When you can't even get someone on the phone. IF you can even find a number on web site. (everything is by email). Then set appointment time that they don't honor, if someone "signs in" before you even with a later appointment schedule. They get called in first. Ive waited over 1 hour to get in. With a morning first appointment. Does not make for a great experience. To then pay over $200+ out of pocket for 5 min consult to then get your prescription refilled is ridiculous. This practice has become all about profits and not patient care. Find another hormone special who does more than say "Everything is good. Here's your refill. See you in 6 months" read more

I've been dealing with Dr. Shelton for a little over a year. I was referred to him by a friend that is also a patient. He actually listens to me and how I'm feeling, double checks my blood work every 6 months and make sure everything looks normal. Unlike in other reviews I've seen he has NEVER pushed packages on me. He has made a few recommendations after I have made comments of what I was dealing with (shoulder pain etc.) In fact he has actually kinda winced and said "what you are asking about is really expensive and you probably won't see the benefits for the costs". His office visit fee is reasonable in comparison to any other doctor or hormone therapy program. Great bedside manner. I have referred a few friends to him as well. read more

I am surprised by the lower number of stars; Dr. Kevin Shelton is great! My guess is that patients who want or need a lot of hand-holding may not be enthralled by his style. I have a fair amount of medical knowledge for a lay-person (I was a Paramedic for the Dallas Fire Department), and this practice is perfect for me! Blood-work and labs when I need them, without any extra trips to simply line his pockets. He is quick to refer me to any specialist I need, and his info has been spot-on so far. My husband is a patient of Dr Shelton, and really likes him. I do as well. HOWEVER, the horrendous (and I do mean horrendous) office staff makes it downright maddening to give this practice our money, but unfortunately, for my husband's condition, he's pretty much the only game in town, as previously stated in other reviews. For starters, they never answer their phone, and I mean NEVER. Not even a voicemail to leave a message but a good ole' busy signal. Our pharmacy can't get through, and neither can patients trying to verify appointment times--please note, you'll be charged a $25 no-show fee if you miss one, even through you've tried for 3 weeks to get through their admittedly lousy phone system. When my husband finally decided to show up, because he couldn't get through on the phone, he was told by the office manager "we have 5 phone lines and 3 people to answer them, you do the math." .....seriously?! The office manager will argue with you and tell you "not to roll your eyes" (I almost died) and instead of apologizing for their horrible admin, took a rude, highly offensive tone, basically telling my husband that his option was to deal with it. Wow. Beyond the front desk is the doc's oh-so-personable mother in law, working as one of the back office nurses. She'll talk over you and speak to you like you're 5, or go in the other room and talk about you so loudly that everyone can hear. Her demeanor is that of someone who thoroughly hates their job. It's truly a circus. Doc Shelton really does care about his patients and everyone that we know truly likes HIM. It's just such a shame that his office staff creates such an embarrassingly horrid environment for him to work in that his patients can't ever appreciate him for the physician he is. read more

There are doctors that provide excellent service. They return phone calls promptly, keep their word, know what they're talking about, and don't keep you waiting in the lobby for an hour. Their office is ran efficiently, and they don't lose records. They do not need 5 calls to remind them to do something they promised months ago. these doctors do not bill you a hundred bucks for diagnosing your son's runny nose. Yes, these doctors do exist. BUT, this is not one of them. He's the only game in town. Think Mayberry RFD with Goober running the office and Barney diagnosing your ailments.. What's even more pathetic is his complete inability to keep his word and return a call. Shameful. This has been my experience. Don't let it be yours. read more

He's does not even deserve one star. Got my blood tests done, I'm a previous patient and he/them want me to buy a "package" deal they have. I am on very specific medications and they will NOT refill my prescriptions... I've never known or dealt with such a shady doctors office. I had a great experience. Called and made an appointment with no issues. The lady answering the phone was very nice and even called me the day before my appointment to remind me. The day of I arrived 10 min early and was walking to the back to see the doctor at my appointment time...never had that happen at a doctors office before! Shelton is great, and he is a physician that wants to help you. As a male looking for the life of feeling younger and performing better he definitely helps in that regard. The staff over the years could have used some improvement, but now I think he has it set up correctly with who he has in certain positions. And labs are easily drawn in the office as well. Dr. Kevin Shelton is a super nice guy. Very nice. Great bedside manners. Very easy to talk to. And as a patient for past 5 years I can attest to his abilities. The practices problems all involve his staff and particularly his office manager. She recently changed their procedures to require upfront payment and patient file to get reimbursed because she is stopping all medical billing and filing with various insurance carriers. I had to see a new primary care doctor because of her recent change in procedures. I had problems before with staff over other issues during my 5 years there but Kevin always told me to just ignore them and I did but today that changed because the front desk became a gatekeeper denying services without payment upfront. I'd recommend to all of my friends (that I haven't already) he even gave me a secondary way to get directly into contact with him as busy as he stays at his practice. I agree that Dr. Shelton himself is wonderful, however, his entire staff will eventually put him out of business. He came highly recommended to me but I was warned in advance that the staff NEVER answers the phone or returns phone calls. I decided to give them a chance and like I was told, it took me weeks of repeatedly calling and finally the receptionist answered my call on accident as she was trying to call out. I made the appt and chose to drive 5 hours for an appt to see him. You only have to see him every 6 months, how bad could it be right? I sat in a crowded lobby watching the receptionist completely ignore the phone ringing off the wall while she chatted with patients or just sat there. I also witnessed two patients physically come in to inquire as to why they won't answer their phones. Dr. Shelton is very knowledgeable and I was pleased with him, however, my 6 month appt came around and I went in to do the bloodwork again. The staff failed to order the correct bloodwork so I drove 5 hours to find out that it was a wasted trip. I also paid an extra $25 dollars per prescription to have them call the pharmacy to make sure my insurance would pay for the meds. They never followed through so my insurance would not cover the prescriptions but they never refunded the $50 I paid for the service. Once again, I called and called for months trying to get through to them. I left countless messages and have yet to receive a call back. I'm done and will never recommend them to anyone. read more

