I've been getting massages for 15+ years. He dug so deep that he hit places I didn't even know were in pain. It was delightfully and surprisingly uncomfortable in the best way possible. He asked if I was okay and if I needed less pressure, but I told him to keep doing his thing. I walked in with a body that felt 10 years older than it is and left with a body that felt like it was 20 years younger. He released so much tension I actually hugged him. For me, a recipe for a quasi-perfect day in Marin is lunching well (myriad options in any city), hiking until the lactic acid is fully set in, and then coming to Shibui for shower and a hot soak. This is peace on Earth. Small and almost a bit hidden, I came for the first time months before heading over to Japan (sentos there are a public affair... if I were to omit the "l" in that p word, it would also be that too), so this private world of extremely hot soaking is wonderful. The hour flies by, I tell you. Shower and rinse off first. A must. bring self and cover-up or robe or towel to preassigned tub (only 3) and then enjoy... truly lose oneself in solopsism if only for 60 minutes. It's a great hour! PS Spot 3 had a shower to its side; alas, it didn't even turn on when me and my birthday suit tried to cool off!

Before our session, Jasmine asked me if I would like medium or firm pressure and if there were any spots I'd like to focus on. I asked for medium because I was pretty tender and my upper and lower back needed some attention. There wasn't a single time I needed her to use more or less pressure it was like she knew exactly what my body needed and even found areas I didn't know needed more attention and addressed them. There was a moment the traditional peaceful music you expect at spas ended up turning off and instead of feeling the need to impulsively step away to go fix it, she was focused on my shoulders and it was clear she was very attentive to my care. As someone who was having a significant pain flare from a chronic pain disorder, as well as being bed bound from surgery and just returning back to work causing my entire body to be in severe pain, I am shocked at how I never had to grit my teeth and how calm my body felt after. I'm writing this having just coming home and the warm, peaceful feeling from my nerves is something I never experience having a medical condition that fires them off.
