This rec center is an absolute beast. As someone who loves to work out at recreation centers and has been to many throughout her life, this one takes the cake as one of the cleanest, most modern, and largest. It has an indoor fitness pool, an outdoor pool (looks like mostly designed for families with kids), an ice skating rink, a huge weight lifting and cardio machine area, multiple group fitness rooms, and a full-sized basketball court (that they use temporary drapes to turn into multiple courts for pickelball or pick-up basketball). There's probably more I'm missing. I've never actually walked through the entire place. They have a ton of community and fitness programming for the area. From 8 to noon then 4 to 9 most evenings, they have different fitness classes going on. They aren't just your basics either. They have enough TRX bands to support TRX classes or some of their strength-based classes use workout areas they've had installed. They have lots of spinning bikes and classes the support them. I've never actually encountered any machine or part of the fitness center that didn't work. Everything is well-maintained, and I've never even encountered an empty cleaning spray bottle before. The biggest "issue" I've had is when the water tastes a bit off because the red-light says the filter needs to be replaced on the water fountain. Prices aren't cheap, but they aren't expensive either. When a yoga class elsewhere will cost me $40, it's only $11 here at Kettering. If you get one of their multi-class passes or a membership, it's even cheaper on a per-class basis. They have lots of kids camps and kids activities including some homeschooling group play classes and more. I haven't paid much attention to the kid things, but I know they have some! Great spread of bodies and ages here too. You'll mostly see older adults, and it's really refreshing to see a ton of different types of people instead of the college-aged adults. Everyone here is super friendly, and it's clear a lot of the community uses this place as a great place to see and hang out with friends while staying active. Huge parking lot, but if there's a lot going on (like a kid's hockey meet), there have been a few times I've been unable to find a single parking spot in this beast of a parking lot. I love the Kettering Rec Center! That place made my whole childhood and early teenage life THE place to be kids. I feel it allows kids to try something/sport they may want to pursue as a lifelong dream but wouldn't know where to start. Basketball, Running, swimming, pickleball, volleyball, ice skating, ice hockey, and a lot more but I'm sure I've forgot. Just such a great place for the whole family to go. Our family loves the Kettering Recreation Center. This is the gym both my husband and I attend almost daily. They have a large workout facility with all the equipment you could need to get whatever workout you choose. Additionally, they offer a variety of fitness classes. Ice personally attended Zumba, weight training, and TRX and found all of the classes wonderful. They have a large ice skating rink where we've taught our daughter to ice skate. They have open skate times every week--this is a great indoor activity for our family. My husband and daughter have also taken swim lessons here as well. Finally, they offer many events throughout the year. We attended the flashlight Easter egg hunt as well and had such a great time! This is a wonderful fixture for our community and I cannot say enough positive about it. read more

My friends and I have played in the adult volleyball league on Wednesday nights at the Kettering Rec Center for two years now. We love playing here because while we have all played volleyball before, we are by no means pros. We are out there to get active and have fun. We like that it is competitive, but it does not get out of control. The referees are always very friendly and knowledgeable about the rules of the game. They also do a great job of keeping everybody calm and we have never had anybody get out of control during this league. I know there is so many things to do at the rec center and I always see people using the hanging track, weight lifting equipment, and taking the fitness classes. I have been to multiple hockey games there and the ice rink is very well kept. I know my friends and I will continue to play in the volleyball league and will consider trying more of what they have to offer! read more

