An excellent, professionally run supermarket. Pretty old, although you wouldn't know it when shipping; the place is immaculate. Although it is not as large as some markets that are behemoths, its shelves are alerts packed and beautifully merchandised. There are always employees roaming to help, and plenty of checkout lines open. Sales every week of course, and a huge parking lot. Dunkin' within. read more

Wow. In the middle of all this madness, the staff here has really stepped up to support their customers and the neighborhood. This was my local childhood supermarket. (I even remember when it was a Walbaums.) Obviously it has been renovated and is a pretty well laid out inviting store. My father still lives in the area, and cannot go shopping right now due to health risks. This week, when I could not get to Mill Basin to bring him groceries, the team there went above and beyond to get him everything he needed, packed in a way he'd be able to lift, assuring me that they would be careful and hygienic every step of the way. It was such a relief to have this kind, thoughtful crew bring him everything he needed in such an uncertain time. Key food gets a 3...I mean their staff is always nice so maybe a 4...but really a three. Because there isn't much of a selection of things that i normally would get here. It's a fairly nice key food compared to many others around Brooklyn which are absolute dog shit. They recently renovated it and changed the exterior and it's much nicer than before. It almost looks a bit like a house from the outside and they ALWAYS decorate for the holidays. It's the closest grocery store to my house which makes it very convenient for me. It's nice inside, the cashiers are nice and so are the rest of the staff. They have a decent variety but you know, it's not a Whole Foods or a Back to Earth, however it does the job. What I like the most was when checking out, the cashiers help pack the bags. I still don't understand why that was stopped when you had to bring your own bags or buy them. My last incident at Key Food: I rolled up to the express lane to be met by a cashier who reminded me of Jack Nicholson's Joker. It wasn't just the eyebrows that made her look sinister. I said HI, and she looked through me. I knew this was going downhill quick. She rang up my stuff, which included four small oranges. Beep. Beep. Ding. Beep. The register read: 88 ORANGES... $44.00. I pointed this out to her. She said "UH OH!" and scowled. She rang it up again, but this time she rang them up as the LARGE oranges. I said "Miss, they are the small oranges!" She shook her head no no no. I asked her if I could show her and she acquiesced. I pointed to the SMALL ORANGES and she stared for a moment. Then walked back to the register and rang me up again. I couldn't resist. "Wow. You really hate oranges." She glared at me like Jack Nicholson Joker, but the anger faded quickly. First time at that specific location and it was good. Key Food are everywhere in Brooklyn and they carry fresh groceries. I think that they are little pricey in some of their groceries, but you do get fresh grocery so I am OK with paying little exerts and in return get quality. Overall the store is clean and the check out process is fast and smooth. I will return here. read more

Convenient supermarket with large parking lot. The cashiers and stock guys are mostly nice, helpful, and friendly. Watch for the sales because so items can be overpriced. Here's why the 2 stars. The deli station which was revamped many years ago started out great. There once fresh cold cuts, salads, and hot food with deli workers and managers who knew what they were doing, turned into a hot mess. The guys that they have working there mostly new since no one seems to last longer than a month are either not trained well or don't give a crap. There cold cut cutting skills are lacking, they spend more time talking to each other than helping out the long line of customers, they spray windex onto glass display case when there is food exposed or inside the glass case. They use and spray windex in front of meats to kill flies. I witness one employee using the same serving spoon for the tuna salad to scoop up chicken salad (not good especially for allergic customers). I bought fresh mozzarella there and it was spoiled therefore I don't trust the freshness of any of there food in their display case. I no longer by meats from them as well besides being over priced, the quality is borderline mediocre. Besides if you walk by the doors to the back of the butcher area, the smell coming from there can wake the dead. Such a shame because the store itself can be a one-stop shop. read more

Still suffering from cabin fever lhad just left one Key Food store that left a bad taste in my mouth. I was was on a roll and It was near a Pizzeria I wanted to go to. This Key Food stood out like a well lit Christmas tree. Lots of parking and fully stocked. I could actually turn my cart around in the aisle. It was a beautiful store, well stocked. The fruits and veggies were beautiful. Nice and fresh, the meats were beautiful. I actually purchased lamb chops they were so pretty and fresh. I was greeted upon arrival and found everyone to be quite friendly. I actually had not eaten lamb chops close to 20 years or more. I am not usually a Key Food fan but I became one this cold winter night. The only thing I found odd is that I do have a Key Food card , but when l tried to use it , my card was rejected. Did the last Key Food I was at have drone following me ?. Lol No, they have their own Key Food card that can be used only for their store. The young man at customer service told to come see him when l finished my purchase and it was all good. I will definitely be back and BTW, my lamb chops were delish. read more

