This letter I sent to Eisenhower Patient Relations tells why I'm giving Dr. Wong this one-star review: To Eisenhower Patient Relations, The letter I sent to Dr. Wong through the portal, yesterday, summarizes the medical situation that I just went through: Dr. Wong, when I came to see you about what I thought was piriformis syndrome, with that large swollen area over the muscle, you gave me a Toradol shot, trigger point injection and sent me to PT, none of which helped, after which you referred me to Sports Med to get an MRI. In hindsight, sadly, all those pre-referral treatments probably aggravated the actual cause. The MRI revealed that I'd actually TORN my gluteus maximus, one-third of it, and there was a large fluid pocket above it that needed to be aspirated. Aspiration led to suspicion that the material in the fluid pocket was something requiring more testing and two days later, sports doc called me to say come into the hospital immediately, that fluid is a massive staph infection! I was released from Eisenhower Medical on Sunday after being admitted on Friday evening. Still on heavy antibiotics with a drainage tube and bag attached to my upper right butt. Swelling and pain, alone, can be a warning sign of a staph infection, according to medical literature, a warning sign sometimes mistaken as strictly muscle pain. At my age, that should have justified, for insurance, an immediate MRI that would have led to a quicker resolution and not put me at further risk of the staph getting deep into my muscles or my blood stream. Next time you see a patient with similar symptoms, you'll now know that there's the possibility of Staph as well as other options. In the time between Dr. Wong's missed diagnosis and the time the staph was infected and I was hospitalized was all time when I wasn't being treated for an infection at all - so it got worse. I ended up with a too-near-death experience. I loved the other docs involved - Dr. Sanchez, Dr. Chang the interventional radiologist - but I think Dr. Wong missed this diagnosis big time and the hospital should take appropriate steps. Took over a month to get appointment. But once I was in things went smoothly. We did have a glitch in our relationship as doctor/patient... but I'm not shy and very much advocate for my own health. He was a little snarky on a comment I made and I sent a strongly worded email after my appointment. He called me and apologized and listened to what I had to say. A couple of days later I had some questions and told him if he'd like me to see someone else, I understand. No, he suggested what our next move should be asked how I felt, any questions I had and it all made perfect sense to me. I had improved since seeing him so I really didn't want to start again. In my 63 years I've only had 2 doctors apologize to me... Dr Wong being one. Drs are not perfect... I could even tell he was especially busy and I'm sure very stressed that day. He's human. And he apologized like a human. He's knowledgeable and will show you everything and describe in detail what is going on read more

Delay, delay, delay....nothing but delays. I've never seen anything like it. 7 months before I received my first injection. Improved to minimum two months after I make an appointment. Oh, that's if I can get cardiology to sign off on stopping baby aspirin one week prior to injections. No doctor has ever asked another doctor to sign off on this before. The doc simply tells me to stop aspirin for seven days prior to injections. Of course, another two weeks (and counting) have passed since my cardiologist was contacted. I've called twice And am assured he is signing today. While I waited 7 months for my first injection Wong wanted this image then that image. (MRI) Months between office visits. Thousands in co pays later Wong injected me in exactly the same place previous docs have. Each time I visited Dr. Wong he wanted me to urinate for a drug test. 5 urine tests in 7 months? All came back normal. Dr. Wong is milking Medicare, in my opinion. He cares nothing of a persons pain and misery. What is going on in this office? I think I know. Dan read more

Stay far away from this SADIST. I believe that he withholds medication from his patients just so he can watch them suffer. It's criminal to put one man in charge of the lives of people who depend upon him so they can lead a somewhat normal life pain free. There is no pain free with dr. Wong. Remember , he is the pain doctor and he will make sure you are in pain. read more

An "I LOVE LUCY" chocolate wrapping factory assembly line operation episode with no laughs. This doc performs 35 epidurals in one day, according to an RN on site. I had a cervical (neck) epi today which, when it was finished, I COULD NOT SPEAK AND COULD NOT COUGH. NO DISCLOSURE AS A POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECT, WRITTEN OR VERBAL. Wong said it's "likely the lidocaine only after two techs/nurses asked "can you breath/swallow?" I was panicked, shocked. I then was counseled to "call if it persisted." We asked WHOM TO CALL? Blank faces responded: "Emergency I guess." COMMUNICATION/KINDNESS WHOLLY INSUFFICIENT . No one later called to ask after me, including Wong. I later recovered unknown to them. Poorly run office. Didn't check vitals. Whenever I visit an "Eisenhower Owned/Cloned Office," all vitals are taken--weight, BP, temp, oxygen. Dr was running 1 hr behind my appt time. Wasn't informed until 45 mins of waiting. Then for him to make-up his time lost and get to the 3 other patients after me, he rushed through my appt. Another Eisenhower faux-pas, as usual!!! Since when has it become acceptable to refuse medical service to one of your patients? I understand why a patient would lose confidence in a Dr. and find another, but this method of avoidance is new to me. My first experience with Dr. Kevin Wong, at Desert Orthopedic was very pleasant and informative. He recommended cervical ablation. When I showed up for the procedure, his assistant explained this procedure wasn't possible because I was unable to "recreate the pain". When he came into the stall, I was visibly upset. I asked him why he didn't inform me that I would need to perform this exercise in pain in order to have the procedure. Why was I here? He hemmed and hawed and looked embarrassed. I started to ask questions. He said he would continue to treat me, but it seemed to him there was a lack of trust. Uh, yeah! A week later I received a CERTIFIED letter in the mail stating I was denied medical service from the firm! I'm from a smallish town in Montana, where everyone knows most of the doctors and the doctors know each other. If a physician there were to deny medical care to any of their patients who paid their bill and was sick or in pain, he or she would be run out of town. It's hard enough to negotiate health care and insurance, but this is beyond unacceptable and a complete overreaction. read more