Terrible service. Took THREE WEEKS to answer the phone, They sent labs to an OUT OF NETWORK lab, now requesting I pay 700$ Even when my ins. covers common lab locations such as LabCorp. Let me just start by saying Dr. Shelton is a great doctor. My husband really likes him and IF you can get in to see him, it is worth it. That being said, his office staff is ATROCIOUS. They NEVER answer the phone or return phone calls. I have been in the waiting room and have seen the girl at the desk COMPLETELY ignore the phone. I have seen patients walk in unannounced just to try to get someone to help them because nobody will answer the phone or return a call. He booked his appointment 6 months in advance and was told that he will need to have labwork completed before his office visit. Scheduled with a lab and went to the appointment; lab could not do the requested labs because they had received nothing from Dr. Shelton's office. Tried calling for 20 minutes with no answers. Gave up and told the lab we would have to reschedule. Since then we have both been calling Dr. Shelton's office multiple times a day to try to get them to please send the lab request to the lab for the tests they want completed. We have left numerous messages and have received NO responses. How exactly are we supposed to have lab work completed BEFORE the office visit if the office won't send the request to the lab? We live an hour away from the office and can't exactly just pop in to try to get help. HORRIBLE office staff. HORRIBLE. read more

1 star for the admin staff and 5 stars for Dr Shelton. I gave a 1 star hoping Dr Shelton or his admin staff looks at Yelp. Everything they say about the admin staff is true. Very very weak. They claim to get 300 phone calls per day. How would they know? They don't answer their phone. I was standing right with the receptionist and she let the phone ring for over 10 minutes without picking it up. And she was not very busy. She was talking with another co-worker. None of them cared that the phone was ringing non-stop. Now I know why none of my calls got answered. Forget leaving a message...they don't check them. I called and left 8 messages with no return call. If you want to make an appointment you have to do it in person. Dr Shelton is not your typical Doc. And people who have written reviews are correct. He is worth the trouble. He is very busy. Too bad his admin staff can't be as good as he is. Bottom line is if you are willing to be persistent and ignore how rude and unprofessional their staff is and you are willing to drive all the way to Ceilina to set an appointment in person then Dr Shelton is worth it. Very knowledgeable and gives you his personal number and responds to text messages in seconds. Stop on by to make an appointment and don't let the Soup Notzis bring you down. read more

It is a nice office. The staff seems okay. Dr.Shelton is a very nice man and doctor, and no offense to him but his receptionist is the worst receptionist I have ever seen in my life. Terry I believe her name is, absolutely never answers phone calls or returns them. It's also almost impossible to get in touch with the lab in order to get your lab results. I am surprised this office even has any clients considering you can never get in touch with them to make an appointment, or even can keep their clients since you can't get in touch with them to get your lab results. Though they say it's a "busy office" I've been to busier and they actually have made a point to make sure that their patients have their attention and make sure they get their results. To sum it up. I recommend that they find a better more suitable receptionist, and a more suitable lab to give results. read more

Dr. Shelton is a great guy and knows what he's doing and thinks outside of the box. The office and staff are a different subject all together. Let's go over the facts - He's kind of a specialist in his area (HRT) and popular with his patients. This makes him a busy guy and scheduling an appointment is tough at times. His office has ongoing phone/fax/computer issues all the time. Getting someone to answer the phone or return a call is like waiting to hit the lotto - probably not going to happen. The staff is probably working through these difficulties but they should have had this sorted out a long time ago. The bottom line is he's a great doc if you can tolerate the issues that go with it. If waiting 30 minutes to see a doctor is a problem, find someone else and save yourself the headache. read more