While this Key Food has quite a bit of variety, I don't feel it's worth the heartache of having to shop there. Most of the staff, including managers, are extremely rude and don't seem to care too much about customer service. I have had multiple episodes where I had been told rude comments and wasn't helped at all. Once, when I was 9 months pregnant, I accidentally bumped into the candy station next to my checkout line and dropped a pack of gum. The manager was passing by as this happened, looked at me dead in the eye and said, "You better pick that up." However, the biggest disappointment of this store is definitely the prices. They are OUTRAGEOUS! They were previously one of the only options in the area so they probably felt like they could do that but that isn't the case any longer, which is why I have completely boycotted this Key Food. I won't even go there in an emergency. If you like to be abused by staff or very angry older shoppers, then this place if for you! My go to spot for fresh and affordable produce! I have been going to this location for years, ever since I moved to the area. The staff are friendly and polite. For the most part are too busy working to be annoying, which is good! I usually shop on the outer aisles of the (fruits and veggies and meats and diary). Everything in between the aisle can get really expensive. You can find cheaper elsewhere. However recently there is a young chick who works the express line on the weekends who is rude as fuck! They know what they are doing! I have been shopping at key foods for years now, and I always get good products. What I like about key food that they have products for range of prices, so if you want to pay .99 cent for pond of peaches, or 1.99, it is up to you. They have a great section of breads, from many different kinds, and always the freshest and delicious fruit section. They have free huge parking lot, which makes it the ideal place for me. read more

I 've been going to this keyfood for over twenty years. Now that the make over has been completed I find that improvements have been made through out every department. Who ever designed and did the layout should be commended because the aisles are wide and fuctional yet very modern. I was admiring the deli department with all the new imported showcases and LED track lighting, when one of the counter person politely asked me if I needed help. He took my order and prepared my deli meats and used very respectful language like "yes sir,& no sir" It really wasn't necessary but I was duely impressed. Then as I checked out, I was rung up by a very young yet professional cashier who was really into his job. Who ever trained all the employees did a magnificient job. Everyone knew their places and their specific roles and more importantly there was no more groups of friends hanging out near the register. Back then, you felf like you were imposing on their conversation by being on their line. Throughout the store, it looks as if no detail has been overlooked and a great deal of engergy has gone into setting up each of the departments. Even in the parking lot, there is a awning by the shopping cart pound that clearly give instruction on the finer etiquette of cart usage. BTW, their bagels are the best in town. Can you imagine that? Two stars because the delivery guy was awesome. He carried all that food up and it was heavy. Christine took my order. She assisted me with tipping the delivery guy. I'll admit she was alert and on point. She informed me that the prices on the internet were old. I overlooked my order and didn't notice the item count was wrong on a few things. When I called back I was met with an attempt at sounding ghetto, "what's up?". I immediately told her her tone of voice was unacceptable. She stayed quiet. This Key Food is pretty decent, with fresh produce, a deli, cheese shop, and a good overall selection including a nice variety of international foods. This is a city supermarket, and the aisles are VERY narrow. People push and don't pay attention, and it can get frustrating. Avoid coming here on a Sunday! One negative of this market is that mostly teenagers work here and some have yet to grasp the concept of good customer service. Management needs to stress the importance of manners and paying attention to the customer. This is my local supermarket and I don't really have many options in the area, so I will continue to come here. I'm not trying to give this place a harsh review, just being honest. They did a major renovation recently and they have improved a great deal. There is a Dunkin Donuts inside. The deli staff is always friendly and courteous. Spoiled products!!! Grated cheese always moldy, chicken always smells rotten and the red meat normally has a new expiration date sticker slapped on the older one. Their produce is always soaking wet and doesn't last more than a day. The deli manager is so rude! The cashiers are always to busy gossiping about some blonde sleeping with the manager, that they don't even realize that they double charge you for an item half the time. This place has done a complete 180. It used to be overtly creepy, but the new renovation is fantastic! The store is clean, well-lit and has an amazing variety of fresh vegetables, meat and everything you could look for in a supermarket, along with a bunch of lovely gourmet items. I've lived in Mill Basin my whole life and this place used to be so gross. Cramped, dirty, terrible selection. A few years ago they renovated the whole place and it completely changed. The floors are clean! The produce section is organized and bright! The selection has seriously improved and I can always find what I need. I love this store since it was recently totally remodeled. It is always clean, neat and well stocked. The food is fresh and the prices are good. It also accepts telephone orders and delivery is free. I usually tip the driver $5 since I live on the second floor and he has to carry my week's groceries up the stairs. The girls who take my order are very busy but remain very polite and get my order filled correctly every time. I miss visiting this beautiful new store but I'm very spoiled by the wonderful home delivery. read more