An update of the facility since it is now essentially completely renovated and all parts are open. All of the equipment in the Fitness area is now installed and operational. It is great using the Cardio Equipment while looking over the pool complex. Lots to see if you don't want to use the attached TV's. The indoor section of the pool is also now open and the retractable sections of the roof are cool. The original plan to have the entire roof slide open was replaced by having a series of retractable panels that slide down about half the way of the roof, sort of like sliding skylights. The hot tub has had some teething problems but now seems to be working fine. Much larger than the previous unit and more open. Lockers are plentiful with both a set near the Fitness area and another whole set in the old pool locker room. They did replace all of the old lockers in the pool room with new units. Both sets have three sizes of lockers so make sure you get the size you want when checking in. There are now spinning classes and something called TRX which has you hanging from straps attached to the ceiling with your feet on the ground while you sway around. The Kettering Rec is the most comprehensive and most affordable recreation center in the Miami Valley. This is great, but it also means that you'll be fighting for elbow room with the old folk on the indoor track or in the pool. (They know a good deal when they see one.) Fortunately, the seniors' old bones stay away from the ice skating rink. In 1990 the Rec opened Dayton's first water park. Its three acres of water and sand was dreamy to a 10 year old, like myself. There are two decently long water slides, a very large mickey-mouse shaped pool (0-4 ft deep), and lots of sand-play areas. The most entertainment might be offered by the super-soaker waterfall, which takes off bathing suits very very often. In 2005, Rob Dyrdek, a Daytonian-Skateboarder dude and founder of Alien Workshop, decided to build a skate plaza next to the Rec. I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner! Yesterday I took my girls to the Rec center for $8ish a kiddo. Non- resident! They had such a great time! They have a water park outside that is the perfect size, and an indoor pool with diving boards. Outstanding if you are a swimmer at any level:) You can't beat the value of the Rec center. Although I don't live in Kettering anymore, I will be using the Rec center for all our activities this year. If you compare Kettering with other comparable membership centers, Kettering blows everyone out of the water! Kettering Rec is by far the best facility, best value, best aesthetics, best staff, best pools, and programming. I have always been a huge Kettering fan, even though I now live in Bellbrook. This gym location has become a classic example of a self serving municipal run operation. As a customer and having witnessed changes first hand over so many years I have witnessed several attempts to solicit members for ideas rather that simply improving the current customer care through quality control and product delivery (Leadership). Another failing metric is over all gym experience. The fact is that this is a architecturally designed gym area with selected materials that improve sound transmission by magnifying efficiency. It's purpose is to cover the banging noise of steel weights at 0530 a.m. and other enlarged bodily grunts and noises. Yet, there have been extended periods without overhead music throughout the year all the while there are three operation TVs with their sound turned off. By comparison, there is no predictive equipment maintenance. Simply put; broken equipment remains "completely unsafe" before actual repairs are made. That includes the ventilation, drinking water fountain and purifier. Furthermore, the current gym equipment and foot traffic lay out is dated, this is the same lay out from years ago yet the density of users at prime user times throughout the day has steadily increased. 2024 has also ushered in increased costs without any evidence of future plans of added value during busy times that includes traffic congestion during open hours. read more

This review is for the water park. I really like the water park. It's always fun to go and relax in the water. I would of gave it 4 or 5 stars but there are a few things I dislike. 1) the parks over all size is too small for how many people pack in there on hot afternoons. 2) There is never any chairs for you to sit in. I think I counted 20 lounge chairs around the big wading pool. 3) Kettering spent a lot of money several years ago for improvements and they did a nice job. But they should of put in a lazy river. That would of been super awesome. If you go you will enjoy yourself. But if you want a better water park experience I would take the time to drive the 20 minutes to Huber Heights and visit their water park. It's a bigger place, better slides, more lounge chairs, and they have a lazy river. read more

I'm reviewing this simply based on the water park. This is definitely a treasure of Kettering, one that you would never guess would be there. If you are a resident of Kettering you would be crazy not to have a membership here! Based just on the water park alone. I know they also have a skate rink and a gym inside as well. It's pretty fantastic was the Rec has done with their water park, they recently renovated it to make it even more awesome too. You seriously can't beat the prices...even for non Kettering residents it pretty cheap. I don't know the prices off the top of my head..I just remember that I thought it was cheap. And I am kind of a cheapskate, so that says something. read more

Gym is good, but pool is not worth it. There's almost no time available for lap swimming and the sauna is closed majority of the day

A little pricier but the kids loved it! The weather was uncooperative at first, so we swam in the pool inside. We loved the kiddie pool outside. It was shallow enough for our 3 and 1 year old to play freely (we stayed right next to them of course). We didn't do the bigger kid area as much because it was so cold, but the kids had a great time. Bring your own life jackets for the little ones. read more

This is a great recreation center. I purchased the pass that included the pool, fitness center, fitness classes, and ice rink. Everything is kept very clean. I wish Kettering College offered a discount for students to get a pass here. I know Kettering Medical Center employees get 15% off. Maybe one day! read more