This could be the worst office in history. They will not return phone calls. I was a patient for 3 years until I got a bill for simple blood work for 19,000.00. I asked at the office and they told me to not worry about it that I don't have to pay it. I have since been contacted by collection service threatening me. I have tried to call the office to find out what in the hell cost 19,000.00 for simple blood work. They have not returned my calls for over a year. Do not go to this office. read more

Fact: Dr. Kevin Shelton and his wife Stephanie are very nice people. I enjoy going to them and they take care of my needs. When I make my appointment 6 months in advance, I get seen. Fact: When they first moved here, there was a need for a family practitioner and they WERE the answer, hands down! Fact: Over the past 3 years, the office took a nose dive into the ground. There is no organization in the office and communications to patients is ZERO! If I got sick and needed a prescription, I don't even know why I called....they are over booked, and no way to "work" you in. Instead back then, I had to go to the costly ER. That sucked, but I didn't have a choice, my doctor wouldn't see me. Fact: Today, the office is impossible to get a hold of a human being. You either leave a voice message or send them a letter by snail mail. I have left messages, and no one has returned a call yet? What the heck????? Fact: I am so stressed out by not being able to talk to someone about my care or change my medications or make an appointment, I have no choice but to leave Dr. Shelton. I have no clue if he even knows this is going on. Fact: If you are ill, and you need to see someone that day? Go to CVS in Prosper and a Nurse Practitioner can check you out. It's a better solution than getting stressed out over not able to communicate with the doctor's office. Fact: I am shocked, surprised, and irritated that this office couldn't pull it together. I am positive that people, like me, will have to leave, and that's sad. Recommendations: Get an office manager that can get you organized, and if you have to let some of your staff go.....then so be it! I hope you read your YELP ratings and get your stuff together! Do not call as you will not be able to get through, I have been trying to get to someone who deals with the insurance as a mistake was made and it is impossible. This office is unbelievable . Dr. Shelton is an incredible guy. He was extremely knowledgeable about my problem and was quick to help my recovery. These other people are more than likely pissed off when they forget one French fry out of an order and complain about that as well. I wish I didn't have to select any stars because I don't feel this Dr. deserves even one! I went to see Dr. Shelton by the recommendation of a friend. I called for an appointment and the office was 6 WEEKS out for a new patient visit. It was December 2012 when I first saw him. The staff was rude and very impersonal but I after the wait to even get in, and the 90 minute drive, I decided to stay. I had to pay my copay upfront, which I find very strange. When I went through my history with the nurse, she was extremely rude and had me in tears before the Dr. even came in. By the end of my visit, Dr. Shelton ordered lab work and gave me samples of Cymbalta, and a prescription for VALIUM! I have never taken any prescription medicine and later found out what a horrible drug Cymbalta is. Because of the new year, I waited 10 days after my appt. to call for lab results. I left my number and said the Dr. would call once he reviewed the results. I called back a week later, and left my number again. After about a month of calling every few days I began to call daily, and still no one ever got back to me. I also needed to get a prescription for the Cymbalta since you cannot cold turkey off this drug. It took 2 weeks before they finally called it in and when they did it was the wrong dose! It is near impossible to contact this office and they are always rude on the phone. I attempted to schedule a follow-up apt (which their 'first available' was 4 weeks out) The morning of my apt, they called and cancelled- I had to take a vacation day to see him! Well, fast forward to April... I went to see a new doc and requested a medical release f my lab results, as I still did not know any what came back. Well, they never sent them over and it took another 2 MONTHS of my insurance company trying to contact them-they never got through either. When my Dr called for me, she was treated rudely and even she was appalled by the etiquette. Well, now it is almost July and they finally got the results. Everything tested was highly ABNORMAL!! Dr. Shelton should be ashamed to call himself a dr. Due to his negligence, I have now lost 6 months of being treated, and not to mention, the horrible experience of taking Cymbalta without a doctors follow-up, and the awful experience of withdrawals from this horrible drug.!!! The one star is for the CRAPPY Customer service of the front desk. Dr. Shelton is great, truly, he is very knowledgeable and friendly. However, with front office staff like his it sure steers business elsewhere. Still have not had my calls returned despite calling 4 days in a row now. I have even called from alternate phones, still nothing. The woman at the front desk always is in a grumpy mood, always. She is snappy and does not take time to confirm or answer any asked questions when she actually does answer the phone. My husband even complained to me that last time he was in. I had the same customer service problem as the lady above. My mother had a bladder infection...those can go to a kidney infection quickly without treatment. Her appt was scheduled for about 10 days out! She TOLD them that she had a bladder infection. They don't care. Then they were VERY rude in the office. When I asked them about scheduling her so far out even thought they knew she had this issue, the rude woman up front said "well you can always take her to an urgent care facility...she said she had that and also other issues".....YES...she had multiple problems and needed to be seen ASAP! They would have known if they would have bothered to give a crap. My mother LOVES Dr. Shelton, but hates the office staff. She said she always has this trouble. read more
