An insult to anyone and everyone living in Beacon. How they DARE to offer absolutely nothing, but charge everything for the privilege is a mystery understood fully by the Key Food Corporation. The closest Whole Foods, nicknamed by many, "Whole Pay Check," is now much less expensive than the Key Food in Beacon. Some items that I like to purchase regularly are 50% more and one item is actually twice as expensive. Then their produce department is a shambles. The greens are hours away from rot, there's mold on the fruit and the apples are frequently soft and mushy. So I make a 30 mile drive to Whole Foods to get what I really want and use Key Food primarily for toilet paper. They should rename the store, "Key Toilet Paper." This scathing critic aside, the staff is lovely. There's a market for a good grocery store in Beacon. Key Food is a real disappointment to the community and should be replaced by something much better. read more

Way too expensive. Monopolizes on the fact that they're the only grocer in in Beacon so they pretty much charge about double compared to what you would expect at a typical grocery store , even with their "generic brands". read more

I drove up from East Harlem to spend a weekend in Beacon. Key Foods was the first place I stopped. I was taken aback by how dark and run down the inside of this store was; worse than any that I've seen in the city. The selection was also limited, and there were quite a number of completely bare shelves. And a number of items were priced significantly higher. read more

So upset I was charged $15 for ONE can of Lysol spray I didn't know it until I got home!! Will be reporting for price gouging!!

Key Foods Beacon is everything that is right about a local grocery. The owners and staff are polite, helpful, and always welcoming. I have watched this store transition over 14 years into a great source for fresh bread and baked goods, organic fruit/vegetables, and so much more. The store is clean and is continually being updated, you can tell the owners invest back into the business. Best of all, they support and care about the community they do business in. read more

Once again another review based mainly on the incredibly friendly and helpful staff!! Last summer I needed my license renewed (15 min at the beacon DMV and done!!!) and I was having trouble with that points of ID business. When I called the DMV they suggested I get a check cashing card at a supermarket to provide the extra point I needed. So I looked up where I could get one - key foods. The first one I thought of was the one in my old neighborhood on Ave A. Here's what happened there: I was on hold for 25 min then got hung up on, I called back and made it through to a person who berated me and hung up on me when I asked if they had check cashing cards as it said they did online. Here's what happened when I remembered that the Beacon food jobber I liked so much was a key foods: I called and immediately talked to someone. She totally understood my situation but thought that even though they were listed online as a place to get a check cashing card the they might not in fact do that. She went to ask the manager and then went to check her OWN WALLET TO READ THE FINE PRINT ON THE BACK OF HER VERY OWN KEY FOODS CARD!!! come on, is that personal attention or what? We eventually decided that they no longer granted these ID cards and that they had stopped doing it about 10 years ago. She even had other suggestions as to what I could use for ID points. Now that's friendly personalized service! Things like this have happened to me every single time I go in there. My husband has some real doozies from there too. I do wish they had a little more produce, and if they did I would do all my shopping there! The produce they do have tends to be good and often a sort of interesting selection. I would rather take a walk over to the friendliest supermarket in town that jump in the car to go to shop rite or Adams any day!!! read more

I'm a fan! I love the convenience of having this grocery store right here in town. I can get everything I need and be in and out in 15 minutes tops. If I pay a few more dollars for my purchase it's fine by me b/c I didn't have to spend 30 minutes driving to and from Fishkill to grab a few items for dinner. Oh, and the kettle corn that they do fresh on the weekends it DELICIOUS! read more

This is the only key food I know of being outside of the 5 boroughs, but you wouldn't be able to tell with their prices. They take full advantage of the fact that they're the only grocery store in a small city with a number of people who lack the means of transportation to get to Walmart or cheaper options. I understand that a small grocery store is always going to cost a little more than a larger retailer, but the items they have here resemble a place like Whole Foods more than anything else. The only other place I've seen things like $12 "artisanal" cream cheese or a $15 jar of pasta sauce. If they wanted an example of what they could & should be like, they can look at Market Fresh (associated supermarket) in Newburgh & Poughkeepsie. The same size store, with an affordable variety of products for everyone. I'm pretty sure they know, & don't care. The 2 stars are for the fresh bagels & bread that are delivered from a Bronx bakery every morning. The best item there & only reason that keeps me coming back outside of a convenient 5 minute drive from home. read more

Haven't stop there in a while - but looks like they have renovated a year ago or so. last visit was a pleasant surprise. place was clean, had a lot of nice looking produce, gluten free cereals and other items cheaper then in a whole food store. will be back when in the area read more

Surprised with how trendy Beacon is, that this food store seems so outdated. Prices are super high for what you're getting. I hear from some staff members that they are working to update their produce area with more organic products at better prices which is great! Always have found the produce staff to be very helpful, most of the older cashier workers are great, always pleasant, I cannot say the same about the younger cashiers. It seems like you're always interrupting the younger staff when you happen to end up in their line. I actually had one young lady with long hair roll her eyes at me and throw my things in a bag when the manager asked her to get to her line when she was checking/texting on her cellphone. I'll go to Key Food in a pinch (A real pinch), otherwise I go across the river to Price Chopper or Adams. I actually save money (even with paying the bridge toll and gas) read more

Beacon needs a grocery store that has a bit more. Many citizens of Beacon go to Adams in Newburgh or Fishkill for food. For such a nice sized town, there should be a store that suits the needs of the community. The staff are very friendly and I have had great experiences with the store, just the produce and selection is not up to standards. read more

Kind of a bodega, kind of a grocery store. High prices, low quality. I found a spider in my bag of grapes the other day. Is this the stores fault or the brand? Well before that I found a spider in a green pepper of mine. How lucky could I really be? If I am in a pinch, I'll pop in here. For my week of groceries I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I've been taking Mom shopping there for years and it never stops improving! They just got in a whole aisle of new freezers. Produce is nice with a good selection and prices are competitive. The selection of deli products in this aisle is varied and tempting. Everytime I go, I find new products in each aisle. We have fun looking for them. If there is something that you don't see and you ask management for it, they immediately look on their lists to see if they can get it for you. Not only are they accommodating, they are all so pleasant as well. It's nice to be able to find someone right away to answer questions for you. The store is always very clean. Sale pricing is excellent! Regular pricing isn't bad considering the size of the store. It seems to become more competitive with time. Beacon should be happy with their excellent provider of food. Key Food also has a once a year appreciation of their customers day with entertainment and free food. I missed it this year, but last year was really nice. With Key Food, you're not only treated like a valued customer, but you're treated like family. I'm updating this because the store is looking better all the time - selection, quality, and pricing. Yes, the look has improved; yet, one expects to see clean floors and bright lights in a market. The produce seems to spoil quickly, and prices on most items are higher than the chain supermarkets outside of Beacon. The outside by the bottle return and trash really are a turn off, and I hesitate before going in. I would never do a full shopping there. read more

New management has improved store interior, but it's reflected in high prices. Atmosphere is akin to a police state. Several times I've been watched by some bearded males. Why? Have no idea. Seems like they are paranoid about theft. I once saw an older man stop a Black teen as he was leaving. He asked the kid what he was looking for. The kid had nothing on him. It was summer. Maybe he left because he didn't like the high prices. The cashiers are friendly, however, and are reminiscent of the old Key Food. read more