Visited the Kettering Rec for the first time this past weekend, and had a pretty good time considering it's been quite a while since I've been to a public pool (I'm only commenting on the water park/pool portion). It's clean, lots of lifeguards (although a few looked a little on the young side) - definitely a good way to spend a few hours on a hot sunny day when there isn't a whole lot going on. The only drawback was there there are a TON of kids around, and it was pretty crowded, but still fun. The water slides aren't totally crazy, but fun nonetheless. The concession stand is pretty typical, but they're not taking anyone's first born as payment either - prices are reasonable. $7.00 to get in for non-residents, so not hateful for a few hours. Membership a must have if you've got rugrats, they all seemed to be having a blast. read more

I can't say enough good things about this recreation center. We have gone there to swim at the pool and skate at the ice rink. Everything is squeaky clean and the staff are so friendly. They have a food counter where they sell concessions. My children really like the hot chocolate and pretzels, and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend it. read more

I am writing about the waterpark as I've never been inside the actual rec center. The waterpark is definitely a hidden gem that most people do not know about. If you are not a Kettering residence (like me) then you will have to pay to get in, but for what the waterpark offers its a steal. They have tons of lifeguards on duty, but a few looked quite young. I am sure they know how to do their job or they wouldn't be allowed to be a lifeguard. Anyways there are three pools (from what I remember) including a small once for little kids. We spent most of the time in that pool as our daughter was only about 8.5 months when we went. It was a cool little area and all the other kids/parents were respectful. The water wasn't very deep and my little one could sit in it just fine. They two slides for the kids. They looked like the little ones had fun with them. Our daughter was too young to do those and there was no way for me to help her down them so we just skipped that part. Overall a really cool waterpark that I will definitely be trying next summer. read more

I joined because I couldn't find a good gym. Well I found one! I have access to an awesome fitness center, pool, whirlpool and sauna, as well as drop-in exercise classes! I love it! The locker rooms are so nice, always clean and bright and they don't have that weird locker room smell that I've experienced in other gyms. I love it! Kettering Rec is awesome! read more

I'm really surprised that there haven't been more reviews of the Kettering Rec Center, this place is great! We've enjoyed the "rec" for quite a few years now but with all of the recent upgrades and improvements, they're even better than ever! The pool area was very well thought out and has something for everyone from small children to adults. I'm glad they did away with the sand play area, that was a mess! the splash pad that now stands in the same place is great for the kids and not a sandy disaster. More seating and concrete was a very welcome addition, they really did a great job overall! I've recently started working out here also, I'm happy to have ditched my Urban Active membership and love it at the "rec" so far. New cardio machines, very clean throughout, great indoor track, and tons of classes including TRX suspension training (which kicked my butt!). This is one of the real benefits to living and working in Kettering, be sure to check them out! read more

My family has been attending many activities over the years and have always been pleased with all aspects of the programs. This past summer I had a child enrolled in a program at the Rosewood Arts Centre and was certainly displeased. My child wanted to quit due to being bored. The program promised painting, drawing and sculpting. If you consider photocopied coloring pages on that list a good option, I didn't think that for $90 for the week this was appropriate. The sculpting clay was hard and too challenging for 6 year olds to manipulate. Have they ever heard of polymer clay? Please for the future.....a creative curriculum could have been an option. I really don't think that I would choose another program offered here. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. If you have a family or are only interested in the basic package, then this is probably an okay place for you considering the lower price. But if you are active, especially in swimming, yoga, other classes, etc - you're better off at another gym. Here's why: 1) locker rooms are AWFUL. They always smell like poop or pee, shower water temperature is crazy and doesn't flow, and you have to pay extra for locker use instead of just bringing a lock. 2) people who work there are RUDE, ARROGANT, and UNFRIENDLY. Never before have I been ridiculed for having severe back problems. So I get what is required for a refund - doctors note - and turn in all my passes. My refund was not processed when I was told it would be. Not only that, but it was reduced because they didn't go from the date I turned it in, they went from some later date. Because all these non-medical people know better than 2 MDs and a physical therapist, they don't want to refund me, although their policy says that they should. The refund would've helped me pay for some of the medical bills. 3) pool hours are nonexistent. Actually, hours overall are normally during the workday - so if you can't get away from work, you can't workout. 4) if you want to take classes that would ordinarily be free at an LA fitness or fitworks, you have to be prepared to shell out a lot of extra cash. That being said, it's a cool place for kids. Just not for adults. Kettering rec center will NEVER have my business again. I also see that most of the reviews on here are outdated read more
