. We paid money for the TWO of us for a half day excurision and to have our own boat. It wasn't cheap. At all. We explained that this is wrong. We are then told that they had a large party make an appt so the other boat was reserved for them. Basically, screw you. We are making tons more money with this large party. The boat for 5 guests and the captain was a joke. 2 people could sit up front on this little boat , the other 3 sat on Yeti coolers. Scruffy explains our plan for the day: snorkeling and swimming. We chime in that snorkeling/swimming is not an option and not what we paid for and where are the kayaks and paddleboards? The FAMILY paid for an all day excursion and that's what they requested. Hence, more people and all day = more money. Both of us at that point are pissed. Scruffy says he will squeeze on paddleboards, but kayaks are going to fit. YOu know, because we were on a boat that wasn't big enough for the people on it. Then proceeds the issue regarding our half day excursion vs the family's all day excursion. Scruffy starts trying to get us to upgrade to an all day excursion so that he doesn't have to cut into the family's all day tour. We weren't about to pay more money for the shit show that was taking place and tell him too bad, we aren't doing an all day because I wasn't about to sit my ass on a boat while everyone swam and snorkeled. That wasn't what we paid for. We get on the tiny ass rinky dink boat and head out. We go to a little island. Scruff drops us off, gets the fishing gear out and takes us around a bend of the island. He drops us off in a little cove, asks if we know how to fish and then says he will be back in a few hours because he is taking the family snorkeling by a boat wreck. WTF? So the two of us are in awe. We say we need our bags, our lunch, some WATER while we are left Gilligan's Island style in some random cove. He leaves us. We start fishing. Something starts biting us. Biting us ALL.OVER. The little cove was infested with sand fleas. Both of us were covered with sand flea bites. If you know sand flea bites, you know how god awful itchy they are. We immediately got the hell out of there and went to the main part of the island/sand bar is where other charter operations were. We then proceeded to hang out waist deep in the water because I can't get my damn ear wet. About an hour/hour and half later, the boat rolls up. We tell Kermit that we couldn't fish because of the sand flea infestation. We want to paddleboard since we are stuck on this island. We paddleboard, are hanging out... and an hour later Scruffy yells to us that it's time to go because our time is up, BUT we can add another hour for an extra $100 a person. Uh, hell to the no. We paddle in. Get on the boat. The obnoxious father proceeds to push us towards staying. Obviously they didn't want to waste an hour of their time paid for the charter while schlepping is back to the dock. At this point we are furious. We did nothing but paddleboard for an hour and get bit by sand fleas and sit in water. That's it. It cost us $250 a person for that crap. Furious. we get dropped off, get in the car and my friend who booked wrote the owner Rob (? I think is his name) and told him there were major issues and to call us. Nothing that day. We call, we leave messages. Nothing. We call again. We FINALLY get an email from him. long story short, this was an expensive and unprofessional piece of garbage charter. STAY AWAY.

He took us out to the mud keys, I ended up paddle boarding and followed a friend through some mango trees and got knocked off of the board and couldn't get back on it so she went to get a rope, little did I know scruffy is on top of his game and already came searching for us due to us taking a long time to get back and he found me and helped me get situated onto the board! He then led the way back to the boat. It's definitely worth it and you'll be in good hands!! The views you get is worth it, I love the mango trees personally. The catamarans were easy to drive. Our guide was great and took pictures and shared them with us as well as the route we took. We were in a larger group and did not leave on time. The guide told us to not worry as we would get our full time on the water. He was right we spent 2 hours and 10 minutes on the water. Just that would say that they are an honest and above-board company! We took drinks and ice. They had a cooler for us to use. The navy was doing touch and goes from their base. We flew under the jets and it was one of the coolest things that I have done. You could almost reach out and touch the planes with how low that they were flying. The staff was courteous and gave us all the needed instructions we would need for the day. The boat was clean, gassed up and ready to go. We had a blast exploring the area and reefs around Key West. The Boat performed and ran great. Me and my wife have rented boats before and never have we encountered a staff as professional and courteous as the people working at Boat Rentals of Key West and their boats are in very good condition and obviously well maintained. In the future, we will be back to Key West and we will only rent a boat from Boat Rentals of Key West. Thanks again for the great service. Our boat rental was the highlight of our key West trip.

I never leave bad reviews, but in this case it was absolutely necessary. - "Boat Rentals of Key West" is a broker, but does not disclose at time of booking. After making a deposit on phone, we were sent to pickup our boat at a place called "Paradise Boat Rentals" at Murray Marine on Stock Island. - We arrived at Paradise Boat Rentals at 1pm where final payment was charged. Upon which, the owner "Rocky" recommended he guide us through the narrow channels to main water. Very shallow area that surrounded the location. - When we hit open waters, Rocky waived us through and we were on our way. 35 minutes later, the boat broke down. From 1st contact, it took them 3 hours to come assist us. - By 5:15pm, we had everything swapped over to a replacement boat. We used this replacement boat to tow Rocky 45 minutes closer to KW (out of courtesy). - It was cloudy, windy and the water was very choppy that day, not to mention, we were in a flat bottom deck boat. It was extremely rough to say the least, and we still had to make it back to Murray on Stock Island. - By 6:45pm we could barely see. We realize at this time, the replacement boat has NO lights and NO navigation device. My wife calls Rocky on his cell, and explained we were about 500 yards from his marina, but needed an assist due to no lights or nav - it was not safe trying to navigate the narrow channels without someone experienced with such area. He begins screaming at her and accusing us of being intoxicated. I get on the phone and he begins cursing "I know what F...n games you are playing", "I'm not coming to help you", "Just wait until you get here and see who you are messing with", etc, etc. I explain to him that 3 of us on the boat, including driver had not taken 1 sip of alcohol that day. - At this point, due to the situation and the threats from Rocky, we pulled over to a bulk-headed area and called the local authorities. They agreed we should not drive the boat as it was very dangerous to do so without lights. They then helped return the boat and coordinated our vehicle pickup from Murray. At 9:30pm, we were finally returning to our hotel. - We are now going through the channels of dispute with our credit card company for right at $400 in charges (from both this broker and Paradise rentals)! Rant over. Proceed with caution.
