I can't say enough wonderful things about Ryan. My husband and I tried to get pregnant for over a year with no luck. Test results came back normal. We were waiting to see a fertility specialist when I gave this a shot. A month later I got pregnant. Sadly, that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, however, we conceived again immediately. We now have a beautiful and healthy almost 3 year old and a 4 month old. I don't know what acupuncture had to do with it...or if it had anything to do with it...or it was a mere coincidence. I will say...the entire experience with Ryan was wonderful. I had fried acupuncture in the past, however, I was just not convinced. A year before finding Ryan, I had tried another place. Not only did they charge 2-3x the amount Ryan did, the acupuncturist was not helpful, warm, or inviting. I felt dismissed and she couldn't answer many of my questions. I saw this acupuncturist while on a visit to California for unusual fatigue related, I think, to jet lag. I had never experienced acupuncture before and am actually squeamish about needles, but it had been recommended to me so I gave it a try. Acupuncturist was great; didn't hurt at all (they do a little tapping thing near where they put the needles and you don't feel a thing). The effect on my fatigue was immediate, I actually got almost a buzz from it, and no more fatigue. I was very interested in the theory behind acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, very different from the Western medical outlook, and he took the time to explain some of that to me too. I went again for some abdominal bloating and pain related to gas, I think, and again the effect was immediate, about 20 minutes. This is amazing to me cause where he put the needles in was in my shin! Crazy stuff but it works and I would not hesitate to go again. I've heard from many others that acupuncture makes you almost sleepy; in fact, some people fall asleep during treatment, but I always find that I am completely energized by it--go figure. I've done acupuncture in the past, previously with a wonderful lady in SF who helped me conceive. It was very expensive but incredibly beneficial to me. Fast forward a couple of years and I'm looking to start acupuncture again, but this time without the huge price tag (it's not covered by my insurance). So I decided to give a community acupuncture group a go - and I'm glad I did! Ryan is softly spoken, quiet and calm, but friendly and reassuring. His office/practice area is tranquil and relaxing, but easy to get to with plenty of parking. The community aspect of it didn't bother me one bit as it's all done very nicely, and everyone plays along. If I were to be really picky I'd say the traffic noise was a little disappointing, but hopefully my next appointment with be at a quieter time of day. I used to be such an acupuncture snob. I went to one place for acupuncture because they were the only ones that could fix my sports injuries. Well I was wrong. Ryan at Marinwood Community Acupuncture is legit. I am a competitive triathlete who trains an insane amount of hours per week which of course leads to muscular issues. I also will admit that when a niggle here or there pops up I usually ignore it until I am freaking out that I have a full blown injury and will never be able to workout again. I did not know what to expect as I went to Ryan for a treatment, never having tried acupuncture before. It seemed weird that putting needles in my skin would make any difference for my bum shoulder, but at this point I was willing to try anything. Ryan proved to be very professional and extremely knowledgeable as he presented himself and started the treatment. Since I never tried acupuncture before I was a bit nervous at first, but Ryan was very reassuring and made my visit with him very enjoyable. Last year, I closed a business that was causing extreme stress in my life. I had developed frozen should syndrome and had days that I couldn't take my own clothes off due to the pain. In addition, I had been trying to get pregnant for the 2nd time for almost a year. I knew that stress was causing my ailments and infertility and I decided to give acupuncture a try. On a friend's recommendation, I went to see Ryan for the first time last April. He was kind and professional and I instantly put my trust in his healing hands. My treatments were so relaxing that I would fall into the deepest sleep during my 50 min sessions. From the first session, I felt my body going through changes. At first there were adjustments in mood and body temperature and Ryan explained that this was a shift in my Chi and hormone levels...and totally normal. Then I noticed my menstrual cycle completely change. It had returned to the symptoms of my younger years indicating a positive adjustment in my progesterone. I was committed to my healing and his sliding scale allow me to see him weekly. After all, I did just put myself out of work. Within the first month, my shoulders had improved 80% and I knew I was on the road to recovery. The real success story was that in June I found out I was pregnant! I continued to see Ryan through my first trimester on a weekly basis to help me through those crucial first months. Rarely do I yelp, as the service/experience must really be out of this world to get me to sit down at my computer... and this is one of those times. Here's my story... I was well past 41 weeks pregnant with my second child and looking for help with naturally moving my labor forward. On Wednesday morning I was scheduled for a medical induction for the following Sunday, exactly what i didn't want to do. I found Ryan by referral from a friend who had worked with him about a year ago. Having never done acupuncture before, I was a bit nervous but at this point, willing to go for it. I was able to set up an appointment that evening. As I mentioned, I was nervous about acupuncture and really had no idea what to expect. Ryan is an absolute professional, plus compassionate and put me at ease as soon as I arrived. The atmosphere is calming and welcoming and after an informative (and reassuring) intake interview, we got started. I have NEVER felt so relaxed in all my life! I'm now a firm believer in acupuncture! I worked with Ryan twice more over the next couple of days and voila, by Sunday afternoon, my labor had started on it's own - no induction necessary. Ryan has a very calm and supportive demeanor, and his business was a pleasure to visit.