So, I had my first appointment with Dr. Wong today, I had high hopes, but instead I left there in tears. I am between insurances, and I feel like I was punished for being a cash pay patient when I should have insurance and its not my fault that it got canceled but should be up by the end of the month. They judged me before they even knew my diagnosis, which they did not even ask or what medications I'm taking and that I've been on for seven years. A second nurse came in and told me that the doctor does not prescribe pain medication to a cash pay patient. Then why did they make me an appointment in the first place. I do not understand why they made my appointment I have never been made to feel like a pain med seeker. I have legitimate diagnosis and have dealt with chronic pain for more than half my life and the only thing that helps is pain medication and steroids, I've tried everything else from epidurals to RFA's which I would do again because they bring me from a high nine down to a seven. It's sad that we are treated this way and made to feel bad when all we need is a little help. This is the reason we are in an opioid crisis because we get turned away and where do most people go, they go to the streets to get help, so they are not monitored like we are as pain patients and many end up overdosing or move up to real street drugs. read more

Saw Dr. Wong one year ago with some intense pain going down my leg into foot. He seemed to know immediately what the problem was and scheduled an epidural. It worked beautifully. I was a real happy camper as I was going an extended trip and went pain free. My communications with him have been excellent thru MyChart. I found him to be a jovial and communicative person. read more

Dr. Wong listens, and is eager to help with pain management. He seems to really care, and I feel very comfortable with him.

Dr Wong has been my pain management doctor for a bit now and I highly recommended him. For me he explains my treatment plan fully which allows me to make an informed discussion on how to proceed. He is also a very nice person who always has a smile and genuinely cares about his patients.. the office staff and nurses are also very nice people I highly recommend Dr Wong and his office. read more

I started seeing Dr. Wong after I moved to PS from across the country. I had a terrible flare up with my back and was recommended by an Orthopedic Dr to start attending a pain clinic and Dr Wong in particular. I'm hesitant to see new doctors because it usually takes awhile to find one that seems to work with you, especially when dealing with pain, but considering I was new to the area, I didn't have a choice. I knew right away that I was going to like Dr Wong. He talks to you and explains things until you understand. He listens when I talk and doesn't try to rush me out (which is extremely important to me). He always offers suggestions about how to help my pain, but ultimately I decide which path I want to take. I read an earlier review about Dr Wong not responding to MyChart or answering questions. I ALWAYS hear back within a day or so. I don't usually write reviews, but Dr Wong definitely deserves it. read more

He genuinely cares for his patients and getting to the root of what exactly is wrong for me. I couldn't be more grateful to have found a doctor like this. He approved my requests for MRI both times on the same exact day I asked for them. He always returns my calls or messages. He always explains test results to the best of his ability. If he can't treat me for something than he always refers me out. I've never had someone get me approved for MRI or for a referral as quickly as Dr. Wong. It's obvious he knows Exactly what he is doing and his work ethic is impeccable. He is polite, professional and caring to all his patients. PAY NO MIND TO NEGATIVE REVIEWS, THEY ARE LIKELY FROM DRUG ADDICTS WHO HE REFUSES TO CATER TO. He has given me many different options to help cope with my different ailments such as physical therapy and chiropractor referrals. He did this without me having to ask. He does the best he can and it means the world to me because I know he is a brilliant physician and with excellent bedside manner. I absolutely recommend him if you are looking for a primary care doctor for yourself or your loved one. THANK YOU for giving me my life back, Dr. Wong. Without you I'd be laying in bed all day (due to extreme pain/weakness and the stress/frustration/depression that comes with being in constant pain) being unproductive and not getting anywhere. Thanks to him I have the motivation to get up everyday work and now enrolling in school since I'm not in pain I will be able to concentrate and accomplish my goals.
