This was certainly a new experience for me (ahh, the joys of turning 40!). The pain in my lower back was so excruciating, I could barely get out of bed and walk. I would walk a few feet and then out of nowhere I would get a sudden jolt of pain. I felt like someone was sticking needles in a voodoo doll of me. Thank God for Dr. Lundbaek. He came highly recommended to me by my mom (which is high praise indeed), my Godmother, and a few tennis friends. I called his office up on Friday morning, and they got me in for an appointment just a few hours later. This was my first time visiting a chiropractor, so I didn't really know what to expect. For some reason, I was anticipating some sort of hippy dippy experience full of chakra-talk, crystals, and patchouli oil. Well, I couldn't have been more way off. Dr. Lundbaek was very down-to-earth, professional, and got straight to business. He quickly assessed my situation (2 out-of-whack vertebrae), and immediately went to work to help my poor, aching back. I'll admit, I didn't feel all that better after the first visit. But I came back again 2 days later for more adjustment. And after my 3rd visit the following day, I actually felt like a human being again. I saved myself from surgery!…read more The journey to fix my shoulder began many years ago after I discovered that I had RSI (repetitive stress injury) after simply using a computer mouse incorrectly and often. My doctor was quick to say that surgery was the best option. RSI turned into calcific tendinitis and the only way to get to that area was to cut through my perfectly healthy rotator cuff. I was desperate to not have to take that drastic route and was seeking alternative treatments. I first tried lavage which was incredibly painful but I was told it was the MOST invasive treatment I could do before surgery so I started there. It hurt like no other and I cried all the way home! It didn't help and I was in a lot of pain. My fingers could go numb each night and I would wake up in horrible pain with the inability to lift my right arm. I needed relief so I tried a cortisone shot. It offered temporary relief but wore off about 6 months later in which I tried it again. I tried different lotions and went through several different types of pillows... all promising what I inevitably wasn't going to get. It was then that my doctor sat me down and said that the only option for me was surgery and I was scheduled June 21, 2022. I was in denial that there was no other option. My pain was extreme and I stopped moving it much at all and relying on my left hand for most things. I was freezing up my arm and going down a dark hole... but I was determined to not have surgery and adamant there had to be SOME way to flick this little calcium deposit off my shoulder... which started my research to alternative methods. This brought me to Marin Spine and Sports in Corte Madera in April 2022 where I began focused shockwave therapy. To say it has been miraculous is an understatement. I adore Dr. Sharon and her commitment to helping heal ailments. What is focused shockwave? It is a device that sends shockwaves to the injury stimulating blood flow and growth of new tissue. It has been FDA approved for a few years now in the states but has been used overseas for a couple decades now! It has just taken us longer to catch on how great this device is and how many areas it can help people. Recently I asked my doctor for a followup X-ray to see how the treatment was working. I just knew my shoulder was better. It felt better (it did take about 15 sessions though which was a longer treatment plan likely due to the length of time I have had injury) and the X-ray showed that it was better! My doctor was impressed and said that my calcium deposit was much smaller and he felt my body should continue to absorb it over time and wants do another follow up X-ray in 6 months to check. I am so thankful for stumbling upon this facility and technique. Dr. Sharon is a trainer for the focused shockwave and I feel so lucky to have her in my "backyard" as several of her patients travel hours to see her for treatment. The list of ailments she treats is impressive and I encourage everyone to seek her out! She is a chiropractic physician by nature but her time is completely filled with shockwave therapy because the need is that great. I believe so strongly in this treatment that I would love to see other medical (including sport medicine) professionals invest their time into learning about it. I have even said that I would literally be willing to invest in these machines because they have helped me that much. We are beginning to see local offices used radial shockwave therapy by the "magic" happens with the focused shockwave and EMTT. I tried several chiropractors when I lived in southern Marin and another few when I moved to Novato, but none of them spent more than five minutes on me, and they all expected me to come in several times a week. Dr. Lee spends a full 30 minutes working on my back (some insurance plans only cover 15 minutes, but I am lucky with mine) and does everything from a massage gun to TENS machine to hands on massages and adjustments. He listens to where I truly need help and makes adjustments based on what did or didn't work in previous sessions. I am feeling so much better since I started going here and I plan to be a long-term patient! The office is clean and inviting, and scheduling is easy (via call, text, or online).
